You think AOT is bad? In which aspect man :DD? Character development, world building, music (debatable), seriousness, story progression, realistic writing, mystery, themes covered etc easily go to AOT compared to FMAB I'd say. FMAB has more heart and is more fulfilling perhaps but that's about it.

I love Roy and Riza's relationship so so so much! In my head, they are together. They had a thing when he was her father's apprentice and have been kind of together ever since then even if now they can't be out in public because of the whole workplace/superior subordinate issue. Either way, it's such a special relationship... It isn't just love, it's unconditional love, deep admiration and respect.

The write of Full Metal spent a lot of time interviewing and researching war heroes and war criminals for this. I know you guys love this show and appreciate it but I am still blown away that one person was able to write this story and illustrate the manga. It took her nearly ten years to finish but it would probably have taken most people 30 to make a story of such good quality on top of illustrating her own panels.

I started feeling it was overrated after I saw it like 5 times then didn't watch for a couple years. Combination of knowing everything and not watching for a while made me think, "was it really that good after all?" But watching it again you simply cannot deny, a story like this can hardly be done any better.

honestly, people saying the show is overrated or bad haven't seen the show OR their just trying to justify why their favorite anime is the best lol. Yes, some arcs/scenes in the anime could have been stretched a bit or been a bit better. But in terms of the overall story, characters, relationships and such it is definitely some of the best out there

Amazing reaction! This is my favorite show and its been a joy to watch you two react! As many have said, they changed a lot of things from the manga, some of it was moved to earlier episodes(like most of Scar's backstory), some of it for later episodes, and quite a bit was just left out. A few important things to note that were left out: -There are two reasons why Roy is the "Hero of Ishval". He was the one to kill the "last" ishvallan, after which the war was declared over, but he was also seen as a hero by his subordinates, because he made sure to try and keep them safe instead of using them as fodder(as many other officers are seen doing). He later tells Hughes "Hero? Im a failure!", so Id imagine he hates the title for both reasons. -We also see Knox, asking Marco "why am I killing people if Im a doctor?" and he tells Al about Ishval too(with Mei and Lan Fan eavesdropping). -Riza's first appearence in the war is actually saving Roy and Hughes' lives, and Roy is absolutely horrified to see her there(the characters show much more anger, pain and horror in general, in their expressions). -Riza says she was afraid of her father and that he seemed possessed when studying, so yeah, to tattoo your research on your daughters back you cant be too good on the head. Tucker🤝Berthold -Riza also doesnt know anyone else in her family, so she probably doesnt know about general grumman, even though he definetely knows about her since he asked Roy to marry her hehe. -The last page of the flashbacks is Scar taking his vow of vengeance and its pretty chilling. Theres probably stuff I forgot but thats super long already. If you girls ever have the time I HIGHLY encourage you to read it, its is an experience like no other and Arakawa-san is unmatched. Cant wait for the next reaction!

That’s definitely true. As I get older I’m starting to grow out of action shounen a bit but I gotta say it’s still a lot of fun. Now though I’ve been getting way more into manga just cuz there are so many great stories that never got a proper anime adaptation and feature very complex themes and characters.

It kind of gives me a different feeling personally. But yes, I think it still belongs to Shonen. In general, the definition of shonen is very fuzzy anyway. But that's not what I meant. The more recommended ones are in the action genre, but my mentioned ones are more in thriller, drama, everyday life, most of them are set in modern times or in no fantasy world, and with Haikyuu I wanted to bring in the best sports anime again.

Oh, I once heard an "understandable" reason why people don't like the show: humour scenes. Some want the story told more seriously. Personally, though, I think Attack on Titan destroys us emotionally well enough. A show that actually tells an equally dark story but lightens up the narrative with funny scenes is a nice change.

I feel like most people only talk about Vinland Saga, Demon Slayer, Parasyte and Hunter x Hunter simply because they cover the most popular genre(s). Silver Spoon (by FMA creator Arakawa), Monster, Haikyu!, Rainbow Nisha, Ranking of Kings and Odd Taxi are shows that are also great.

