Better Call Saul 5x10 Full Reaction

cannot believe we've finally caught up. what a joy this show is, the quality of the writing and acting is second to none, it's on par with breaking bad for us, it just has to stick the landing and i have full faith it will. also finally everyone is in as much dark as we are about what's gonna happen so tell me some theories. hopefully the wait for the new season won't be long

ps: i wrote this and then milena said i didn't mention kim so here i am to say i love one woman: kim wexler

the edited one is gonna be up in a few hours, it’s rendering

Comments

Lola: "we watch the Expance after this and they're in space" well... there's a little surprise waiting for you in the first episode ;)

pechaos

Holy shit, @Dante - you're a genius.

Dustywood

True, but also it wouldn’t be a plot device in the Jimmy timeline (such as Kim using it)

Steven Jacob

Something to add to this - Colonia Dignidad ("Dignity Colony") was an isolated colony of Germans and Chileans established in post-WWII Chile by emigrant Nazi Germans. The colony became notorious for the internment, torture, and murder of dissidents during the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet from 1973-1985, basically a concentration camp. During this time the camp was under the leadership of German fugitive Paul Schäfer. We know from various exposition throughout the show that Gus worked in some capacity in General Pinochet's regime, and it's well documented that General Pinochet worked with Germans in the 70s. While there's no real reason for the writers to go this deep, it is possible AND would match up with the timeline that Gus may have actually been a member of Colonia Dignidad and helped run the concentration camp. What's more, if Gus was a member of Colonia Dignidad there is a good chance he wouldn't have any records in Chile due to the colony being so isolated and used for horrible things.

Dante

I don’t know how the Howard scam will play out but I believe it will lead to Kim/Jimmy splitting up. However, I don’t think they’ll completely lose contact. I think Kim will accomplish her goal of opening a pro-bono office and Jimmy will send her all the clients he gets that he considers good people and worthy of a lawyer that actually cares about them. When Jimmy tells Francesca to call a law firm and “tell them Jimmy sent you” he’s referring to Kim’s pro bono practice.

Suhhh Dude

Good link @Ourobors, what a strange connection overall

Dustywood

I don't think they need to connect the entire 4.5 years. If they conclude the storylines, show Saul getting his strip mall office, etc., I don't think there's an issue with a period of assumed "normal, everyday life" leading into Breaking Bad.

hbk314

Oh ok cool haha

Jyn Jilly

@Jyn, lolol. I promise one has nothing to do with the other. I don't know shit

Taya

This man really just said "My theories got deleted, so maybe you guys want some actual spoilers instead?" lol

Jyn Jilly

Yeah that's why I asked, I'd hate to accidentally spoil people who don't wanna know. I wish there was a spoiler tag thingie i could use.

Taya

If people want to look for those leaks they could do that on their own, I feel like posting anything here just makes it harder for people who don't want to see that stuff to not potentially get spoiled (which probably includes L&M)

Shadoe Price

Yup there's been a few. Not HUGE spoilers but definitely some....things.

Taya

Has there been some leaks? I would be keen myself, don't know about the others lol - been more than a year of waiting I'm ready!!

Dustywood

I'll repost my theories (that got deleted) later but in the meantime does anyone want to know some possible (minor, may or may not mean anything) season 6 spoilers?

Taya

@Taya Interesting, so are they trying to connect Gus to being a German national perhaps? I remember Hank suggesting they couldn't find anything on him living in Chile. Then Gus mentions to Hector that Hanks looking into his past... Though I don't see why they would go into that detail, it is very strange how connected Gus is to the Germans

Dustywood

Yeah the background music to Gus's last scene is the theme song to the show Dark!

Taya

I think there is zero chance that the show jumps to the BrBa timeline after spending 50 hours slowly crafting this story. The final season just needs to get the characters to a place where it's reasonable that they become the people that we initially meet in BrBa and then finish out Gene's story. Multiple timeskips really won't work for this show because most of the tension comes from the immediate consequences of choices and what that snowballs into.

Shadoe Price

Did I miss any other random German connections in this show?

