Mr. Robot 3x10 Reaction

Mr. Robot 3x10 Reaction

Oh oh, also in a fun little nod to those of us that do web development. A "if you know, you know" nod to us. DOM in the HTML world is basically the makeup of any webpage you visit, and *sometimes* you need to lookup certain elements on a page and change them on the fly, or in other words manipulate. SO basically, Sam has been gently hinting that "Dom manipulation" was going to be a thing in the future this whole damn time 🤭 that clever sunnovabitch. 😁

Ron B

The show really flexed it’s parallel storytelling in the episode where we see the shoot out at the diner in S2. Elliott and Angela talking on the train, to Don searching for Darlene and Cisco on the streets, to the two of them Dining. Each and every cut in the three intertwined plot lines was impeccable. That, paired with the menacing crescendo just made it a masterpiece.

Prateek Mishra

Wonderful reaction and glad to see you two already saw the first episode in season 4! Could you imagine having to wait 2 years to see the change from the season 3 finale to the opening of season 4 like those of us that were watching it in real time? 😋 Every season before it was a year apart, season 3 to season 4 was 2 years apart.

Ron B

completely agree with the one a week but also dopamine-chasing greed lord I am being happy that they have shifted to two a week, and goes without saying super happy to hear them thinking that this might be one of the favorites of all time as well.

Ron B

I didn't realize until this watchthrough that the song as Whiterose's man was driving up was Chinese version of "Bang Bang" by Nancy Sinatra. What foreshadowing.

Hollow

Definitely feels like it went by pretty fast. In the beginning I said I think once a week is ideal, and I still stand by that because of how big the episodes are, but I can't deny the dopamine-chasing part of my brain is happy we got twice a week. I'm really glad you said this could end up becoming one of your favorite shows and it's been great watching the surprise at how much there is to it gradually unfold. Quite the journey from the first episode which is exemplified by the amount of parallels this episode has to it, making it really feel full circle.

tom

Overall great ep and reaction. I think the final scene emotion-wise was a little mixed because of your interpretation of the train scene (and you missed Darlene saying "I'm here to remember for you" which is one of my favorite really sweet lines between the two) but you recognizing the artist was cool. As a finale, despite things being very un-cathartic and in-the-middle with the majority of the characters, for Elliot it feels very satisfying compared to the end of S1 and S2, and finally it feels like something has been completed, with Mr Robot and Elliot on the same side as well as Elliot trying to alleviate all the harm he's caused.

tom

I don't get why Lola was so perplexed by Dom not being desperate to save her life and being defiant against working for the Dark Army. She had already accepted her death by that point and is then told to betray everything she stands for, so obviously she's not going to be clamoring to accept that offer lol

tom

Andor was my favorite show of 2022. It's a masterpiece imo. The show is separated into arcs so I recommend watching at least the first 3 eps to try (though my favorite is the second arc, eps 4-6)

Kara

The music by max Quayle helps a lot.

Agitprop

So happy to be there for these reactions and discussions. im so excited for the next season!!

x

so many comparisments with lalo but i always saw the axe scene as box cutter lol

x

Do you know how Sam esmail looks like…maybe you should…and his wife…just saying…

Agitprop

Wow I think I had made that connection subconsciously when watching Arcane. I wonder if there's anything to that, or if they're just both a common character trope. It's also pretty funny because LM's reaction to Darlene-Dom stuff before it even happened reminded me of Lola's expectations for Vi-Caitlyn, and now that I think about it, I have thought that Caitlyn and Dom are a little similar before, but it's even more so when you combine that with the Santiago being like Marcus connection

tom

@Crab That's how I always saw it too. Dom has put her whole life into her work, so obviously she has to believe it means something and that she is working for a greater cause.

tom

Trust me, you don't want to binge Season 4 :D. You would need therapy afterward.

Adam

Yeah Irving is clearly not a good guy by any stretch, it's more than implied that Santiago was in a similar position to what DiPierro now is too which doesn't make it any better. Bobby Cannavale is awesome though.

