So I watched the episode and the OP ... I think it's OK to watch the OP (and the ED as well). It doesn't seem very spoilery. Maybe there's one or two shots that's spoilery but this is the final season so I really don't think it matters anymore as you'll reach the end very soon anyway.

I watched the intro twice to be sure, so I hope I didn't miss something important (I'll admit I don't watch/analyze this show as closely as LM). Are there spoilers? Technically, yes. So if they don't want anything confirmed, definitely don't watch, because the intro does indeed confirm some of their suspicions. But realistically, there's nothing shown that would come as a surprise in the slightest for them at this point. So either way is probably fine.

Every opening does not contain major spoilers. Last opening “My War” was a perfect example of that. The lyrics and name of the song literally spoil major plot points. How does that “mean nothing”? Yeah I've read the Manga and while the opening is totally lit it absolutely gives some major plot details away. There's stuff you probably wouldn't understand until you actually see it, but there's also stuff that's extremely obvious - That said it probably won't lessen your enjoyment of the show.

I think you should decide yourself, as you WILL get spoiled if you watch it and have to be on board with that.

The Japanese culture has no problem with spoilers. They even like them. A lot of anime will straight up reveal what happens in an episode before the episode airs. The fact that everyone has already said the opening contains spoilers means you will know you're being spoiled if you watch it. It comes down with are you OK being spoiled now or would you rather see it happen in the episodes.

Don't be specific about what it shows. Also I disagree that it spoils that. If we're doing a basic calculation of enjoyment with watching the OP versus without (Assuming that the goal is to have maximum enjoyment, and being spoiled removes enjoyment) I think watching it will increase enjoyment. It might confirm some of their thoughts/theories but once you get past that it will be really fun for them to look forward to

A Passione you are wrong. This opening spoils more things than the s3 part2 one. And skipping an opening is another way to watch a series, specially if you do not want your theories and hypothesis, being worked for 2 years and both being destroyed by a 1 min opening. And LM does blind reactions and makes theories. The flavour of rewatching aot will not be the same.

I will also mention that a lot of the “spoilers” in the op won’t mean much to someone who hasn’t read the manga, or were just obvious plot points anyways. It's not one creator, but also even as someone who thinks they can watch it I don't think this is a good argument. It's an adaptation of a manga, and sometimes they take it too far. So technically no it's not what the original creator intended, it's what people who are adapting it in a more mainstream medium intended

It’s not a spoiler. It’s part of the anime. It’s a part of what they’re reacting to, what we want to see! The vast majority of people crying spoiler are manga readers, but they have 1,000,000x more context and can connect every last dot. That’s impossible for an anime only, regardless of how cunning they are. Worth the watch. Not only that, but by this point most of the plot has already been revealed. There aren’t many secrets left to figure out, and honestly anything in the intro will be of 0% surprise to them, but will be an awesome reaction. It’s time to just sit back and enjoy and react to the anime as intended.

Noctys you keep repeating this without proof. It’s been shown in practice this is not the case, as the source material for what would be Season 4 was already released when Season 2 was barely airing. This allowed the producers to do better foreshadowing, improve the pacing, have better story telling etc. It resulted in a better more interesting “anime-only” experience, and there were people ALL the way back in Season 2 calling the intro and outro “huge” spoilers. They were misguided then, and still are now.

I’d argue that’s not true Noctys. Season 4 manga was already out when Season 2 was barely being released. The only thing they did was improve the anime based off of knowing what happens later in the source material, adding better foreshadowing, and improving the storytelling/pacing. They didn’t suddenly spoil what would be Season 4 because the manga was already there.

I understand where you’re coming from. However, I have to disagree that it spoils the “whole” season. More so, I agree with Isaac in that everything in the intro is broad and was foreshadowed the entire show. It really only “spoils” one thing that was insanely obvious even to the most oblivious watcher, and it doesn’t even feel like a spoiler with how beautiful the intro is with the music as well. Powerful lyrics that set the tone for the series as a whole. It’s a must watch.

Have you seen their discussion at the end of season 4 episodes? There is nothing in the opening that they did not already predict during their discussions. Like during one of their discussions they were certain that the scene in 0:07 - 0:012 in the opening will happen. I really don't understand why are you so against the idea of them watching an anime opening that is meant to be watched not skipped over, when literally the only difference is that they will have an idea what's coming two/three weeks earlier than it happening during the episode. Aside from 0:07 - 0:12, the opening is mostly cool visual with two scenes that are spoilers, but they still can be easily overlooked/not understood without knowing the full context. Quite oppositely the opening will just get them hyped for what's to come rather than spoil the entire season like s3 part 2 opening did

Another thing, trailers aren’t meant to spoiler their audiences like most Attack on Titan trailers do, especially S4P1 PV. That’s just the fault of poor production decisions. Trailers are meant to hype you up and to attract an audience to the film or series, these excerpts are usually drawn from the most exciting, funny, or otherwise noteworthy parts of the show but in abbreviated form and usually WITHOUT producing spoilers. However, the Attack on Titan production team fails at that. Same goes for Opening themes. Opening themes are not meant to spoil their audiences like most Attack on Titan openings do. They’re meant to set the tone and introduce the viewers to the shows feel—let’s the audience know what they’re getting into all WITHOUT spoilers. But hey again, the production team over at Mappa fail miserably at doing just that.

