Better Call Saul 5x06 Full Reaction

Comments

No harm in talking about it. I'm not expecting anything You can have your opinion but make sure not to let it color your perception

tom

They won't go with Mr Robot. Neither of them seem particularly keen on it on their most recent TV show rankings vid. I'm not the biggest fan of the show either so I hope they don't. There are more interesting ones to tackle.

Camzeee

Oh and bc of the thrad earlier, if they do go with Mr Robot I hope Milena can stay away from sites that display all the characters' names lol (Referencing Arcane)

tom

I think they'd get and like the themes of it too, so they'd be on board from episode 1 as soon as they hear "the plan"

tom

I hope they do Mr. Robot first, the Mr. Robot ride / experience is far too unique, it sits on another shelf all by it's self in it's own category of amazing writing - such a genius show!

Dustywood

Maybe they read the comments and decide to watch Mr. Robot before The Expanse. We can dream, right?

Slaizio

Lol I recommended it under another a post a little while ago, where were yall? Haha For real though when they have a free slot, we just need to get them to react to the pilot and they'll be hooked

tom

mr robot ftw

T0ast

WTF There are so many Mr Robot fans here! I knew I liked you all for a reason

Isaac

I'm surprised how many people are coming out to recommend Mr Robot. I'd recommend it too, even if it takes them ages to get around to it. Another one, albeit a much longer one, would be Mad Men. one of my favorites that I've been revisiting lately. that's sort of a pie in the sky though, if Mr Robot is more likely then consider the shilling begun! at least they can make sure they stay away from it and keep an open mind

tom

For how good it is, Mr. Robot is not talked about enough.

Slaizio

Glad to see so much mutual support for Mr. Robot, more people in this world need to know about it

Dustywood

I agree! Mr. Robot is a must watch.

Adam

@Pablo, I was thinking the same thing - Mr. Robot would be a great show for them to watch. Anyone that hasn't watched Mr. Robot needs to, that's a must.

Dustywood

Pablo josue Rivera Aguilera: I can hope, Mr Robot is so good. One of my faves, and certainly an underappreciated gem.

Imthecatman

The Expanse is replacing this show

Dante

Maybe they are gonna run with arcane or if they go with another show I would recommend Mr. Robot

Pablo

Does this show have a replacement yet or are you gonna chill since shingeki will be starting soon (I dont think thats replacing anything since none of your other shows are near ending?)

A brilliant breakdown of the "I can see you" of Kim here, timestamped: https://youtu.be/p_oRpkw3mg8?t=702

Dustywood

This episode was definitely a Kim episode, and we saw that with the start. I believe what we're seeing is Kim at a breaking point of deciding whom she wants to be verses what's best for her - she's having an internal conflict from the very beginning. The person she wants to be has risks, and consequences, but her desire for that world is strong - but her internal conflict is she doesn't want to be like her mother and wants to be a stable reliable person with complete security. When it came to Mr. Acker, Mr. Acker said "I can see you", and pointed out all the things that Kim is, and with the camera perspectives of Mr. Acker standing over the shots, and Kim being looked down upon - it showed Mr. Acker in a position of power and Kim was feeling "exposed" of sorts (I recommend re-watching that scene with Mr. Acker and the placements of the camera angles). This set Kim off on a cascade effect, Kim is now at a breaking point internally with her conflict of becoming whom she wants to be verses becoming a person that is strong and reliable unlike her mother. Kim decided to dip into the Underworld when it came to Mr. X specifically in the nail saloon. She loves her experiences in this world, it's whom she wants to be, but she knows that it's not best for her. She thinks what's best for her is job security, and keeping up a good image, but she's not content with that life. She brought Jimmy on board knowing that Jimmy wants to be colourful, and she enjoys rolling around in that world with Jimmy a lot. Jimmy knows whom he wants to be, Kim doesn't yet, Kim lead Jimmy along with this plan and then backtracked at the last moment which is just as equally as bad as Jimmy was for the "betrayal" effect, as she can't decide internally whom she is yet - and it's impacting those around her. We can't keep her in the innocent limelight - she's just as bad as Jimmy in some senses but Jimmy just knows who he is and that's the difference between the two. Kim is a fantastic character

Dustywood

I don't think that's what anyone is doing though. No one is against the plan- I've rarely seen anyone say that Jimmy did a bad thing in getting Acker to stay in his house and Olivia compensation for her photo. Those are fantastic things. The issue is clearly with going against Kim's wishes to end it. It doesn't matter than Kim was the mastermind initially.