Dustywood

Reading some comments here today has made me realize there are many connections to the Germans in this show than I firstly realized. Put aside Gus and his German employees and the miners, put aside Walter and Heisenberg (named after Werner Heisenberg, a prominent Scientist in the World War 2 / Cold War era). Werner Heisenberg the Scientist shares the same first name as Werner Ziegler. "Ice Station Zebra Associates" the tax evasion company that Saul uses, the name is based from a 1963 novel about the Cold War. Kim Wexlers name, the definition of Wexler from Google is the following "The roots of the distinguished German surname Wexler can be traced back to the state of Bavaria. The name is derived from the Low German word "Wesseler," meaning "money changer" The "Nazis" that were used in Breaking Bad as Walters (Heisenberg) hitmen for a while. Mike Ehrmantraut's last name to add onto it. Kim Wexlers character car is a German Audi. Hank Schraders brewing company name "Schraderbrau" (I can't do the accented letter) Gales signing video tape from a German song in English. Gus final scene with Hector turns out that the background music was by a German artist. That final Showdown of Gus and Hector, the song was called "Goodbye" by a German Electro Musician called Apparat. German, German, GERMAN!

Dustywood

Yeah patreon is extremely bad with auto deleting comments, especially if they're longer. I've had a few just vanish because of it. Always a bummer.

Shadoe Price

She's easily the more dangerous one out of the two as well, much more slick and subtle than Jimmy with his scams, Jimmy is all show and presentation, Kim is more sophistication and subtle. What a combo!!

Dustywood

@Dustywood as frustrating as the delays have been every time I think about the fact that because of it Bob had his heartattack on set and was able to get immediate medical attention it makes it completely worth it. Hopefully we get many many more years of that man on this planet.

Shadoe Price

I would love that so much!

Daniel

COVID, Bob having a Heart Attack, soo many delays :( Mike isn't getting any younger either lol

Dustywood

@Batayroren - your comment appears to have disappeared for me

Dustywood

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat makes sense

Dustywood

Perhaps I'm just a sick individual, I love that man

Dustywood

@Batayroren, I understand you have doubts about this theory, but if you actually look at specific scenes and the dialogue / camera shots used, you can see how this theory has come about. There's been dozens of stories over time told of con artists falling in love with their victim, again I'm not saying this is going to happen, but you cannot down outright dismiss these possibilities. Kim isn't in Breaking Bad and that's a big deal.

Dustywood

Nah, no more Tuco for me. I'll start losing brain cells if he's on screen.

This is completely random and out there, but I really hope we can see a scene with Skinny Pete and Tuco since Skinny Pete mentioned in Breaking Bad that he spent time with Tuco inside - that way we can get our Skinny Pete cameo and get another Tuco scene :3 #season6

Dustywood

Nope, just text! Hopefully it's just a glitch and it'll reappear ... I don't feel like writing all of that out again, lol.

Taya

I'm actually holding out so much for a Badger and Skinny Pete cameo. I think Walter or Jesse might be a little far fetched and can probably taint the show a bit but Badger and Skinny Pete - YES.

Dustywood

Yeah I just noticed one of my comments vanished too, Patreon issue perhaps? My comment had a URL link in it though (YouTube) - did yours?

Dustywood

Dude wtf I literally just spent the last 20 minutes writing a LONG comment and it seems to have disappeared? Whyyyyyyyy

Taya

Literally nobody I know watches this show, so I subscribed to this Patreon because it was the first time I was able to hear other people's thoughts about it as I watched. I've always thought Patreons were where creepy lonely dudes go to stalk, and while I still think that's often very true, it was fun re-watching this show with y'all. So thanks. For theories, there's a ton out there but I always come back to one thing: Jimmy goes to Omaha, Nebraska. Kim is from Nebraska. Whatever happens next season, Kim is the love of Jimmy's life. So either he goes there hoping to find her....or she's dead and living where she grew up will have special meaning. Here's to hoping for cameos from Badger, Skinny Pete, Walt, and Jesse next season. I can't believe I now like this show more than Breaking Bad. But looking back, I never really liked Walter or Skylar or their relationship. Walter caused so many innocent people to be killed, and as you always mention, he fucking killed Mike for no reason. Rewatching BB episodes just makes me hate Walter more and more. While the action/plot of Breaking Bad might be more exciting, the characters and relationships in this show are incredible and I love them all.

James A Reddick

Honestly I'm with Camzeee on this one, I made a similar comment in this thread before I saw his. Also, we notice Kim specifically always mentions "you" and "me", instead of "us", Jimmy specifically mentions "us" "we get 20% of the common fund" - the possibility of her scamming Jimmy is very possible.

