I wouldn't call Star Wars pure fantasy, it drew on a lot of sci-fi tropes of the time without bothering to define how they worked, because it assumes the audience would be familiar with them.

You probably saw my comment on the first episode about this, but just to reiterate, The Expanse is not like BSG, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. It is Hard Sci-Fi so the technologies being used and the way space travel works are based on our current understanding of physics and some guesses about what technology might be like that far in the future. Point is, almost all of it is theoretically possible even if it doesn't exist today.

The reason why the belters have a different language is because the belters are a mix of various backgrounds. So over the years there's been a mix of different cultures and languages, and all of that merged to form a new language. It becomes understandable over time
