Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 29 Reaction

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 29 Reaction

I am pretty sure Armstrong immediately noped out of the war the second he saw civilians being murdered. You could argue he is the most moral of the group that participated in the genocide but there is some nuance that is missed here because the Ishavalans were committing acts of terrorism that claimed the lives of Amestrian civilians. The original anime and the manga go into a lot more detail about this but essentially it was a lot of back and forth conflict over years that ended up escalating to the point that King Bradley could politically justify the genocide. It makes more sense than someone who we know is a person who at least tries to do good like Mustang participating in it as opposed to him mindlessly following orders though that was also to some degree a major factor but it's easy to forget that realistically if you refused orders in the time period this show is based on you would be executed for desertion.

It's kind of what the scene literally tells us.

Rinne

And it was on my 8th rewatch when I noticed that the ouroboros tattoo on Ling is upsidedown compared to the one on the Greed from Dublith. This show.

Peppo

tbh, i think bradley can take mustang and both the elric brothers in that one scene

Paul Huang

They do look similar but crimson has those hair bangs

Justin Spencer

For the record, Mustang is just a very likable dude for being a genocidal minority child toaster. He's goofy. Like a fun uncle to Ed and Al. He'd be the protagonist in any other anime.

Kyan

Lol @ the discussion, getting the Roy copium ready.

Kyan

Her name is Lan Fan.

For those who are interested: The Ishval Flashback arc is covered in chapters 58-61. And you know what, I'll just post the links already: First, the most important scenes that I think should have been included in the anime: https://imgur.com/a/zJE3FV3 Here are all the scenes that were changed or removed completely: https://imgur.com/a/75X5GuD But very important to me now: No discussion about the scenes. We can talk about that in the next episode.

Dr. Knox is one of my favorite minor characters.

Yeah, the Ishval volume in the manga is something else, its so well written and haunting. And while BH is a great adaptation in general there's some really key thematic things from those chapters that were left out that sort of tie things together, even if they aren't strictly needed for the story.

cosmotron

The OVA about Ishval is another story all its own. I'm honestly still confused why the OVA didn't adapt the missing content from the manga. Almost 100 pages about the Ishval War were left out of the anime....

Robert H.

Some reaction channel doing a watchthrough had the OVA's sprinkled in the story to provide further backstory. Doesn't one of them include an Ishval story? If so that one could fit.

Teddy S

Roy is not THE hero of the war, he is called A hero of the war.

Nathan Elkin

I 100% agree, that might be the one and only complaint I have with the brotherhood adaptation, in the manga the whole thing lasted for one entire volume, so in order to fit all that in one episode, the anime unfortunately had to cut quite a lot of very important scenes

Pkiu

Small info: The next episode has been heavily shortened in the anime. Several uncomfortable, but in my opinion also important scenes were not adapted from the manga. I collected the most important ones a month ago and saved them on imgur. So the question to Lola and Milena and also to the Patreons: Should I post the link already now so they can go into it in the discussion of the next episode or is this rather something for the pre-discussion in the episode after?

Robert H.

I think they can still watch the OVAs at the end if they feel they want more FMAB. But I admit that chronologically, that's where the OVA makes the most sense.

Robert H.

Seconding they desire for you guys to check out the 4th OVA after episode 30! But also, since you brought up the similarities between Bradley and Ling, here’s another small but interesting one. Bradley was the twelfth experiment among those who were potential Fuhrers. And Ling is the twelfth prince of Xing.

cosmotron

I love how they give life to even the small characters like Doctor Knox. The mess in his house is clearly a sign of poor mental health. Together with the small bits of dialog from the doctor about the war, you can really get a good understanding of his personality

Raziel_BBT

Agree. I just wish they watch all the OVAs

Raziel_BBT

you have to watch the OVA 4 after the next episode

Gabriel Almeida

Finally 🥰