Dustywood

I don't see Kim trying to screw over Jimmy, in fact I actually think she's still involved with his business during BB, we just don't see her because she's behind the scenes running things. One clue is that Saul's holding company is called "Ice Station Zebra Associates", Ice Station Zebra is one of Kim's favorite movies, if you want to look for clues there's a big one.

BNJ

Glad to see that we've both benefitted from the community!

TeaDrinker3000

@Dustywood- I was researching the surname Wexler because i have a theory about how that isn't actually her surname and when i found out the origins of the name it blew my mind.

Huffster999

The writers wanted to tell this story, they have spoken about it those Episode Discussion videos on YouTube (their series of the writers analyzing their own episodes and scripts), but unfortunately due to the passing of the Actor all they could do was give him an Easter Egg plot essentially in BCS by using film they shot of him during the filming of El Camino. They featured him in BCS as a memorabilia to his character, but in terms of his actual story - the writers definitely had the intention of diving into his story further, unfortunately he passed :(

Dustywood

@Cloudy - That's why I mentioned it's far fetching stuff, but it's still entirely possible, this show has been about cons and scams since the beginning, in every good con story is the long con, and I don't hope for this outcome at all but there are some very strong signs that's either meant to misdirect the viewer or that is the subtle second story occurring. In terms of her not caring about money, I don't think this has been displayed or told, so that is a theory in itself, from my understanding of her desire to do pro-bono work came mainly from just being simply disinterested in the work she was currently doing with the banks, she felt empty as a result - and her seeing how Jimmy was able to juggle multiple pro-bono work whilst finding methods to be successful came across quite attractive to her and she wanted back into that world. That was my take from her quitting her role with the bank, but I don't think in anyway is she not in a careless mindset when it comes to money - that hasn't been established.

Dustywood

Why would she rip Jimmy off? Kim doesn't even care about money. She quit a high paying job to do pro-bono work and help the unrepresented. She hates banks, the corporate world, and especially yuppies like Howard (clearly) and Kevin who help no one and make no meaningful difference in the world. If anything, she's probably on Jimmy's side now more than ever before.

My guess is they're gonna do a fast forward montage like they did with the Something Stupid montage. I dont know how else they'd show that much time pass in one season. But I'm always wrong with my predictions haha

Daniel

So, my biggest question about season 6 is how they will catch us up to the Breaking Bad timeline (no doubt a spectacular montage or two will be involved). This episode takes place in early June 2004, Breaking Bad's first episode takes place in September 2008, and Saul doesn't appear until December of that year. That means we're still 4.5 years away from when we meet Saul in BB. The entirety of BCS so far has spanned from May 2002 to June 2004, which means season 6 is going to span more than twice the amount of time than the entire show has up to this point. This leads me to believe there is going to be a pretty substantial time jump between parts 1 and 2. Not to mention the Gene storyline that needs wrapping up as well on top of that, the writers definitely have their plates full. I know they'll pull it off, but I am very curious about how they're going to do it. If anybody else has thoughts on this I'd love to hear!

Dante

@Huffster999 - Is that really what it means? Money changer? That's a FANTASTIC observation to make. This show has specifically included Germans in both universes too. Not to mention, Kim and Jimmy both created Ice Station Zebra Associates (the "tax purposes" mentioned in Breaking Bad by Saul many times), so it's VERY possible she becomes his money manager. @BDJ The level of intentional detail this show has, gives us the room to make theories like this and have them possibly come true, because the Show is so well written and the camera work often specifically tells a second story for the onlookers that seek the extra detail / Easter Eggs.

