Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 1 Reaction

Comments

"hopefully its a happy one .. HAHaha .. "

Banned Exile

The universal uncertainty of King Bradley being good or evil. He has such a demeanor to him.

Leaf

Let's fucking goooo

Kanza

Honestly this is one of the only shows that to me didn't matter sub or dub. Both good.

Sevenpsych

Watch Demon Slayer

Joshua Brown

I far prefer FMAB over AoT, but I guess its a matter of personal taste. They are both great series which touch upon different subject matters.

Link

99% sure they are going to cry more in this show than AoT

gouj

Interesting. I watched like the first episode of FMA out of curiosity, I recognized the scene (the broken radio thing) which seemed like it was in the middle of FMA:B. I'll probably check it out sometime.

Delmoi (忍者神)

Yeah might works best with sub and dub.

Delmoi (忍者神)

just a small correction. It was not just the ending that was different, but rather the entire show that was different. Just the beginning of the story was more or less the same

Raziel_BBT

The original took its time at the beginning so the pace is better for sure (and the music is incredible). The only FMA:B flaw is that they were eager to get back to where they left things off with FMA, so they skip a few things and expedite others, so the beginning is a bit rushed. But overall, the story of FMA:B is way better than FMA.

MaxVSTheGames

FINALLYYYYY I have waited 84 years for this day. I just know you are going to love this, and the fact that you already looked like you were about to cry 5 times only confirms that lmao. Ed and Al are the definition of "baby boys", so I expect to hear that a lot. Like you're contractually obligated to say it every episode now. Also just!! Sibling bonds!!! Your favourite type of torture lmao

zaphyre

Can you turn on subtitles? Sometimes its hard to understand

David Hebertinger

Yeah definitely. It was Fine, it certainly made me want to watch it and see what happens, but also towards the end it seems like you can pretty much tell where it's going, there isn't really much suspense. I wonder if part of the reason it's so popular in the west is because it's so "western" in terms of it's setting. As far as comparing it to AoT, I read the manga to the end before watching FMAB, I there might be some influence, but the influence of Evangelion is stronger, IMO. The characters in AoT feel way more realistic, and the plot is this really complex interaction between different groups who believe what they're doing is "right," whereas in FMAB it's a much more clear-cut good vs. evil situation. It's not bad by any means, but I don't think it needs to be in the top spot on MAL (There was like a day when the current season of AoT overtook it, but since then it's dropped down a little, lol)

Delmoi (忍者神)

That the sub vs dub poll being so close is evidence that you can't really go wrong with either version. FMAB having a female creator really shines through in the strong writing of its female characters compared to most of the other really popular anime series (cough, Death Note).

Rutabagles

You guys should put sub titles on even though you have the dub going in case you can’t hear you can still catch things by reading

TomNook

I don’t mind the choice of dub, because the setting is not Japanese but fantasy/fictional. The show to me is very real and relatable and a solid story. Enjoy!

Christiaan

Yeah, I watched the 2003 version about 13 years ago right before Brotherhood started airing. I also thought it was a bit overrated even until the story diverged from the manga. Like a year ago I wanted to give this one a chance as well but I only made it to 30-40 something episodes and dropped. I actually felt like the older version did a better a job (as far as I recall, I could be proven wrong since it's been so many years) until it diverged from tha manga. I feel like this series is missing something that appeals to me, even though the concept and lore is really interesting. I don't know what it is though. AoT has this weight to it, I guess that's what this show is missing to me. Sometimes it feels too light-hearted or don't care about the characters that much. Although, I still respect the series/manga because you can't deny it really influenced AoT in a lot of ways, but overall AoT did a much better job than FMA, at least to the extent I've seen, I don't know if the story reaches unbelievable heights later on in the series since lots of people praise it.

enchantertim

Only started watching this b/c you guys were going to react. I got to like episode 48 or something. Still think it's overrated (it's like the #1 anime on Myanimelist but it's not better then AoT IMO). Also, might want to skip the intros, they definitely have spoilers. (They change them up every once in a while)

Delmoi (忍者神)

KP, stop being toxic.

Merfhew

This was a common practice in the 2000's when adapting an incomplete manga, and while I have fond memories of shows like FMA 2003, Black Butler, Blue Exorcist, Tegami Bachi, and Soul Eater (to name a few), I'm glad that most animation studios follow a seasonal model now. The anime original endings weren't ALWAYS bad, but they were usually pretty definitive. Even if the anime didn't stray far from the manga, the final episodes usually made it seem like a continuation wouldn't happen. I'm hoping for more remakes in the future.

Merfhew

Not sure if anybody has cleared it up for you at all but, Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) aired while the manga was still being written. It started off faithful to the manga for the most part but fairly quickly veered off to do it's own thing with the story separate from the manga. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) started airing as the manga was coming to a close and is accurate to the manga. You don't need to watch one to watch the other. FMAB is regarded as the better of the two but FMA (2003) has its own strengths. Hope that helps! FMAB is one of my favorite shows of all time and I'm very excited to watch these reactions!

Chris Gibson

The second episode will have you guys hooked even more

Mr Joker

I think now is the time for the annual membership

Don Julio

This is literally the greatest anime of all time! You're gonna fall in love with these characters.

Norrin Radd

in another show, he could have been my favorite character. But this show has so many good characters that is impossible to choose

Raziel_BBT

is this show gonna be every friday? or more than once a week

Sosa

Arm Strong is just this caring muscleman who picks up a little bird with broken wings and does everything he can to save it.

