Better Call Saul 4x05 Full Reaction

the edited reaction is gonna be up in couple of hours

I think it's both, though the thought of him saying "I built a secret room under a laundromat in the American Southwest in _____ months" is probably the greater threat, if he managed to accomplish the job at all.

Agreed with Dante. It's quite clear the first engineer was refused. "Thank you for your time" and dropping him back off at the car with a return flight ticket is clearly a no.

Gus not showing his face to the French man and showing his face to Werner is all the evidence we need to know they didn't hire the French engineer. I mean, it's pretty clear. Why would Gus call Mike to accept the first guy? He would have shown up in person like he did with Werner. You also say that Werner didn't take any measurements. He did. He was clearly pacing out the distance when he walked to the machine. He then used a tape measure to take further measurements. The point of the scene was to show Werner doing the same thing the French engineer did but by hand instead of with technology. I am 100% confident that Werner and the French engineer have no affiliation with each other. I urge you to rewatch both scenes in their entirety because it's actually very clear. The scenes aren't meant to be ambiguous or hard to interpret. Cheers.

Dante

Sorry man there’s just no way you’re correct on this. There is no way Gus wouldn’t talk to the French guy in person if they were hiring him for the job. Especially if he’s higher than Werner on the chain of command. The scene is pretty straightforward to interpret.

Dante

You're making a lot of assumptions my guy. As far as I understand the first guy is the structural engineer who can do his job remotely from Europe while Werner is the construction superintendent. That's why Werner didn't take measurements when he got there because the first guy already had.

the Forgiven

Jesus that's an incredible catch, well done Taya!

Where do you get the indication that Werner worked for him? The first man clearly didn't live up to Mike or Gus's expectations. It's very heavily implied that when Mike answers the phone and then says "Thank you for your time" Gus was on the other end saying he didn't like the guy because I'm sure he was listening from another room just like he was with Werner. That's why he showed his face to Werner because he thought he was right for the job. The first guy was also French and Werner is German. I'm positive they have no affiliation with each other.

Dante

Where do you get the indication that he was refused? I was always under the impression that Werner worked for him.

the Forgiven

Regarding the French architect vs the German architect, I had the same initial reaction. I thought they went with Werner (the German) because he was more realistic about the project and way less cocky about it. But…after seeing many reactions and reading many comments, I’m now inclined to believe the other assessment that the French guy blabbed about a prior job when Gus’ priority is complete secrecy. This is not a job where we don’t need to hear intimate details of your resume lol

Yeeees, cross cut shredding. Jimmy won't forget that now.

I had the same reaction at the beginning! I panicked and thought I'd accidentally skipped ahead and put on the wrong episode, lol. A couple interesting things: That opening scene was filmed on a film camera (like BB used), and had BB's more greenish color grading, and shaky cam style. Also notice that the paper shredder is shredding the papers into little pieces as opposed to long strips! Remember during Sandpiper when Jimmy & Chuck glued the strips of paper together? Jimmy knows better than to let that happen to him!

Taya

i didnt know Gus was talking German to Werner when he introduced himself :D Difficult when everything is German ^^ so eine scheisse :D

EhrenJaeger96

Seems like he was just saying what he thought Mike wanted to hear instead of the honest truth.

Taya

This. Also I think he thought the guy was a bit too confident. The second guy all he saw was how difficult it would be, how many problems they'd face etc. First guy was all 'eh this will be easy will have it done in no time' and would likely be hit with problem after problem because he didn't anticipate the difficulties - I'd not trust him even if there weren't a 'loose lips' problem lol

lemmy101

The reason Gus refused the first engineer was because he blabbed about digging a tunnel under the border. Gus doesn't trust a man like that. The second man was also much more thorough of course.

Dante

Thanks <3
