Because it doesn't solve anything, none of the problems the police face now result from lack of money. It's a systemic focus on padding stats and not doing police work outside of beating on corner boys so boosting funding won't achieve anything but waste the money that could go somewhere else. Whereas the school is constantly forced to prioritize teaching the tests and having kids skip grades they missed because they don't have enough funding

Richard O'Hanlon

“He’s just a kid”.

Thomas Fahey

I don't understand the sarcastic comment. You don't want more money for the police? Why?

fdEA

Kenard was also the kid pouring lighter fluid on a cat in an episode from an earlier season. I don't recall the exact episode, but when the other kids ran away as grownups ran past, he kept on calmly dowsing the cat-- a true psychopath-in-the-making. He returns in a dramatic scene in a store in season five.

Steve Samson

Did they in 2006?

Brendan

Facts.

M Salam

whats preachy about it

jehh jeggg

Great to see you get into them! Hope to see you stick around once The Wire is done

TeaDrinker3000

seriously, they are so goated

Karabo

Funny thing is Ruth Chris Steak House actually does have burgers and fries.

Klein Santana

Kenard was one of the kids Bunk saw imitating Omar after the shootout in the street when Omar's girl got killed. "Yo, it's my turn to be Omar"

Klein Santana

They're the best reactors I've seen to this show and it's great experiencing it again through their eyes. I didn't used to listen to their analysis because I didn't really have time but towards the end of S2 I was curious why their videos were so long and started listening to their reviews and they were insightful, curious and often "spot on". And the show impacts them in an emotional way too - even the small moments like Avon understanding why Cutty had to leave the game - so it makes watching their reactions a whole lot more interesting.

Chidi.

Yup. I made a big post on the video for 4x01 about how no one else can do it like our girls 👌

TeaDrinker3000

Are you addicted to these episodes/reactions too Chidi? 😅😁

TeaDrinker3000

You predicted early on that Michael would seek help from Marlo/Chris for his sitiuation - even before Chris approached him with an offer. Well done. Excellent final scene. The only person with dialogue is Mike as he sells his soul. Dukie and Mike exchange glances; and Marlo just listens. The final four episodes are outstanding - consecutive brilliance - looking forward to seeing how you analyse and react.

Chidi.

XD ''genocide''. Didn't know killing babies was being ''on the right side''.

"We are building something here detective. ALL THE PIECES MATTER"- Lester Freeman. Describes the show perfectly

Karabo

I don't follow them on Twitter and I know for a FACT that they are on the right side of what's happening right now. Their human empathy will not allow them to cheer on genocide

Karabo

Bro!!!!!!!!!

Karabo

I honestly view Chris and Snoop as the Ferrymen that carry you to the afterlife. Chris' calm demeanor and talking his victims through accepting the idea of their death always fed into this idea for me.

Karabo

Lol my inner sadist laughed. Eish

Karabo

I love bringing back Ziggy and the whole "How come they don't fly away" idea and tying it back to Andre. I never thought about the tragedy of Andre not being able to escape Baltimore. It just seemed like a joke that his idea of escaping was going to East Baltimore but he is literally trapped and can't get out, like everyone else. Tragic

Karabo

just to confirm kenard was one of the kids playing and re-enacting the stash house shootout between omars crew and barksdales soldiers in s3e3. (the one where tosha got killed).

Sebastian

Nine? "Nah, too much buck, probably a .40 cal"

Chidi.

Another very on-the-nose episode, not my favourite. Some excellent scenes that were very human in amongst the preachiness, though. Definitely not enough to tarnish all the good stuff.

Aj

Camera angle improved.👍

Orr Malus

Hard agree, makes the show much more interesting and shows how much power he has that even smaller unintentional mistakes have such an impact

space colon

Gunshots !! ….Oh wait…Nah it’s just Milena cracking her knuckles again 😂

David

It sure is... hardly surprising, though

Aj

I always appreciated how Herc is not as cruel as some of the other police, but his negligence can be even more damaging than direct violence. He is simply selfish and careless in a job where that isn't acceptable.

Doug

The silent "crossroads" scene with Michael accompanied by Dukie on the way to Marlo is absolutely perfect.