Robert H.

this show is gonna be the most 'my boys' show yet

Hannah N

they can't watch it fast enough. just 2 episodes a week is gonna take so long

Raziel_BBT

this show gets so much better as it goes on, love it

Sosa

"MY BOYS" intensifies

enchantertim

Armstrong and personal space don't belong together. Just accept it

Raziel_BBT

English Dub with English Sub (so that you can read while you talk and read the names of the characters as well) would probably be the best if you can. If you can't, that's okay too though

MaxVSTheGames

S TIER SHOW

Griff

I am PAINFULLY happy that this is happening. This will be an all time favorite of yours!

Griff

lol what's the point of your comment? Nobody is being hostile here but you

ML9

What’s the point of this comment? There was a poll and dub won. No one’s cares what you prefer.

KP

fmab is nearly universally beloved and often considered a classic. excited for yall to start it!

Sebastian

Def watch dub with subtitles if possible.

BoredTonberry

disagree with the japanese al sounding younger than english al. and thats my point, he's 14 not 4, you sound a lot older than that when you're 14...milena even makes note a few times on how young he sounds, like a small child. but they seem to find it endearing so oh well, to each their own

ML9

i would recommend putting in sub aswell, its hard to catch everything.

michaa

yeah if they find one that’ll be fine then

Sam

yes. Just wait until after episode 2 to listen to the song again

Raziel_BBT

Eng Dub with English subtitles should also work.

Robert H.

Dub seems like a bad idea for a reaction since you cant talk during dialogue otherwise youll miss it, have to constantly halt yourself mid sentence or rewind scenes. Unless you find a dub with subtitles i think sub would be a better idea tbh

Sam

You're so right, of course. Another completely depressing anime would have been too much somehow.

Robert H.

The song you're talking about is called Bratja and is sang by two young boys that actually represent Ed and Al. The lyrics were created for Full Metal Alchemist. And yeah, that song is so good! Made me cried more than once.

MaxVSTheGames

Well, Alphonse is 14 years old. I would find it strange if he sounded older. In Japanese, however, I think he sounds even younger.

Robert H.

The voice of King Bradley always gives me chills.

ReactorHero

I’m not saying there aren’t heavy or emotional moments. Tons of that, won’t list any to avoid spoilers. I’m more talking about coming off Attack on Titan and Death Note we have a humor-heavy show

My Toasty Toast

Well, the first four episodes and especially some of the episodes after that are pretty sad. The humour, however, which resonates all the time, makes it bearable. If you took the humour out of Avatar, for example, the genocide of the Airbenders and Zuko's traumatic childhood, as well as Sokka as a child soldier and Katara as a war child who had to grow up very early, would hit even harder in the pit of the stomach than the series already does.

Robert H.

One of the best animes of all time. You're going to love this for sure!

Javier Burillo

Ugh I hate the dub, Al sounds like he's 4 years old lol, but I'll bear with it to enjoy your girls' reactions to this amazing anime

ML9

Love that show! Can't wait for them to react to the one episode that everyone who has seen the show knows I am talking about

YatoKing

Yes, I would like that too. So Eng Dub with English subtitles. In the reaction videos it is sometimes hard to understand what the characters are saying, so you can still read it.

Robert H.

I just watched the first episode (subbed) and I loved it. I think it's a very strong opening that establishes the story well. I personally love being thrown right in and not being hit with a wall of exposition at the very beginning, I like the story making sense over time. Once the full reaction drops I'm gonna watch the dubbed episode along with it!

TeaDrinker3000

yeah, i know. I mean eng audio plus eng sub. they always do this with the other shows .

Basti

YES!! I hope you guys have the list of after credits.

Avery

there was a poll.

Subaru

So happy you've decided to start this! FMAB is one of those animes, aleast in my opinion that stays close to your heart

Leno

To explain: there is Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. The problem with Fullmetal Alchemist was that the anime adaptation started when the manga was still in its infancy. As a result, the anime caught up with the book, similar to Game of Thrones, and the makers wrote their own ending. Then, when the manga was finished, the fans demanded a new adaptation and got it with Brotherhood.

Robert H.

Can you put eng sub for the next one please u.u

Basti

Super excited for these reactions ! Concerning your questions on the 2 different adaptations of the manga, the 2003’s one was broadcasted at the same time the manga was published and catched up quite quickly with it. Because of that the show runners decided to continue the story by themselves so the 2003 adaptation is actually very different from FMAB wich is a completely faithful adaptation from the manga (but FMA is also really good in it’s own rights !). Either way can’t wait to see you too react to this amazing story !

Pkiu

I hope you watched the first two episodes in a row. After episode 1 everything still felt so thrown in. After episode 2 you had a better overview of the events.

Robert H.

Let's go!

Mario Robledo

Super excited. My #1 fav

Unholy

YESSS!!!! You girls are going to love it, can't wait for the emotional eps and the ending song (let it all out) the timing when the song drops will just be perfect

Dammy Oshikoya

HELL YEAH

Raziel_BBT

Yess!! I’m so excited, it has been years since Ive watched this show. I’m glad to be watching an anime that’s not going to make you both (and me) cry every episode Edit: I just finally watched your reaction I stand corrected about the crying

My Toasty Toast

Incredible series you will love it !!
