I haven't seen anything yet which gives me cause for alarm, despite some of the more glaring changes from the source material.

2022-09-04 02:09:35 +0000 UTCI like it. LOTR movies were very good, struggled with the books.. Hobbit book & movies loved them more than LOTR, both versions, Never read anything else and not caught up in the lore, but really liking this series already.

They only have rights to the LOTR books and the Hobbit So, they can use for example the characters Sauron and Galadriel (and others), and they can use historical stories that are mentioned in the books they have the rights to They can't actually portray on screen the exact events of the Silmarillion So the show is going to be based on historical fluff that's mentioned in the books they have rights to (mostly ancient songs and legends briefly mentioned) But the plot will unavoidably be a new retelling not written by Tolkien I don't care about that, I'm looking forward to it. But a large section of the fantom will hate it π

2022-09-04 01:01:52 +0000 UTC@riv oh, i had no idea about the safety standards, that's awful though i don't think boycotting the show will do much, but that's a bit more understandable i guess. i wondered why it had a low rating on imdb. i guess that the boycott is why. ngl, i haven't read the books, though i plan to do it at some point because tolkien was a linguist (that's what i studied) and i always intended to read them at some point. the thing is i can't be mad at changes i don't even know they made, so far i'm liking the show.

I'm not happy about the changes to the lore (feels like they flattened Tolkien's rich world into cookie cutter marketing-oriented fantasy), but tbh I thought the main reason people were boycotting it was Amazon's greed

I really enjoyed these first two episodes and it really reminded me of what I love about this franchise, both the books and the movies. It's a shame about what the comment section, particularly on youtube, will inevitably turn into. But hopefully, you guys can tune that all out and just focus on the show itself. It'll certainly be a challenge.