Kevin Donaldson

There's honestly nothing wrong with season 5 that couldn't be solved by giving it a full 13 episodes. My main issue was that plot developments felt rushed, and the short, 10 episode order was to blame for that.

Mike Conlin

I also love season 5 although probably not as much as 3&4. It's somewhat similar to season 2 I think in that it has a bit of a different vibe which put people off on initial viewings. I think over time season 5 has gotten more recognition for what it does as has 2 edit to say that I think unfortunately where I do have an issue with season 5 is a certain character who I think breaks the mold of all other characters in this show living in the grey and instead at least imo is basically irredeemable and gets away with stuff that I don't think they would irl. Just seemed to me David Simon had maybe too much of a bias having worked in the newsroom.

Max Carter

Honestly, it's why I love Season 5 so much, even though it gets less love than the other seasons. Hopefully the girls will see what I see in it 😭

TeaDrinker3000

Another perfect if not particularly cheerful episode. The thing I find so brilliant in this season is how EVERYTHING matters. A classic example of domino story telling where every tiny action leads to the next. As these last few episodes play out it's amazing to see what decisions made earlier in the season lead to. Won't be easy watching but it is in my opinion essential viewing and among the greatest stories ever put on screen

Max Carter

I’m glad Herc is so central this season, it’s important to show how much one bad sergeant can negatively impact a community My teachers merged classes in middle school and Highschool, had all teachers teach English and math from previous state tests One of the saddest scenes in the show for me was Bunny taking the kids out to the nice restaurant. They can’t feel in place or be themselves, breaks my damn heart in this part of society that they’ve never seen

space colon

Damn, just when I thought I couldn’t appreciate their values anymore. Have been scared to look at people’s Twitter feeds lately, feels so validating to see people who are actually sane @Mahni Alizadeh I’m really happy you could see that

space colon

I hope it isn't crossing a personal line to say this, but the girls truly seem like good people in real life and I've no doubt that they'd be the best parents a child could ever wish to have, for their unfaltering empathy and genuine selflessness. Again I'm sorry if that's too forward and parasocial as fuck to say, but all the same, the sense of love and protectiveness that just naturally emanates from the girls is invaluable, both for the reaction series and life itself, to be quite honest.

TeaDrinker3000

Ladies, after seeing your Twitter feed earlier today, and as an Iranian living in the United States, I am happy to say I am so proud to be one of your biggest fans. You two are everything that is right in this world. You deserve every ounce of the support you get. Thank you.

Mahni Alizadeh

It's become customary on each Wire upload to muse on how depressing of a show this is for the girls but honestly, this episode in particular really illustrates how unbelievably heavy the series is. Milena articulates it very well in the intro, how rather than them being in floods of tears, season 4 just leaves you exhausted. The lack of catharsis is all the more moving because there's no release, just suspension of the tragedy.

TeaDrinker3000

Nahhh, The Wire teaches you something about the world and it teaches you deep. The pain is worth it. Should be mandatory viewing for everyone

ErdTirdMans

Watching their reactions and predictions is making me really appreciate the plotting of this show, how the storylines build up. It's not something I normally think about. This season is a lot easier to watch when you know what's going to happen, and you can really appreciate the layers and how well it all comes together.

Mark M

Milena: "I feel like your episode is going to be easier to edit than mine." "Lbh qvqa'g rira jnvg gb trg gur zbgureshpxre va gur ubhfr!"

Chidi.

Oh boy...

HenryM

Slim Charon

Nina

There's a lot I want to say but it's all spoilers so I'll just say I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, great reaction and discussion as always.

Nina

"Prop Joe said YOU was my escort out!" "Manner of speaking, that be true." Such a cold line lmao

Jay Craig

You both seemed so sad at the end of your outro! But thanks for powering through.

Joe Gaspard

Lola is editing the final two episodes... 👀 If I speak...

Chidi.

(first ten seconds) they get it

Derek Suboticki

Honestly, being part of the LM Fam for The Wire is just pure sadism at this point...

TeaDrinker3000

Oh man. Looks like you're going through it in that thumbnail....

Chidi.

Can’t watch yet, I’m still at work but all I see is the thumbnail of you ladies being absolutely destroyed and all I can say is I’m sorry we forced this on you guys, but we wanted you to share our pain.
