saying killua deserves better than gon is more discrediting to killua’s character than to gon’s imho.

But now I can say Gon is my favorite character because his character development is one of the best written and Gon is just simply just a sweetheart who genuinely wants world peace.

Some take that quote much more seriously than others (to a philosophical point) but the attitude seems to be a cultural touchstone. You have to remember Nobunaga wanted to invite Gon to the troupe solely because he liked the kid. Nobunaga and Machi also argued over Chrollo’s intention as to whether he wanted to kill or invite Kurapika, which got decided by a coin toss between the two. It’s a rather wild and hardcore system, but I guess it works for Meteor City.
