We haven't seen Gao in a leadership position or with the knowledge Ava has, so this is a very premature conclusion in general.

I don't agree that Gao is a bad leader. She has some gaps for sure, but she's driven, grounded and shows a clear desire to help the people. She's informed and prepared and has a good understanding of who her people are and what they want. She lacks some of insight Avasarala has into the dangers of the Protomolecule, but this is partly a consequence of Avasarala always playing her cards close. She has both the dreams & recklessness of youth, which is a double-edged sword for sure, but as she points out in the debate, she's done a lot to advance QoL for the underprivileged, something Avasarala has entirely overlooked.
Not saying I'd choose Gao here, knowing what she knows and esp as Avasarala learns empathy & begins to shed her "Earth must come first" mentality. But I think beyond her weaknesses, Gao has many strengths that Ava lacks. And Ava has been playing the game so hard, she seems to have lost the forest for the trees a bit. While leaders seek to "do the right thing," it's important they find a way to bring their people along and not insist they simply trust their competence. She hasn't had to face this shortcoming before, having "never interviewed for a job".

"Would losing be so bad?"
I dunno, Avasarala is a pretty smart leader and honestly, Gao is not. There can be bad consequences to picking the worse leader. One might even take that lesson into the real world.

I like binge watching but I think you're right. Watching reactors watch season 4 week by week has made season 4 better in my mind. And I'm catching things I missed. The more experience I have with it, the more I think binge watching isn't a great idea - especially with this show that crafts such amazing cliff hangers. It's hard, but for people watching this show the first time, try and wait.

Those of us watching as the episodes dropped had to wait a week between 3 and 4. So, so frustrating.

One big reason season 4 isn't remembered as fondly as the other seasons is because Amazon dropped all of the episodes at once. Everyone binged them instantly and missed out on all the hype and social aspects of talking about the episodes as they happen and living the cliffhangers and so forth. So go ahead and binge this all you want, we all did. But season 5 had to shift back to the weekly episode drops after they dropped episodes 1-3 on one day. It will be an absolute shame if you watch any of the 4-10 episodes of season 5 together because those cliffhangers will cause you more pain than any show ever has. I need the schadenfreude of your suffering them just like I had to.

This episode teaches an important lesson: Marcos does not play by anyones rules but his own.

Well probably to late now , but its better to watch 8 , 9 and 10 together then 7 and 8 . Last 3 are arguable the best of the season . But since that warning was late maybe you will want to watch episode 10 and Ep1 of season 5 together since Ep10 does kind of ends of on cliffhanger ( I mean its not really necessary , but maybe ) . However you will definitely want to watch 3 and 4 of next season together .