Martin Nicholls

I assume you're referring to the episode that won them heaps of awards? Rami in particular? Hell yeah, looking forward to that one! (I thought he won a Emmy for that episode but I got the dates wrong)

Dustywood

Same here, I first joined for Better Call Saul after seeing them pop up in my recommendations, after the series ended I saw Mr. Robot losing in the polls for the votes for the next show and I was super sad - it kept losing in the community votes for next series. Then one day, Adam (that frequently comments here too) found me on a random YouTube comment (on something entirely non LM related) and told me they're starting Mr. Robot - instantly resubbed for it. This show is stellar, absolutely stellar.

Dustywood

IT'S CHRISTMAS TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Dustywood

Sorry for double comment, but my god Vera gets the best lines of the show imo. "My sister, only the north stars of the Cosmos can help a visionary like me" - damnnnnnnnnnn that line hits

Dustywood

Perfect way to summarize it, I haven't seen any other show master the intercut as well as Mr. Robot - especially when Angela's side story is so different to what was happening in that Barn and yet both of them hold up the anticipation / pressure / climax - it's fucking good! Andor worth checking out? I haven't heard of that show before

Dustywood

I didn't mention in my comment because it was already too long, but IMO this show is the master of the "intercut" (idk the technical term) where you cut 2 or more streams of action against each other, almost like a montage. It does it so well, especially in this episode. It's beautiful when done well, I think the only other show I've seen do it so well is Andor

Kara

This is the one show that can successfully transition between two different scenes during the peak of it's climax, switching back and forth between the Barn & Angela's side story was done SO beautifully. Usually shows just focus on one scene at a time, I just love it.

Dustywood

Yeah, I'm really hoping it'll win on the next poll or else it will just get chosen, I'd love for them to watch Black Sails.

cosmotron

Damn I loved Irving's way of giving someone an initiation to the Dark Army, just absolutely psychopathic and beautiful at the same time. These ladies are in for a treat for S4

Dustywood

"It's time to talk"

Dustywood

He's so gooooood though, I was excited when I saw Vera return - absolutely love that character / the actor.

Dustywood

Great reaction to what is probably my favorite episode of the series. All my next favorite are from season 4. You're in for a ride.

Zeiss

Yeah, I hadn't considered that angle. For someone who works inside such an institutional pillar, to have that pillar tainted at such a level is gamechanging.

Isaac

Real & True

Isaac

Yeah, I knew you clocked it about Price, but you didn't say so!! Chicken :P To be honest with you, I don't find S4 to be bingeable. When I rewatch, I find myself needing to stop and digest. You got this

What an incredible season finale. Stunning episode, stunning reaction. It's hard to know where to start here, and what to focus on. I guess it's worth saying that Irving's whole interaction with Dom has been stuck in my brain since I first saw it. I will never forget "DOM, I'M GONNA NEED VERBAL CONFIRMATION THAT YOU'RE GRASPING THE DETAILS OF THIS AGREEMENT". It's psychopathic and perfunctory. The ending sequence of the episode is a masterpiece. I should have guessed that Lola would recognise the M83 track based off her earlier recognition of songs lol. They show a clip on the TVs in the show from the Christopher Reeves Superman movie where Superman flies around the planet Earth to turn back time. I've watched the sequence a bunch on YouTube and there's this comment I think is worth sharing from "Taresh Patel": "The scene is so cathartic. Imagine being so blindingly determined to do something, and then being in denial that you made the wrong choice. After finally accepting he made a mistake, he finds he has a chance to fix his mistake, and the fix had come from a part of himself all along. And in the moment he has the email in front of him, it’s like he has the power of god in his hands. The power this guy wields is incredible at points in this show, he is like a superman." I think about this comment a lot. It's hard not to mourn a great show as you reach what you know is its final season so I'd just say, enjoy it while it lasts, because its rare a show has such a great and satisfying journey all the way through.

Kara

That is… pretty much exactly how I would describe the start of season 4. It… definitely happens. It really is a wild ride, all the way to the end.

RocktSurgeon

When I saw Fernando Vera in the end credits scene I was honestly pissed. I thought "why do we have to endure another side story with this asshole." I should have had faith in Sam Esmail.

