Mr. Robot 2x12 Reaction

Mr. Robot 2x12 Reaction

Comments

I just don't care enough, Tom - you have this "super fan" approach and it's just undesirable to interact with. You can have the last word, I'm not a child so go ahead - doesn't phase me.

Dustywood

There's a really long upcoming one in 3x1 too. Also ROT-13 spoilers, Vfa'g gur fhojnl fprar lbh'er guvaxvat bs sebz gur svany rcvfbqr? ununun

tom

It's definitely a unique show and hard to convey its value. But who knows, if we try hard enough maybe they'll put it on the poll after Mr Robot (It'll certainly lose to The Last Kingdom or Black Sails at first) and maybe a bunch of secret Mad Men fans will come out of hiding in support XD

tom

When you realize you can't address any of my points but want to have the last word, lol

tom

Tom zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dustywood

I wish! No reaction channel has ever covered it IIRC. I get why - it finished long before the modern era of reaction channels and it probably wouldn't be very popular. We'd be happy though! haha

Kara

I'll break down the purpose of the comment so we're clear 1. Correcting misinformation 2. Affirming that I **don't have an issue with people watching the deleted scene**, but that because of the aforementioned correction, it probably shouldn't be recommended immediately after 3x1. Not to mention the scene isn't even from 3x1, but 3x4. Also I actually agree that it could be helpful in pointing out deleted scenes to Mr Robot fans. But in that case use the cipher so it's for the fans :)

tom

El-P from Run the Jewels even has a cameo in one of the future Mr. Robot episodes :D

SeeBaer

Tom, I think you're a little too controlling over what you want others to perceive of the show, if they want to see the content they can copy and paste the URL and have a look for themselves - if they don't want to that's also their choice. For myself and possibly others, I found this to be a helpful comment because I did not know of this scenes existence - so I've benefited from it maybe some others have as well? The scenes are still apart of the story regardless, maybe ease up on your desire to control the direction of the commentary?

Dustywood

Dustywood, I double checked the interview, and nope. Here, from the man himself: (spoilers, obviously) https://youtu.be/gwSpDTwbdeI?t=3268 "There was nothing cut where it was like 'We have to keep this runtime'. If you look at the episodes, some of them were over an hour, some were 40 minutes . . . I'm very much about getting the pacing and the rhythm right, which sometimes doesn't have anything to do with the runtime" So it's not because of production. They're intentionally not in the episode. Like I said in my original comment, they exist and were released so it's not like he wouldn't want people to see it. But it's not supposed to be part of the experience of watching the show of Mr Robot, therefore I'm against immediately after 2x12 be like "Hey now watch this". Especially because, even if they've seen 3x1, the deleted scene wasn't from that episode.

tom

The majority of deleted scenes are simply down to production time, because they've already gone through the process of editing them / preparing them for another scene - it's filmed and the actors are paid for the work / the editors / directors etc. I feel that due to the amount of work they put in, they want their deleted scenes to be released because they've already put the time and effort into creating them - but putting it into the actual episode really comes down to meeting production times. If I was to guess, due to the amount of time they put into writing / creating the scenes and paying for it's development / film, Sam would probably want people to see the hard work they put in so they release the footage of what they previously could not fit into their original episode time. I welcome it personally, and also given the filming time of these episodes I assume that they're probably well deep into Season 3 by now so it's not a spoiler.

Dustywood

Yeah, I guess my whole thing is I wouldn't want them to see it before watching the whole season at least, or whole series, so when I comment on patreon I try to avoid things I wouldn't want them to read (ie why I use the whole rot-13 system) I get it can come off as an attack when someone is against someone's comment existing, so I didn't mean it that way. I actually thought about this scene too after the reaction but then remembered the interview and in my opinion at least that means that the TV release is the definitive one, and the deleted scenes are little bonuses to be watched after (since if you watch deleted scenes without seeing the whole series it's going to add to your understanding of the show in your mind rather than being a bonus)

tom

Crab you and I need to campaign for them to add Mad Men to a poll eventually XD

tom

@tom I agree that there's a reason why they cut it, but there's also a reason why they still put it online for people to see (who wants to check it, just not forcing anyone), so mixed feelings.

terrier

Why comment this

tom

I'm against deleted scenes and hope someone can see my perspective. The creator of the show said he likes the TV versions as the definitive versions of the series. Of course, the scenes are out there, but I don't think we should be encouraging them to watch these before the series is over. And it's just unfair to boost this specific deleted scene when we haven't done so initially. I also personally think is makes the final scene of S2 less powerful. There's probably a reason they didn't put it in the episode, and again Sam Esmail has said he wouldn't want to release a version of the show that includes the deleted scenes It feels rude to ask for this comment to be deleted but man this just feels unnecessary.