What I actually find particularly important is that he was given the job of killing Winry's parents and that he was disappointed when he found their bodies because he wanted to kill them himself. This created a connection with Edward and Alphonse.

Yep big fan of Vinland Saga and you’re right about most Shounen (although I gotta admit I’m hype for chainsaw man). HxH just holds a huge chunk of my heart for some reason, love that show to death. I also think they’d love cowboy bebop but I just don’t think it does good enough numbers on YT to be considered :(. Starting Monster soon btw, heard great things about both it and 20th century boys and now that I’m finally caught up on berserk I can finally start a new seinin (idk the spelling)

There are other phenomenal anime out there for sure, but FMAB is still above the vast majority of other shows. Shounen wise I'd say only this and HxH can stand alongside AOT and Mob Psycho writing wise. In other genres though there's some amazing gems I hope they get to someday, Monster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Banana Fish to name just a few. Counting down the days for Vinland Saga already.

Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point. Wow. Kimblee is incredible. He's the worst dude around, but he's making the right points. Like were Mustang and Hawkeye really that naive, ignorant, and huffed up on propaganda that they didn't realize that being a soldier meant being sent off to k*ll ppl?? The author refusing to give the characters excuses for their actions is fantastic.

I’m actually convinced that Mustang and Hawkeye are together, they just can’t be openly together. I think that’s another beauty of the show, that they can be in a romantic relationship without it being being laid bare to the viewers. Most of the time we see them together, they are in a professional setting and often with subordinates or colleagues, so aren’t able to show us that they’re intimate. I feel like Mustang’s reaction to her reassignment, Hawkeye having to check herself when she was showing too much worry, and Hawkeye commenting on how obvious it is that Ed is in love with Winrey all help with my view on it. Of course, this is just how I interpret it

I looked up those manga panels mentioned in the previous episode comments...... oh. They really go all in depicting how dark that was. That's incredibly haunting. And uh.... that "hospital" full of live burnt ishvalens..... so i guess that's what Doctor Knox was hinting at in earlier episodes when he said Roy would "burn them, and i'd disect them". He was speaking literally..... 😐

FMAB and AoT are definitely top anime, but the medium is full of stories that are as good if not better. Y'all are barely scratching the surface! There's so much more out there. Like Hunter x Hunter lol (gonna plug it every time i comment at this point)

The parts of the manga that they cut from the anime are very good and it's a shame that they are missing. But the biggest shame was the Crimson Alchemist. He was the character that was most affected by the missing content. His character is so more interesting with all the context of the war. I'm glad that they read the manga chapters

There is a very simple reason why Roy and Hawkeye are not together: Relationships between superiors and subordinates are forbidden in the military.

ok, there were no people at the gym for a bit morebthan haldf an hour and i could watch most of the edited please, not lola creating a whole ass fanfiction about roy and hawkeye in the discussion. it reminded me of when they watched arcane and she began shipping cait and vi even before they talked to each other and then she said they were on a date when they were investigating 😂 this is one of the hardest episodes to watch. i agree that epiosode 4 is traumatising to watch and episode 10 is heartbreaking, but god, this episode is like a punch in the guts. seeing so many innocent people getting murdered by characters we've grown to love is horrifying. all those lives lost and for what. i love that the writer didn't shy away from showing the unforgivable acts those characters committed and that she made sure that at least a few of those characters would have to live with what they did and feel horrible about it. and i also think she did a great job depicting the difference between those characters and others like kimblee, who is proud of what he did and enjoyed while doing it. anyway, now back to work, i'll watch the full and the expanse reaction i a few hours.

i appreciate that hawkeye doesnt let herself or anyone else hide being the excuse that the homunculi were the orchestrators behind the massacre or that the soldiers/alchemists were “just following orders”. that doesnt change the fact that they are war criminals and i appreciate the author for emphasizing their culpability despite our characters being young/naive and maybe ignorant to what being a soldier meant
