There is another reason for the "default sub mindset". Many of us don't have English as the native language, so we usually either watch it in the original language or in our native language dub. Of course that the majority of their public understand English, otherwise why watch their reactions in the first place. My point is that even though most of us here understand English, not everyone would choose English to watch their shows, so it is normal to prefer the language that you are most familiar with.
And just to be clear, I'm totally fine with the English dub of FMAB. It is great without a doubt.

Most dubs of current shows and some past shows are still good, if not great, like Demon Slayer or JJK, and have gotten much better then the 90s or early 00s. I feel like anime fans just go with the auto-default of they are always bad no matter what which isnt the case. In particular for reactors with multiple people like groups, being able to hear and understand allows them to talk and react while also watching. Some of the reactors are so poor at reading and reacting they miss so much because they arent reading the subs, it can be frustrating, when they'd be much better served just watching the dub.

Anytime there's a debate between sub vs dub, it means the dub is especially good and worth watching. It usually doesn't win the polls cause anime fans (including me) have conditioned themselves to dismiss dubs cause they're usually worse. But this, and Mob Psycho 100 are amazing dubs. And my personal choice as well (along with a few others like Cowboy Bebop and Death Note).

I said this on the link but I'll say it here too: To the poll voters who insisted that the girls react to the English dub, thank you, as I otherwise would have only watched the Japanese dub. This has got to be the best voice-acted animated show period. The casting and acting goes beyond words, these characters are going to stick with me well after the show ends thanks to the quality of the VA.

Hearing about that military officer that was wrongly accused of shooting the child always makes me angry. Just imagine how horrible is to be accused of something that you didn't do, specially since he was opposing the military occupation

The priest said he wanted to create an army in one of the first episodes. That's probably why they think that's still the plan.

Also, concerning the Homunculi and them having feelings. You probably forgot, but in the episode 19 where Lust died... Roy called Lust a monster. She replied:
"That was uncalled for. I do have feelings. Apart from a few things, we were made identical to you. I am human."

You guys have brought up multiple times this idea of religious armies. But I think you're just assuming this. Back in Leore, all they did was start riots by using religion. There was no mention of any armies, as I recall.

Just a small nice thing, but it was the middle of the night when Roy went into central command and Hawkeye was standing by the car, and now it's the middle of the next day and she's still standing in the exact same spot next to the car because he promised he would come back, which was her one condition for waiting there.

even though ep 27 is mostly a recap episode id argue its one of the most essential because of how it ties the themes/messages together

Having Winry's parents (and any other doctors) pulled from the town to aid in the Ishval conflict certainly didn't help Trisha.

Ed says “You destroyed my hometown!” It made me come up with a theory. Resembool (their home town) is one of the closest places to Ishval. So of course they’d be affected by the war. Their town even has a train station!
So my theory is that the death of war and people traveling spread the disease that killed Trisha. And the Elric mother dying is also Envy’s fault.

Love to hear you guys discussing how it's not just the homonculus responsible for the crimes against Ishval. Lotta ppl pin the blame solely on the homonculi to absolve all the other characters and ppl responsible for their own actions, which is not what the anime is trying to do.
I'm also freshly rewatching for the first time since i was a kid along with you guys and i'm being drawn in by how hyped u guys get about Mustang and Hawkeye.

You are very much mistaken. In dub, sentences are often worded differently so that they run lip-sync. Also, jokes that only make sense in Japanese are reworded for dub into a joke that works in English. So that's not going to work. 😔

FYI: you could use the subs for the sub version, can't be that far off.

Back to Episode 27: Episode 27 is not a recap-only episode. If that were the case, you could skip the episode. The episode just uses a lot of earlier scenes to tell a small subplot in the manga in its own way. The episode is important for viewers to better understand characters. Skipping this episode and going straight to episode 28 would mean leaving out conflicts and thoughts from and between characters that play a big role later. Personally, I think the realization, the interpretation in the anime is even better than the one in the manga.
But I would also say that episode 27 and 28 belong together and should be watched together.
