That non-word Lola gave to describe her excitement at the beginning. 😆😆I can relate

I'm not really following the logic behind May leaving to take Envy back to her country. The only secret to immortality that Envy knows is how to make philosopher's stones out of people. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I could have sworn May herself said that she wouldn't want the emperor to have access to that knowledge.

Perhaps her knowledge of what happened in Ishval *is* why she considers her brother a coward? I was thinking about this too since Olivier seems like a basically good, though very tough, no-nonsense person, and the only way I could make sense of it was if it offends her because Alex running away means he understood how how wrong the military was, but didn't have the resolve to stay and do something about it. That's how I made sense of her attitude in a way that seemed consistent with the character anyway. I could still see that rubbing people the wrong way, since it's not a particularly empathetic stance, but I definitely can see the logic of it ethically.

I actually lowkey wish they had watched the Liore and the Yoki episodes from the original FMA, just to get a bit more of it fleshed out.

Oh I see, that makes sense. 100%, couldn’t imagine acting like that towards a sibling. I also really like her character a lot which I guess is why I’m trying to find something more complex there, or wish for a better explanation in the show.

the only intro that I don't like that much is the third one. All the others I have some difficulty in ranking them because they are all incredible

If I had a nickel for every time Lola tossed her pillow when an Elric brother reunited with their father, I would have two nickels…which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

@H it was mentioned when miles told the boys about him being ishvalan for the first time that she was already in command in the wall, so that was her work, she didn't have to join the war, just defend the border.
you make a goo point. maybe it's just his "lack of resolve" thought i do not think he lacks resolve at all.
she's one of my favourite character, this is just something that's always bothered me a bit about her. idk, maybe it's that I'm really close with my sister and i don't think i'd act that way in her postion.

I feel that part about Olivier, but I like to think there’s more to her anger than that. She’s always had problems with Alex’s “cowardice” and I guess she’s in part angry he joined the battle in the first place if he was just going to be disgraceful and run away. She dislikes his lack of resolve and thinks he isn’t fit to be a soldier. Which also has me wondering where she was during the war in ishval? Did she choose not to join? Did her post in Briggs keep her away from the war? Because she also dislikes Roy a lot—not sure if it’s for his war crimes or for a completely different reason. She’s shown with the mercy she gave to her men in the tunnel that she’s not about absolute power and ruthlessness, which is why I’m really curious about the entirety of why she reacted like that towards Alex.

also if i'm being honest i kinda find this form on envy a bit cute... same with the dwarf in the flask when he was just that. can't help it, it's the squeaky voices, specially in the sub 😂
when envy was being all smug and refused to answer and just turned their head? that was cute af lol

i was listening to the review but not watching it because i was cooking while it was playing and imagine my surprise when i went to grab a 7up from the fridge and took a peek at the screen and see milena with a fucking pair of scissors doing her nails? lol
i always found that scene with yoki hilarious, poor man thought nobody cared if he died.
olivier and alex's scene also hilarious... until it's not. tbh that's one of the only things i do not like about her character (not saying it's bad writing, just a part of her character i'm not fond of). i understand that she values royalty towards her comrades, but surely she knows what happened in ishval was a genocide on the military arms, so i don't get why she says alex is a coward because of leaving when it's clear he just didn't want to kill innocent people.

Since you are a little uncertain with the map: Here is the map of Amestris, where I have marked in light blue the places you know. Pink is the mining town where the story of Yoki took place.

What is also easy to see from this map is that Ed and Al's hometown is very close to the Civil War of Ishval. And where there are many corpses, there are also many diseases that spread. So the fact that Trisha got sick and died can also be connected to the civil war in Ishval.

There's a method to why FMA manages to blend humor and drama and action so seamlessly. It even works if you're aware of the technique. Anime is an artstyle developed around being as economic as possible. Studios simply cannot afford to commission a song for each scene so they end up recycling what they have over and over. Each character has a theme and their theme is played when said character takes the upper hand. The drawback of this is that the audience develops a Pavlovian response, they'll know who's going to end up on top based on whose theme is playing. So how do anime studios create tension without showing their hand? Through silence. When a theme starts playing and then you're hit with silence a strong feeling of unease will creep in. This is how they build tension. Only when a theme is played and then everything suddenly goes silent do major events happen. For example a character will never die when a theme is playing. This creates another Pavlovian response in the audience: (any) theme + silence = tension. So what happens when there's no theme playing? This is a third conditioning which lets the audience know that they get let their guard down. When it's silence followed by silence they know they're safe so to speak and can just enjoy the scene. When the audience is primed like this, in a relaxed state, is when they introduce the humor elements. What I described is not unique to FMA but a general rule in all of anime. They've been doing it for at least 40 years now based on my research. I'm very cognizant of the production side of shows but this technique manages to get me every single time. It's foolproof. Sorry for the wall of text.

I noticed you commented on May's age, saying she's "like 6", but she's actually in the 11-12 area! She's just on the short side lol.
