Mr Robot 1x09 Reaction

i know we said remind us again that ep 10 have an after credit scene but we’re on ep 2x02 so no need, we ended up not remembering but remembering before filming the review, so we’re good 😁

Mr Robot 1x09 Reaction

Comments

Thanks for holding off on saying stuff that could give spoilers by implication. I held off on answering any DID-related stuff for the same reason, if someone is posting loads of info about DID in episode 3 comments its like.... so obvious that's where the show is going lmao. Spoilers by implication and omission (like the stuff nobody is saying) are still spoilers! Now people just have to be good for the rest of the show haha :)

Kara

@Camzeee - "You're only seeing what's in front of you, not what's above you" <3

Dustywood

That's fine if that's your opinion. I look forward to Milena & Lola loving this show just as much as the rest of us do. Guarantee they will put it on the same level as BB & BCS by the end

Dante

I like that Angela has a scene of repeatedly refreshing search results waiting for the Terry Colby news to pop up. It fits with what Lola has said of Angela going her own way to try and achieve something similar to Elliot, especially with an episode 1 parallel where Elliot is waiting and waiting to see if Terry will be incriminated. Though this time Angela is hoping for the opposite.

tom

At least I'm consistent Dustywood. I just don't think Mr Robot is Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, even The Americans, Leftovers level of quality that people seem to think it is. Also I'm not that negative about it. I said a lot of positive things about it. How it's unique, how it's a show I'm glad they're watching. You're just focusing on the part where I think it's not amazing. Which I don't think it is.

Camzeee

To be fair, Camzeee, I remember you slagging off Mr. Robot recommendations back when I was subbed here for Better Call Saul - this is not a new perspective you've shared. You're obviously welcome to an opinion, but it does seem to be personal at this point as you continuously recommended against watching this show in the past and now you're here claiming that it's overrated. Basically you're adding negativity to where it doesn't need to be added, the only purpose that serves is self indulgence. Are you just salty it's not another anime series? Because that's all you've seemed to recommend in the past. Also, why are you trying to spoil the nature of the show by adding the type of direction the series takes into your opinion just to slag it off? Just wanting to install a negative perspective or what?

Dustywood

ok. now i'm posting a comment about the actual show. this episode was amazing too. it's really interesting now seeing how elliot and darlene interact. they look like the kind of siblings that love each other (obviously) but don't necessarily get along. understanding in this case. i'd also love to see more of angela and darlene's dinamic. i know elliot is the main character, but i'd love if other characters had meaningful relationships between them without having elliot as a link. yeah, clearly mr robot's side of elliot is trying to convince him not to take his med, but idk, i don't think he'll be able to avoid taking his medication for three more seasons, so i'm intrigued about what they'll do about mr robot when he's medicated. anyway, great episode and review. ps: i don't remember when i listened to bon iver for the first time but i haven't been the same person since i listened holocene. that song has been on my spotify wrapped for years

sand_fl

lol sex life of college girls is amazing. though i don't know if i can choose a favourite, i love the four of them, so i´ll just choose a favourite secondary character... lila. she's just the funniest person. https://twitter.com/kaleighonline/status/1554942402460254208?s=20&t=4fI_BlSW3vfn48RFn_g_Ww the delivery? unmatched.

sand_fl

I believe the word you're looking for is "boring".

Orr Malus

I think he unintentionally said something he didn't mean to (I saw it at the time and responded immediately) - but he deleted it quickly so it's allgood. Was an accidental spoiler

Dustywood

I am allowed to not like a show as much as other people. It's my opinion. I don't like Mr Robot as a viewing experience because I don't like having an unreliable narrator. The style just doesn't work for me. If I can't be sure what I'm seeing on the screen is real I don't care what happens to the characters because they can pull the rug under me whenever they want. It's a personal thing. Perhaps overrated isn't the right word. The right phrase is 'not to my tastes'.

Camzeee

What was the deleted comment? Also, as annoying as it is when people comment spoilers, I'm at least pleasantly surprised that they seem to end up being self-deleted

tom

Spoiler material!

Adam

...... Come on man.... Think through what you just said, unless you're intentionally trying to be a dick? Or if you haven't realized, perhaps delete what you just said..

Dustywood

terrier

Disagree with it being overrated, the cinematography alone is outstanding, along with the synergy of actors together is beautiful. The topic that it covers (which cannot be mentioned at this stage for obvious reasons) is unique and a risk for a series to take. Overall, it's a complete package for a show, and that is rare in this day and age (it's on the same scale as BCS for me). Overrated is the wrong word to use to apply criticism imo.

