just as we were about to finish our review lola remembered that you told us that there’s an after credit scene in this episode, so we watched it then and i left the reaction at the end of the video

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 6 Reaction

Comments

You should watch D.Grayman! It has the same vibe and way of story telling and loveable characters as Full metal alchemist except instead of alchemists, they focus on exorcists.

the icon in the refresh button on my keyboard is starting to fade

It's never stated directly but the country of Amestris is under a military dictatorship (Not unlike Japan at the beginning of the 20th century...) It would be extremely dangerous for Dr. Marcoh to make off with the Philosopher Stone and for Armstrong not to report him.

@Cosmotron I'll try to explain my thought process, and why I think/thought it made sense. Some of that does seem to have been ignorance, unfortunately. I'm not used to physical comedy depicting violence in the animated shows that I watch, so I had to adjust my perception to fit the clear non-literal comedy, and perhaps I didn't adjust far enough, because I was still interpreting it as semi-literal. For context, this is my first time viewing, and I have not yet seen any episodes after this one. so I can't speak to any other characters' behavior, and to me this is not a "newer kind of criticism", it just is/was my assessment as a first time viewer.

Jacob

He's also the President. At some point the military seized control of the parliament, meaning being the head of the military (Führer) also meant being the head of parliament (President). So his full title is Führer President King Bradley

Michael Tennick

This series was actually written by a single female writer and she did an amazing job

Mikey

Fr, I totally understand they can’t just binge it all, but I really wanna binge all the reactions lol

WalloWing

they should just do a 20 hour long marathon and upload it all at once

Raziel_BBT

Sasha turning into a bread demon went fine :p

Alex

I think I speak for us all when we day we need 30 reactions to this per week! I am new to this show but loving it!

Michael Cannon

I remember the first time you guys watched the opening and it showed Ed losing his arm and leg, Al losing his body and then showing Winry not losing anything and you guys were confused. Now you know her when you watch that part it shows her shake and move but it’s because she lost something non physical she lost her friends that day

TomNook

Winry and Ed are the same age, one year older than Al

Hannah N

I was just about to comment this too haha definitely pls do the OVAs

riv

It would go really badly in a more down to earth style of show like Attack On Titan or Death Note but Fullmetal is so cartoony and full of animation jokes all the time that I think it's fine. It's less 'domestic abuse' and more 'Tom and Jerry antics'

Hannah N

Oh, I'd love for you guys to do the OVAs. It's true they aren't *needed* for the story, but they're all really good. And besides, you were both saying you were sad that there were only a little over sixty episodes, so the OVAs add onto that lol.

cosmotron

IDK, it's not any different than Ed beating people up for calling him short, and no one tries to make that out to be problematic or whatever. I feel like this newer kind of criticism gets aimed at Winry rather disproportionately. There are plenty of other characters in the show who engage in frequent similar acts, and no one says anything about that. Especially because that kind of physical comedy is so prevalent in anime, and while calling it metaphorical violence isn't quite accurate, it's not dissimilar to seeing Al's armor make expressions. We aren't meant to believe that his armor is literally changing, it's just an exaggerated expression of his emotions. The wrench gag is the same, and it's why any injuries inflicted immediately disappear, because Winry isn't *literally* beating anyone to a bloody pulp. And again, it's not like she's the only character that engages in that kind of thing, so unless you're gonna say Ed beating people up for calling him short *also* hasn't aged well, I really don't think your point makes sense.

cosmotron

It's so nice to see you girls laugh and smile in a reaction haha. Every other show is doom and gloom.

@Tiago: What's with the hostility man? And how are you defining PC policy? I haven't condemned any character, or the writer(s). You don't know my age, and I'm just making an observation based on what I watched. I understand that the violence is exaggerated for comedy, but I'm pointing out that it's presumably an exaggeration of *something.* I still really enjoy the story, and I like Winry too; I don't see why I can't and also critique the show.

Jacob

is this guy accusing winry of domestic violence or something???? wtf this generation with their PC policy is so fucked honestly

Tiago Santos

Some people mentioned the OVAs. Yes they are nice and everything but since they are not essential to the original main plot I think you do not need to watch them in between.

Simobn

If you know that an after-credit scene is coming, it's best to have your mouse ready. When you hear the narrator's voice or the music, just stop. Unfortunately, FMAB does not have a "to be continued" panel like Attack on Titan.

Robert H.

Of course it's a gag for comedic purposes. And it was funny. How are you defining political correctness? Something being a gag doesn't mean it must be accepted purely at face value, and no further thought ever given. The comedy in a story is an aspect of the story and how it's told, same as any other element.

Jacob

I love how it never crossed my mind when I watched originally. Y'all already teaching me shit about one of my favorite shows.

Nathan Elkin

oh for crying out loud. it's just a gag for comedic purposes, same as armstrong constantly taking his clothes off. not everything needs to be debated for political correctness's sake

ML9

I would assume that it was Ed behind that if it was intentional

Brendan O'Connor

I can accept that the violence is exaggerated, but I see no reason to think all of it was metaphorical to communicate a character's emotions, as there would be far more straightforward ways of communicating that without any ambiguity. For one, the dialogue in the scene when they first go to the Rockbell house doesn't make much sense if she didn't hit Ed with something.

Jacob

It aged just fine. Animated context is always different with some things.. Its like slapstick or physical comedy. When these things happen, obviously it's not a literal representation, but more to represent a certain emotion.

ODIS

There are 4 OVAs of Fullmetal. None of them is in a particular order and they are not essential to the plot, but they are very interesting. Fullmetal doesn't have seasons, but there are different openings. I thinks as soon as the second opening starts, you can watch all of the OVAs

Raziel_BBT

To add on to what you talk about with Bradley: Yes, his name is King Bradley and he has the title of Führer. So, he is Führer King Bradley. It confused me too when I first watched the show.

Chris Gibson

It’s so nice seeing y’all enjoy these early eps because generally they’re considered the weakest. So it only goes up from here!

s

The picture is covered because of Ed and Al. They don't want to look at him I assume.

Rinne

Speaking of things that you have to just kind of go along with for the sake of enjoying the character--Winry beating Ed senseless for damaging the armor she built. That hasn't exactly aged well. Edit: Ok, so as has been brought to my attention (a couple of times, but I suppose I wasn't quite able to wrap my head around it at first), there's good reason to think I was missing crucial context in interpreting these scenes. I don't entirely retract my statement, because I believe it made sense given the amount of information I had at the time, but in retrospect I think I spoke too hastily. My bad.

Jacob

After you watch this series you should also watch the blooper reel. It's hilarious and should be on youtube.

Ki-Young Joannes Jang

“They were happy. I was happy. I love them.”

RPSiege

It's crazy how enjoyable watching someone watch something you love is... humans be weird.