Ok listen, the minute I saw the opening I said I gotta inform LM not to watch it, but on a second thought, I realized that it would be nearly impossible for you to avoid it. Remember how you figured out that they will get to the basement just from seeing the basement at the end of S3P2 opening? This is much worse than that. Wrong. That S3P1 scene was only meant to keep the hype going. If they aired S3P1 and S3P2 conservatively without breaks, then that “scene” wouldn’t even exist. It 100% matters what the creators of the show's intentions are. I'm not sure why you're calling manga readers annoying as hell- they're the only ones who call things "spoilers"- therefore you're a manga reader. The anime is NOT the manga, though it is based off of it- this has been true since the beginning of the show. Different events are shown at different times for improved pacing, and some events from the manga were entirely removed or made short and sweet. I'd argue their reactions as far as S3P1 were not ruined whatsoever. It added an awesome excitement all anime-onlies enjoyed, looking forward to figuring what transpires to get to that point- exactly as the producers intended. Telling them not to watch certain parts of the show for your reasons is like telling them to watch certain episodes in different orders because "in the manga" that's how they were ordered. It doesn't matter what's in the manga. This is the anime. Isayama and MAPPA have created an experience specifically for anime-onlies, meant to be watched front to back.

I recommend watching both the op and ed. As a manga reader I will say the op has spoilers, but they don't mean much out of context. The biggest and most obvious spoiler is one that has already been foreshadowed much earlier in the season.

In fact, the manga and the anime differ dramatically at many points in the story in terms of timing, pacing, and included/excluded scenes. Isayama has also previously stated he treats the anime as a “director’s cut”, a more “refined” version of the manga. Again, to skip based off of random people’s comments online knowledge of the manga, a different medium, is silly. The anime is meant to be watched as is. To not is to dilute the experience. If you want the manga experience, read the manga. If you want the anime experience, watch the anime.

I mean, it's an anime, it's supposed to be enjoyed WITH the opening and ending. It's not a kids' show like One Piece, the people working on the show won't outright throw spoilers on our face.

To be honest, it's spoilers because people keeps telling you it's spoilers. If you had watched them without people telling what it is, it would have just left you wondering, no context. A lot of anime openings have this aesthetic, you won't notice any spoilers when watching it the first time, but after finishing the show you rewatched them and think, "Damn, they showed that since the first episode? How could I not realize that?"

it's a fantastic intro that nails the vibe and i think it puts you in the right mindset for watching what's ahead. in my opinion fandoms go way overboard trying to overcorrect and avoid spoilers when the entire production team and staff making the series are comfortable using these intros for a reason. it does have 'spoilers' but if you dont like go frame by frame or pause and try to figure out what you're seeing i think its fine. you have more to lose from not watching the intro than you do by watching it.

i'm an anime-only who watched it and i wasn't exactly surprised at the "spoilery" things in the opening? maybe just don't dissect it? i just feel like it'd be a shame to miss out on the opening, the imagery and lyrics hit me hard. all anime-only watchers saw it so i don't see the problem with you guys seeing it too. at this point it should be a personal choice for y'all tbh.

I also find it very amusing that it's a tie after almost 800 votes. Final Season Part 2 will fortunately not be the problem, but with Final Season Part 3 (or the movie) I fear a renewed flare-up of trench warfare in the Attack on Titan fan community. The last few chapters have been so polarizing, watching it from that side could become popcorn cinema. And ultimately, the conflict that the fan community is fighting is the conflict that Isayama focuses on in his story. 😂

If I'm guessing the passing correctly after the first episode, from episode 6 on, the opening shouldn't be a problem anymore. But I must also honestly say that I am surprised how slowly Mappa tells the story. For this being an action episode, they only adapted a little more than one chapter (the missing pages from Chapter 115, Chapter 117, missing a few pages here at the end but told in the next episode, and a few pages from Chapter 118).

For me the problem are the people saying it spoil… if they just don’t say anything, anime only would not know what image a true and which are just opening only. And so people just looking at it without pausing eland looking at it like mad mens would just be hyped and don’t look to much into it and just have theories. But now with all the social media and the numbers looking at it and the huge fear of spoilers (which is understandable) ruin everything. I don’t know for this specific opening, but it’s good to know that the Mangala, Isayama, was directing the others opening/ending and even let things in it that manga reader couldn’t understand at time but later made sense. He also said that the anime was his final version, and modified some things in it. So I like to trust him and all the choices he or the one managing the IP makes.