Dustywood

I wouldn't be so sure about that. This episode takes place in early June 2004 which is still 4 and a half years away from when Saul first appears in Breaking Bad. My biggest question about season 6 is how they are going to deal with that 4.5 years we still need to cover before BB

Dante

Mate, how frustrating is it when your IRL mates or office co-workers are Breaking Bad fans, yet they never give Better Call Saul a chance??? I legit got noone to gossip about this show with, so LM are perfect because they're very intelligent when it comes to attention to detail. My coworkers and friends are fake Breaking Bad fans :P, some of them think the BCS series are spin-offs that might ruin their image of Breaking Bad so they never gave it a chance. Frustrates the heck out of me

Dustywood

I know this is an unpopular theory, but now is a good time to bring it up again. Note, this is far fetching stuff, and highly disputed online. I don't hope for this outcome, but I do fear that Jimmy might be Kims "big whale", meaning, the long con. In this episode, she focused heavily on Jimmy's fund he will get from the Sandpiper case, and being a married couple now - this opens a possibility of Jimmy being ripped off. Kim mentioned twice in this episode "you" instead of "we", whereas Jimmy was more about "we / us" - "We get 20% of that" Jimmy corrects Kim. A few episodes earlier, the Judge stopped and mentioned that Kim had no middle name, and then Huel captures a picture of their marriage with a disposable camera (disposable marriage). We saw in that same episode as well that Kim switched out some paper in the background (which people disputed previously, but again please go re-watch that scene). I can go on and on with random little things that Kim does that can raise questions, but they can be pretty far fetched. I really hope that this isn't the case, I would hope that Kim ends up running the Ice Station Zebra Associates that she and Jimmy created before the Bar Scams, and processes all of Saul's dirty money from Breaking Bad (that's my hope), but just thought I'd throw out the other Kim angle going on.

Dustywood

We went through this once when part of the community was convinced that Kim had faked the letter from Chuck that Jimmy read. It didn't pan out then and it's not gonna pan out now. There's more than enough story and drama to be had out of what they actually set up in these final episodes, no need to take the marriage scene which was emotionally complex but still incredibly straightforward and turn it into this.

Shadoe Price

Kim Wexler officialy has gotten her breaking bad moment

Pulp

It's possible that she becomes Jimmy's money laundering expert. Wexler is derived from the Low German word "Wesseler," meaning "money changer.".

Huffster999

The BCS reactions have been my favourite out of all the reactions so far, both for the girls and for all of the patrons as well. Very few people I know IRL watch the show, and those who tried it never got past season 3 because they found it boring. So, having dealt with imposter syndrome for so long for loving this show as much as I do, I'm so so grateful to have found a community that can recognise BCS for what it is; a worthy competetitor to the mantle of quality held by Breaking Bad, and drama television in general. Finally, I've found people who understand why I'd take a bullet for Kim Fucking Wexler. I don't have any theories because until the last season airs I'm choosing to live out my head canon that Jimmy and Kim are reunited and finally say 'I love you' to each other as 'Something Stupid' plays over the credits.

TeaDrinker3000

Well to be fair, before he died the show already explicitly made it clear that Gene wasn't going to go down that route.

TeaDrinker3000

It's very rare to go into the final season of a show with zero worries about the quality but this is definitely one of those few moments. With all of the covid delays they had much more time than usual to work on outlining the season before they even began shooting, so I can't even begin to image how fantastic those scripts are going to be. Plus with Vince back in the writers room for the first time since season 3 it's gonna be magical (and probably extremely, extremely painful).

Shadoe Price

We will also find out that Gus was tracking Walt and Jessie when they were dealing with Tuco. They have already shown us that Gus is getting rival gangs meth tested by Gale. After Tuco killed No-Doze and Walt saw the black car parked near his house that drove off when he spotted it we will find out that it was Mike or Victor watching him. It would also explain how Mike was able to locate Walt for Saul so quickly.

Huffster999

I think this is one of those cases of people over analyzing the show. I could be wrong but I think there’s nothing there or any significance.

BNJ

Yep, and after that Saul sat in his car and looked sad for a few seconds! What was that all about? Obviously it wasn't planned in advance, but it fits right in with this theory.

Taya

I see two outcomes for Lalo, either he dies or he gets caught and sent to a supermax security prison where he has no contact with the outside world, like ADX Florence. There’s no other scenario where he just stays away from the events in BB. I think Nacho dies, I think that’s inevitable.

BNJ

This is the moment Kim Wexler becomes Mrs. Goodman

Taya

We had a fun spoilery discussion back in Ep7 and a few people got in on the theories. Reposting now that you're caught up! That scene where Jimmy and Kim get married at the start of episode 7 has a lot of strange incidents which suggest there's something going on they're not telling us. Kim says 'looks that way' when he says they're getting married. And then she's shown looking over the forms in a weird way in the foreground when Huell is suggesting to Jimmy they go on a honeymoon. Then when they're saying the vows, the judge says 'hmm no middle name'. That seems like an odd line to keep in unless it has some significance. Theory is that Kim has setup a scam marriage of a sort. How or why she's doing this, or even whether Jimmy is in on it or not, is yet to be seen. But that marriage scene definitely left clues that not everything is as it seems.

