Edward "Babe" Heffron: "If anyone ever tells you the Holocaust didn't happen, or that it wasn't as bad as they say, no, it was worse than they say. What we saw, what these Germans did, it was worse than you can possibly imagine."

Maybe can put self through 1 more episode 1x11 Band Of Brothers - We Stand Alone Together. It's little more light hearteed well give men behind easy, there reunions, there lives after the war.

literally post hoc justification usually used by tankies. Tons of shit to criticize US with, don't need to make up shit to be mad at.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions :) Appreciate it.

@Camzee, I don't watch this show but here's a 10/10 site imo for streaming these episodes in 1080P / no registration or ads if it may help - https://ourtv.online/

Alternatively, you can right-click on your screen when in HBO Max or wherever else you are watching, click "Inspect" then in the tab that says "Console" type document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 1.0428 and then hit enter. I've found that gets the sync even closer than the slider in VLC. Still might slightly go out of sync every now and again but a quick pause and play gets it back on track. I just use the beginning interviews for the first sync. You can probably fine-tune the number more to get it perfect but I've found that one has worked for me.

Play the BoB episode 1.04x speed. To do this, in VLC go to View then click Status Bar. A playback speed slider should appear next to the timeline. I think this speed discrepancy is because they're watching a physical DVD copy of the show which means it's a PAL DVD cause they're in Europe, which means it plays faster than NTSC DVD's which are closest to the original distribution version of the show, which is probably the version you have if you have downloaded the show.

This is one of the only series that I just can't find a copy to match your full reaction. Your episode is fast somehow and I'm not sure by how much. I gave up after episode 2 and have just been watching the edited ones.

"US didnt join for some empire building reason". NATO was officialized in Washington DC and each NATO member has a perpetual US army base on their soil. For not wanting to build an empire, they have a weird way of showing it.

FDR knew we would be pulled in eventually that's why he started building up the military and production in the late 30's, and why he started lend lease to Britain and eventually USSR. Also the public overall wanted nothing to do with another European war, over 100,000 Americans died in the last year of WW1 to stop a European war, and here they are just a few years later starting up again. The antiwar republican lost to FDR for a reason. US didnt join for some empire building reason, the spanish-american war, mexican-american war , or the many indian wars were for empire building/expansion.

Both Russia and the USA are empires and it's a law of nature that they will fight at some point. It just so happened that in WW2 these 2 empires joined forces to crush the new emerging German empire. After WW2 Europe basically ceased being autonomous and with the formation of NATO its member states essentially became vassals of the USA empire. This is why the USA fought. Helping rebuild Europe made the USA in the richest empire on Earth. There was a problem, though. Russia pretty much had the same idea in mind as the USA in regards to Europe, because Russians are Europhiles after all. Unfortunately for them the sentiment doesn't go both ways and Europe turned to the USA instead of Russia (even though Russia was the one that essentially won the war). The USA knew this would create more problems so they decided to give Eastern Europe to Russia as a way to placate them, which it did.

Orr Malus

Sadly Eastern Europe just came under new oppressive leadership under the Soviet Union. While less bad than under Nazi Germany that’s not really a positive since it was still pretty damn bad and not much of the freedom they had before ww2 wouldn’t come until the 90s.

Melkor

Every take I've seen is that the only reason the US joined the war was because of the attack on Pearl Harbour. Heck the interviewees even state that as the reason they signed up in the opening interviews.

Tom

Stopping the spread of fascism and oppression across the whole of the Eastern Hemisphere was most definitely a big part of it, whether the details of the Holocaust were known or not. The writing was on the wall and was part of the reason. You can't say "wasn't at all"

EmwunGarand

Except it wasn't at all, but in retrospect it looks good.

That's Why We Fight!!!