Dustywood

yeah, it'd be interesting for them to give a summary of their thoughts on all the characters after every season.

justjasper

I mean maybe he thinks it's so bad that it doesn't even deserve a cult following

tom

@Camzeee, out of all the epithets to use to describe Mr. Robot you used the one that is so far from the truth it makes me genuinely believe that you just said it to troll the show's fans here. I can't think of any legitimate reason you would do it otherwise. The amount of cognitive dissonance you'd have to feel to truly believe what you're saying cannot possibly be healthy. BBC - one of the biggest and most respected newspapers in the world - named a list of 100 Best TV shows of the 21st century, and despite the fact that according to both critics and a very passionate fanbase Mr. Robot is easily in the top10 based on those parameters, BBC completely ignored it. Quite the opposite of "overrated" if you ask me. But, hey, at least Rami Malek won an Emmy and the show won the Golden Globe for Best Drama series for its first season, so we've got that going for us :D

Andrew

Oh, I forgot to mention last episode. But I think American Psycho is another inspiration for the show -- especially Tyrell's character. I didn't want to mention it because I was worried if you saw it you might read into it and clock onto the fact that Tyrell would murder someone, haha. Also because it might've confirmed Elliot seeing things that aren't there. The show draws a lot from late-90s early-2000s films now that I think about it: The Matrix, Fight Club, American Psycho and V for Vendetta are ones off the top of my head, though it's possible are lot of those are in turn influenced from earlier works which may be the actual inspiration; I just haven't seen them

tom

As much as I think Mr Robot is a bit overrated as a show, I do admit that it's a 'special' show with very unique draws that are hard to explain. I'm glad you ended up watching it. I understand why people love it and place it among their favorites.

Yeah, it was so hard to recommend the show to you two because describing the draw of the show is difficult! It's an impressive package. I just knew that you would be a good fit for it and I'm glad you're enjoying it. Please make a comment/talk in a video about your favorite characters so far! There may be changes as the show goes on! :)

Me too! Maybe? I've been thinking about it since they started their reactions and I think I like every season equally. They're all so unique and have their own individual perfections. But S2 was my favorite and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that it's Sam Esmail's favorite. I kind of hoped to avoid filling them in on too much fan consensus in case it influences their perception, but since it's out, yeah I think S2 is underrated

tom

Season 2 is pretty divisive but it’s creator Sam Esmail’s favorite (and mine too). I’ll never forget what it felt like watching it week to week the first time

autumn

The music in the final scene is a piano instrumental of the song from the end of Fight Club, btw. And I'm glad you noticed the popcorn on first viewing. EDIT Sorry I commented this right after watching the full reaction XD. I honestly wouldn't expect anyone to recognize it immediately unless they were a superfan of the movie or something. Really impressive

tom

Now that we're officially here, to address some things you mentioned earlier -- yes there are people who thought Mr Robot was real and this episode was a bombshell for them. I've only seen a couple other reactions, but they didn't see it coming (I think one of them did figure that he was Elliot's dad). So it might seem like Elliot's actions this episode are a bit confusing/slow, but between a conspiracy that his father is alive and him creating an entire persona and believing him to be real for months, it makes sense his assumption would be the former. In general when confronted with conflicting information people tend to look for an external information for it before doing any introspection. The show does seem to want you to know, with Elliot saying that we knew all along. I am glad you appreciated the reveal scene in spite of knowing. Rami's acting is so fucking good. The way he has to turn away and tries to dissociate from the situation and the gutteral way he says 'No' is so realistic and impactful. And I love the realization dawning on Darlene's face -- the way she is looking down as Angela asks Elliot who he thinks he was talking to. It's good characterization for both the girls. Angela might even know despite asking, but she is trying to be gentler and more comforting, whereas Darlene is almost trying to dissociate from the situation just as much as Elliot, which shows their similarities in dealing with emotionally heavy situations. And since this comment ended up being about those two -- yes the scene when they reconcile is so cute! I love how Darlene can't help rolling her eyes when she tells Angela she's family but means it anyway

tom

I love how much you guys love Darlene. For some reason I couldn't warm up to her until the second season. But in rewatching she's great immediately from her first scene in the show, haha

tom

Lol Milena with the pronouns. Definitely learned that with the Arcane finale reaction. It's easy to get used to though, dw

tom

Great reaction! Amazing how good the reveals are even when you know they're coming. The ending is such an iconic homage. Looking forward to Finale and S2!

Kara

Hey, does this mean you watched Ep10 without the after credit scene, then you watched it later and THEN filmed the review? Got a bit confused by your phrasing and just wanted to confirm, sorry Also, every season has an after credits scene in the final episode. The only exception is the final season, which has one in its first episode

tom

yes. i was feeling like watching mr robot but i'm watching it with you (i admire my own restraint). just hope this is not an emotional episode because my head is starting to hurt a little. i'll have dinner, take a pill and then watch it.