Camzeee

Id be shocked if they don't show how Jimmy gets the Vacuum guys number in season 6. We obviously wont see the actor, but they're brilliant. I'm sure they could figure it out without showing the character but only showing the van/store. We'd all understand exactly what going on.

Daniel

Whatever Kim and Jimmy do to Howard will be so devastating that Howard will commit suicide by hanging himself in his closet. I've based this on two things. 1: We have seen how a setback can affect his mental health after Chuck died and 2: In BB after Walt had been kicked out by Skylar Saul visits him to give him a pep talk and before he leaves says "just promise me you won't hang yourself in your closet". Now in BB that comes across as an inappropriate joke but i think the writers will give it a darker meaning.

Huffster999

THAT is how you produce a drama!

Chris Norden

If it’s in their plans, the creators of the show would definitely find some trick to have his character in the season. Idk it’s just a theory though.

brandon morse

Sadly, the gentleman who was the ‘vacuum cleaner specialist’, Robert Forster, died in 2019, so I don’t think they will be doing an ‘identity switch’ angle.. they could have a different actor help out.. but I think it’s less likely.

Steven Jacob

Yes, unfortunately Robert Forster passed away, he was an addition in the Better Call Saul series as a farewell to him of sorts, the scene of him in Better Call Saul was filmed during El Camino. He passed away on El Camino's release date.

Dustywood

"It wasnt me! It was Ignacio!! Did Lalo send you? No Lalo?....Oh thank God!!" -Saul in BB. I have a feeling the end of this episode is what Saul was talking about. So sad I dont get to look forward to these every week!! Cant wait to watch season 6 with you!! Long Live Slippin Kimmy Goodman!! And RUN NACHO!! RUN!!!

Daniel

My predictions for S6: Nacho's gonna die. I don't see any future where he escapes and lives a happy life. That was Jesse's story and the writers aren't gonna do it twice. Lalo's gonna die too. It makes no sense for him to be alive during BB and he isn't the type of person to go into hiding for years and watch as Gus kills his entire family and crumbles his empire. He's out for blood so he'll likely kill Nacho's father. Kim will go to jail. She is flying too close to the sun and whatever she's planning to do to Howard will be unforgivable and worse than anything she's done before. She might potentially destroy his life and career. Walter will appear, even for very briefly. Seeing as BCS will likely be the final end of this universe, I don't see how they could end it without an appearance of his character. Even a mention, name drop, reference, anything. Might even be just a simple phone call but regardless, he'll show up in S6 one way or another. Jimmy (in the future) will go to the police, not run anymore. Walter already had the "dying" ending and Jesse had the "escape" ending so it's befitting that Jimmy should be the one of the three to go prison. His entire life, he's done nothing but run and fight the law. Him admitting guilt and accepting consequences would be the final resolution of his character. The revelation that he won't always be the Slipping Jimmy that Chuck believed he was until the end of his life. That he too can change and turn over a new leaf.

Milena read your description and said "Poor Kim"

Jyn Jilly

The actor (Robert Forster) that played the vacuum man passed away in 2019.

Alex Hart

My theory is that Kim is going to go to the vacuum man to get disappeared. They always make a point to show us Jimmy meeting his BB associates, and they haven’t showed us him yet. The Lalo threat gets so bad that Jimmy asks the vet for a way to get Kim out. Gus will wind up killing Lallo, but Jimmy won’t ever know, because in 2x8 of BB, when Walt and Jesse hold a gun to Saul in the desert, he asks if Lalo sent them.

brandon morse

I already previously mentioned what I think will happen with Gene in a comment for the 5x01 reaction, but basically I'd argue Gene will surpass his fears (as was indicated by his renewed confidence after the phone call) and do something he has longed in the first flash forward of all in 1x01: scam the taxi driver by maybe framing him as a criminal to the police. I feel like something along those lines would contrast well with his way of living as a scared little man during the Gene timeline. Other than that, it could be anyone's guesses.