tom

Am I the only one who caught what Lola said in the review about Elliott? :-)

Dante Moten

@Max, your end of video recommendations are your profiles algorithms, not everyone will see what you see. @autumn - Are you referring to the Tyrell scene with Joanna's father by chance? That scene is so important for Tyrells character but was deleted as well

Dustywood

I've actually never seen that (though I think it was meant to sit in ep 3x3). Thanks! There is definitely a deleted scene in S4 that feels important for clearing up an important character motivation. Always a shame when things are cut for time

autumn

yeah I see, I use the unhook extension so it never shows the recommendations, but makes sense to avoid it.

terrier

yeah, it's one of the few shows I've rewatched like 4+ times and find something new each time. Andor and Mad Men are others (though Andor is just 1 season so far)

Kara

The thumbnails that appears at the end of the videos are HUGE spoilers for the whole series. So they definitely should not watch that video until they have finished the whole series.

MaxVSTheGames

One thing I love about this show is the amount of breadcrumbs that are all over the place in plain sight but subtle enough its hard to catch them all as you go thru the episode

Brad Johnson

i think nobody speak was my most listened to song in january/december

LM Reactions

Wow, thank you! I haven't seen this clip before, wish they didn't delete it - Irving is such a good character!

Dustywood

There's a deleted scene of how Angela first met Irving, NO SPOILERS, just more context, but watch after s03e1, let me know in the replies if they can watch it, if not then maybe after season 3 finale - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TspQyzs0XSo

She's a master strategist but the thing I admire most about her is her improvization and ability to use an unexpected situation to her advantage. She didn't know it was Scott making those calls the whole season. She didn't know about Sharon's pregnancy until that scene. But she swiftly maneuvered herself into an even better position than her original plan with Derek would've allowed for. I love the parallel with Scott choking her and her legs kicking out just like Tyrell did to his wife, and now he's doing it to his wife, and for a moment you think (I did, at least) that it's going to happen again in a cruel mirror scene almost as poetic justice for Joanna. But unlike Tyrell, Scott has a conscience. His mistake. I love how the veil is lifted in this episode. This storyline was playing the long game with us, just like Joanna was.

tom

I love the way Elliot finishes Tyrell's explanation because OF COURSE he can

Isaac

She's a brilliant actress too, I don't even think I blink when she's in a scene - just so focused and intrigued

Dustywood

Ah, sweet! Thanks for the explanation!

Dustywood

I'll die defending S2, it absolutely slaps, and I didn't wanna post this before now cuz didn't want to add to S2 discourse but S3 is just pure back to back bangers, they really got the whole production in an incredible flow and then S4 caps it off. hard to say which is 'better' but it's a hell of a ride. so excited for next episode S3 premiere

Kara

I commented who he was because they asked about his name in the credits of a previous episode, maybe other people did too and they saw it. or they just connected the dots themselves yeah

Kara

Tyrell had a lot of fans on the discussion boards around when this episode came out. I think his hot/obsessed/insane/pathetic combo appeals to a lot of people haha. a very good believable performance

Kara

truly would have been the shockiest moment

Kara

The one shot where Mr Robot is "distracting" elliot is iconic. I think about how they would film it every time, with Christian Slater darting around the camera to his marks to casually appear lol. There's a cool behind the scenes video of a subway scene from an earlier episode, Christian Slater has to physically run off one subway car, run along the platform, jump onto the following train and then say his lines not out of breath. definitely hidden physicalities to the role, so good

Kara

who among us hasn't met a cute guy on a work trip, become a lil obsessed, and decided to "become gods together" by blowing up a building. guilty!

Kara

last one dropped a little early on Friday night when it was supposed to be saturday day. this one dropped late wednesday night (or very early thursday morning depending timezone). so they're on schedule, next one should be saturday, friday earliest or early sunday if late

Kara

Joanna is such a good character. Just masterfully puts together a plan, puts herself at great risk for it and commits pure psychopathy, then probably goes home and sings lullabies to her baby. Her energy is just so wild, you have no idea what's gonna happen any time she's on screen and her not being affiliated with any major "faction" (so to speak) makes her even more unpredictable.

Kara

Song rec wise, should check out anything from Run the Jewels, very good and their music videos are great/fun and their themes actually line up alot with Mr Robit. "Legend Has it" and "Nobody Speak" especially.

RocktSurgeon

The scene with Darlene and Dom always reminds me of STFU Friday, important legal advice- https://youtu.be/uqo5RYOp4nQ

RocktSurgeon

Stage 2 was always in Elliot's subconscious. During his dream about the future he wants to fight for (earlier in the season), everyone sits at a table in front of the data storage building shown in this episode, and they applaud as it's blown up and collapses.

autumn

I love Tyrell's obsession with Elliot, despite literally shooting Elliot he tells Angela "I love him" - god that makes me laugh.