Shadoe Price

It's true in Kim's nature that we overlook often, Kim will consistently lead those around her into a direction and at the very final point she will either change and halt what she's doing or completely change directions. I think this is the writers way of displaying someone in an internal conflict of whom she wants to be verses whom she actually is. She's constantly battling between what she wants verses what's best for her, and when she gets comfortable leading up to a decision, then she will switch back in the opposite direction. An example is this episode, she brings Jimmy on board with Acker, hires Mr. X with Jimmy, and fully dips into the underworld and she absolutely loves that experience, but she doesn't want to go completely into the underworld - she just wants tastes of it. However, the thing that we've learned from Breaking Bad is that once you dip into the underworld, there's no coming back - Mike and Walt are prime examples of this. Jimmy's willing to fall further and further into the Underworld as he understands the game, Kim is still undecided in her mental state of wherever or not she wants to pursue with her life of risking everything in order to get what she wants (an enjoyable life), or what's best for her or anyone and that's job security. Love Kim's character arc so much, such a genius character.

Dustywood

Interesting.

Michael Kang-Beats

I honestly think we as an audience unfairly judge Jimmy in this episode a lot, and paint Kim in an innocent light. It's easy to forget that Kim put Jimmy up to this task knowing full well of what would follow, she went along with every step of the plan along the way until the very end - including hiring "Mr. X". We've seen this same pattern with Kim a few times, she will initiate a direction and at the very last step - wants to backstep and in turn creates this image that Jimmy is the "bad guy" as he's gone all the way through with the plan and is about to complete it's master piece and Kim wants to halt it. Kim isn't innocent at all in these matters, but it's easy to see her in that innocent light - but she's just as bad as Jimmy in many cases but she's afraid to take that final step whereas Jimmy has already taken that step. I'm pretty much on board with all of Jimmy's choices in this episode, but we can't have that bias perspective of innocent Kim and unfairly paint Jimmy as the bad guy. Both of them had merit in their perspectives, but Kim was the one that derailed the plan at the end causing the fireworks to go off.

Dustywood

As Jesse would say, “Whatever you think Kim’s gonna do, I’m telling you, the exact, reverse, opposite of that is gonna happen!”

ML

The end scene was such a tour de force and the last line was such a mind F*** that I’m so sad we won’t get the after show talk until tomorrow! Lol

Julian San

I love the detail of the next episode's intro bleeding into the current one in season 5. Can't wait to see what they do with the final season.

Shadoe Price

Here is a 14 second video of how the intro degrades over the seasons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bmn8D0lDEY

Slaizio

I’ve been waiting for her reaction to this scene ever since she said she wanted them to get married. It was perfect.

Eric Wall

I loved the reaction to the end :D

Slaizio

also it always gets to me the way Jimmy cries "God, no!" during their argument. Breaks my heart!!

Taya

I absolutely loved that 'twist' at the end. I was so devastated at the thought of them breaking up and then BAM! The exact opposite happened. In classic Kim fashion, haha. You never can guess what she's gonna do. She's a wildcard, yet her actions always make sense for her character (puzzling at first sometimes, but upon deeper analysis it's all in line with her personality). I'm so excited for the discussion!!!

Taya

Well you wanted them to get married, there you go, you got your wish! 😂

BNJ

It's definitely "when Mom and Dad fight" vibes, for sure. I feel them too

Isaac

Also Milena's reaction whenever Jimmy and Kim are fighting is just the best.

Shadoe Price

Can't wait to hear the discussion! Three of my favorite episodes of this series are in the back half of this season and this is definitely one of them. Rhea's performance in that last scene is just outstanding and the meeting with Mesa Verde is one of the most tense scenes of the whole series, I'd even put it above the pill swap scene.

Shadoe Price

Happy new year you guys! All the best wishes for 2022!

Revan

Happy new year!!

Mati D.