Slaizio

A smaller thing I think about is that, as soon as You (a mid-level loyal FBI agent) accept that your boss (a managerial level FBI agent) is a Dark Army Agent, you've basically broken your brain and understanding of reality. As soon as you believe that Dark Army infiltrated FBI, it's over, you have to completely rethink every aspect of your reality because it's so unthinkable. Like Dom is smart but it takes more than that you internalize something which literally shatters your reality as an FBI agent

Kara

well i'm tired as hell so the 40 min discussion will have to wait for tomorrow. but damn, what an episode. probably one of the most intense for me on this show. i was sure dom was not going to die but i still got a bit worried ngl. i mean... i love darlene but fuck, she really did fuck dom's life completely. not sure if this is a ship that could have a happy ending because dom just had to throw her morals out of the window and swallow her pride just to keep her family safe because darlene used her. irving is creepy as fuck. i mean, he's an interest character for sure, but i really didn't need to see him chopping santiago like that. speaking of santiago, i do feel bad for him. knowing how they got to dom i'm sure they had him working for them by threatening his mom and the rest of his family. white rose is not seeing heaven omg, i need someone to shoot her in the face asap. i am scare for what they're going to make dom do next season. well, i was right after all. i've been suspecting about price being angela's biological father for more than a season i think. feels good to at least get one thing right. surprised angela survived the season. i hope she does not die but i still believe she will pretty soon. i also suspected about elliot jumping pretty much since the beginning. now we just need to see if mr alderson was abusive or not. well, at least we know he was a shitty dad for darlene. well, the hack is undone and i believe shit is about to hit the fan big time. still cannot believe i have had the patience to only watch this twice a week along with the full. i want to binge season 4 so bad 😢

sand_fl

Are we ready for the massive Sam Esmail flex that is s4? (and some truly epic acting) :)

Martin Nicholls

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9foCI43HWEQ - the lyrics are great.

Martin Nicholls

that m83 song at the end gives me chills, the show really knows when to incorporate them

Sebastian

god fucking speed.

Myeh

It's pretty amazing they managed to top this season in season 4. Imo season 4 is up there with the likes of breaking bad season 4/5 as one of the greatest seasons of TV ever. Every episode is at least 8/10.

Aaron Morris

ohhh

as people who watched 401 today, yeah… it really.. started

Isaac

Agreed. I swear, I've been getting my way so much with their show picks. Black Sails was the next highest on the Mr Robot poll, so hopefully the lucky streak continues!

Isaac

Santiago reminds me way too much of Markus from Arcane now that I'm thinking about it haha

Myeh

On Dom constantly missing the Santiago angle: Until he sold out, he was likely a very important mentor to her. We are almost always given the full picture on how shady Santiago is acting and we've seen him murder an officer. We're not really dialed into who he is/was as a person because we've appropriately written him off as a scumbag. From his conversations with his mother and what we can infer from the Dark Army's recruitment method, this probably seemed like the craziest theory to Dom. She was so bright figuring out the 5/9 case, but Santiago was her blindspot.

Isaac

We’ve got a pretty damn good community here with fantastic taste. I wouldn’t be surprised if Black Sails won a poll here where with most reaction channels it wouldn’t have a chance

Dante

Can’t wait to see you react to one episode in particular in season 4 (my favorite ep)

JATLA

This is for sure one of my favorite episodes of the series, the editing between the scenes at the barn and outside are incredibly done. Angela breaking down is sad but cathartic as her denial finally gives way. Irving gets to let his inner Lalo show, and the final scene with M83 is similarly emotional af. Honestly a really good season finale imo. And Vera is back, for some reason lol! Same. I joined for the tail end of The Expanse and never in a million years did I think Mr Robot would win the poll, especially by such a margin. It's really been a great time

Kara

Let's goooo! I was quietly hoping this would get posted early-ish. Time to wrap S3!

Kara

i'm really tired but i also want to watch the finale so bad https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/039/399/ddw.jpg

sand_fl

Time for the finale! I'm really excited for your reaction to season 4. It's my favorite season.

Slaizio

This needs to be said: SEASON 4 DOES NOT FUCK AROUND

wrnrbro

It does feel like you cut through it really quickly! 2 years ago, I would never have believed you both would watch my favorite show :D
