this has to be one of the best episodes of the show

The books are definitely worth a read. They have different nuances and shades from the show, but they are still great reads.

The first time I watched this episode, it became my favorite of the series. I never get tired of watching it. I am still no over Fred's death.

Gillian Rosheuvel

Yeah I agree.

While I appreciate the show's commitment to realism and how information really would circulate in a situation like this, I wish they would have just made it clear for the viewer. Typically, news broadcasts on TV in a TV show is exposition to be taken as fact.

Watching multiple episodes together is pretty much necessary this season. But unless you're going to watch the whole thing at once, there will be unbearable cliffhangers. Im going to take a leap of faith and say one in particular is just so utterly magnificent it will break whatever plans you have if you didnt make time for the following episode.

The explosive yield of one of the asteroids was 21 megatons. It was shown in the opening of the first episode of season 5 very briefly. For comparison the most powerful nuclear bomb ever made had an explosive yield of 50 megatons which is around 3,300 times more powerful than the bomb that hit Hiroshima. So the three asteroids that hit had a combined explosive yield of 63 megatons. The confusion comes from the different numbers given by the scientist and the news. But these numbers were estimates and they were wrong, because they did not have all the information to make the calculations. For example, the scientist who did the calculation for Avasarala estimate it to be between 1 to 4 megatons but the speed he assumed was too low because he did not account for the fact that Marco had accelerated the rocks to very high speeds. The news people got it wrong as well for the same reason and there is usually a lot confusion after an attack of this magnitude.

Great reaction girls once more. This one is probably my 2nd best episode of the show (after Home). So much happens and it's so expertly directed. I loved it. Also really big kudos to Milena for figuring out Amos's story line even before the season 5 started. The fact that from that one small conversation in the first episode of season 4 between Clarissa and Amos she got the idea that, that would be the story line of Amos, literally blows my mind.

I wouldn't count him out, the man was a Navy SEAL.

Ken Hendel

a hundred years of oppression and exploitation made someone like Marco inevitable. Doesn't excuse him but one would have to be very naïve to think giving the boot to an entire people over long periods of time will not result in a charismatic sociopath.

Gilbert Serrano

I hope the girls read the books after they finish the series. I believe a lot of their, and many others confusion about certain things will really help.

Since it still seemed somehow unclear in the discussion: The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had an explosive force of 12 to 20kT TNT. So the asteroids already caused a huge explosion. But the scary thing is that the most powerful nuclear bombs developed have an explosive force of 50 MT TNT (50,000 kT TNT). The damage that such a bomb can do is truly enormous.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the show, yes. Edit: I wish you guys had time to sit on this one before jumping into the next one. It's a tour de force of an episode.

The reason why the succession was unclear is that the UN headquarters are located in New York which was hit by one of the astroids.

Best episode of the series and for me the best episode of tv I've ever had the pleasure of watching! Was a pleasure watching your reaction to such an insane episode!

If you're familiar with the Gundam franchise, Marco is a lot like one of the main antagonists, Char. I'm pretty sure that's on purpose. But even if it wasn't Marco, this probably would have been done by someone. There's obviously a parallel with 9/11 here, and it would be easier to simply blame Marco and his ego for all of this, but there's a reason he could get enough people to join him in this. And now atrocity begets atrocity, and millions are dead.

Sakai (the traitor who shot Fred) was the chief engineer on Tycho and, as such, had access to a lot of technical details of the station and was presumably how she figured out where the protomolecule was hidden.

Let's have a moment of silence for Chef Casey - his legendary macaroons will be sorely missed. #RIP

Yes I was waiting for this . And yes one of the best episodes ...not to mention Milena is kinda Nostradamus . She nailed Amos going to visit Peaches before season started . Most reactors very often didn't figure out until Amos enter her cell . Outstanding logic and well thought . Just buckle up girls it gets even better until end of the season . Some of my favorite parts with Amos are coming .

Sone

Literally just opened up my laptop to catch up on some work, only to see this notification. Well I guess work can wait lol. Who needs sleep anyway. Yeah this is easily a top three episode of the entire series.

Varun Laks

This is in my top 3 episodes of the show

Dante

at least something to look forward to after the meeting 😁