Dustywood

Glad this one is out, though it was 5 days after the previous episode despite filmed on same day? Does this mean we are skipping an episode this week?

Dustywood

This episode has some impressive long takes! The series, in general. I know you don't usually focus on that stuff but because there's multiple this episode I thought it'd get a mention (Dom and Santiago talking, Mr Robot and Elliot arguing, and of course the post-credits scene which is one take like last season). But I still want justice for the Angela hack scene in 2x6! I feel like that one is never talked about by fans, hahaha. It took me a couple rewatches to realize how long the camera was on them without cutting

tom

If it was about to happen boom boom

tom

They don't. He's in previous episodes. I think they connected the name in the credits to him in between episodes

tom

It might still be my favorite. It's flip-flopped for me. Was classically my favorite for a while, recency bias made both S3 and S4 overtake it for me temporarily only for me to go back to it, then when the girls started it I went with 2=3=4>1, but right now I think I'm back to 2>3=4>1. Will be cool to see if 3 or 4 can take its spot with the upcoming rewatch EDIT: And @Isaac, in ROT-13 what's the non-hitter episode? Please spell out the number and surround with text so it doesn't bleed through the cipher! can't watch the discussion right now because it's pretty late and shouldn't have even watched the episode but i was too eager. this was a fantastic season finale and, surprising no one, i'm confused as fuck. we finally got that dom/darlene interaction and it was really interesting to watch, can't wait to see how that develops. that scene with joanna and the guy from glee whose name i can't remember was perfect in every sense. both actors did a fenomenal job and it was so uneasy to watch. i'm not sure how mr robot did in terms of awards but i hope the actors got the recognition they deserve because honestly, there's not one single bad actor in this show. i'm sad cisco is dead, he was a great character and also gave us some funny (and needed) moments. also, what the hell did white rose did to angela in that 28 minutes? change her whole persona? wtf, she's a completely different person. and last but not least, let's all give a round of applause to tyrell's actor because i don't think anyone could have played tyrell as a creepy psycho but also pathetic and funny the way he did. that 'i love him' was a curve ball to my brain. my braincells are too tired to try to figure that whole plot right now.

sand_fl

Wow surprised they know joey lol. I dont watch this show but had to watch to see that thumbnail

"The moth don't care when he sees the flame..." I think the Dom/Darlene and Elliot/Tyrell scenes are both really excellent this ep, and both dynamics are super fascinating to watch unfold. But I honestly think that the best individual scene of the episode is Joanna and Scott. It shows just how good she is at manipulation, and the camera shots showing her legs struggling just like Sharon's gets me, as if the cinematography is also helping to sell the lie. Joanna's machinations are always vastly entertaining. Season 3 is probably my favorite season, I'd say that it's probably the most streamlined season and after the surreal nature of S2 it is nice to "return to reality" so to speak. Tyrell shooting Elliot marks a turning point in the series and it'll be fun to see how it goes. And I really am glad that you find Tyrell so funny because he honestly really really is ROT13 s3 spoilers: V'z ubarfgyl zbfg rkpvgrq sbe gurz gb trg gb gur Gleryy sbphf rcvfbqr. S3 is my personal favorite. 9 of the 10 episodes are hitters. Some of them being truly unique, experimental TV. Plus my favorite character joins the cast next episode! :)

Isaac

Did you realize that Romero’s death was just a lost bullet…much ado about nothing

Agitprop

Watching the season again, you just notice the clues they leave around about the FBI already being on the case for a while. Watching it after watching the whole show, some of the Whiterose stuff makes a lot more sense, but I won't go into that. It's a good cliffhanger at the end, shooting the lead character, Darlene in custody and finding out about the investigation, Trenton and Mobley with Leon. We had to wait more than a year for the story to continue and even longer to get answers to what happened to some of them

EShy

Still didn't enjoy it as much as much as other TV show enthusiasts seem to. It feels disjointed and I don't buy into the stakes. But I'm gonna give S3 a chance. I've heard it gets better.

Camzeee

RIP Fry's Electronics...

EShy

I feel like watching the two episodes together makes sense, but people don't seem to realize when they suggest it to you that it means less discussion overall. Anyway I hope you enjoyed and really excited to see what you think of S3. Would love for a character ranking from your both since I feel like S2 is where you really started to watch for the characters

tom

Orr Malus

This is my 5th rewatch and I like season 2 more every time I watch it. I think it passed season 1 for me on my 3rd or 4th watch because I think it has a stronger finale. Still have 3 and 4 above it though Esmail ascended to another level in those seasons I'm so excited

Dante

Another season down! For our rewatchers: What did you think of the season this time around? Curious what people think the highs and lows were
