Every character which performed human transmutation never offered anything in exchange for a soul, this is why Truth took something from them. They were trying to gain something without sacrifice therefore they had something taken away from them without getting anything in return. With Truth it's not about echivalent exchange but about what you're willing to sacrifice, which is a major theme in all religions. Ed got Al's soul back by sacrificing his arm, then he got Al back with another sacrifice which is when Truth (God) finally smiled kindly on him. You cannot make a transaction with God because that would be prideful but you can make an offering in the hopes of getting an unforeseeable blessing. This is what Ed got, his final reward was far greater than that which he sacrificed even though he didn't ask for it directly.

Itβs like a GoT/LotR hybrid, but with a mute/dead protagonist that would make your heart melt (as well as every other character)

2022-10-30 00:27:07 +0000 UTCCan't believe we only have two episodes left πππ when lola always said that she wasn't sure how but she was convinced mei would be crucial in the final fight she didn't know how right she was. not only did she save hawkeye's life and save everyone's ass in the father's place after the sacrifice but al wouldn't have been able to give up his soul in exchange for ed's body had mei not been there. i am so proud of her and of couse of my boys. all three are the bravest children and i'd kill for them. also the part of hohenheim shielding both izumi and ed always make me emotional as fuck. if you're crying this hard right now i cannot imagine what the next two episodes will be. by the way, since i'm pretty sure you're starting vinland saga after fmab i think you'd like to know season two will be premiering january 9th, so just like with mob you will be right on time.

Of course the others all gave up something to be much better at alchemy, but this is really the first time that we can see a tangible exchange happening in the other direction.
