Therefore, I recommend you guys to watch Beastars, which they have discussed a lot about a society, adolescence, love, and live&death in a very romantically symbolic way. You will definitely love the show.

It has no paranormal elements like alchemy but there are several overlaps between it and FMA:B like the saintly morality of the main character, mysterious villain with unclear motivation, and found family theme. You can test out the first 2 episodes and see if it's a good fit.
