I know everyone loves Bubs, but he always thinks he's gonna be some kind of mentor.

Yes The Corner is less known than the Wire but it's also a top quality show

Juliette

As a break from how bleak this and the next episode are, here's Method Man (Cheese) rapping over the Super Mario World soundtrack https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJEJ3QoD/

would you two be interested in watching the show "the corner" after the wire. its kind of like the prequal to the wire with a lot of the same actors. its a mini series and unfortunately just as sad lol

Krissito

TeaDrinker3000

I hate watch too xD Sadly tho more Americans than ever want Political Violence https://www.npr.org/2023/10/25/1208373493/political-violence-democracy-2024-presidential-election-extremism#:~:text=While%20Americans%20across%20the%20political,of%20Democrats%2C%20the%20survey%20found.

I hate-watched the first Republican presidential debate to laugh at the absurdity of all the candidates. The scariest element was definitely how unified all of the nutjobs were on attacking public schools. I can believe that Republicans would want to do destroy public schools, I just can't believe they are openly campaigning on it like it will win over voters.

The real problem in American schools, especially American universities, is the radicalization of students by terrorist supporting professors. Any comment on that, Space1999?

Any day now.

Still waiting...

Top 5 television episodes of all time.

Wasn't expecting the upload this early, I'm gonna wait an hour or two before watching because honestly I have to sike myself up. God, I love this show so much but this episode and the next one break my heart. One shot from the the next episode has been etched onto my eyelids since first viewing and will stay with me forever.

Sadly it gets worse, there’s a bill being proposed in Florida that will prevent students or teachers from talking about MENSTRUATION https://www.alligator.org/article/2023/07/desantis-k-12-health-education Texas, Florida, Alabama and a few other states have passed (or attempted to pass) legislation that will no longer require public schools to teach about Women’s Suffrage or the Civil Right’s Movement (They’ve also banned hundreds of books about women’s, women’s rights, PoC rights, queer books etc… textbook Fascism) I’ve talked to friends in Eastern Europe about the EU’s focus on education rights, I think one advantage a lot of Europeans have is the lack of private colleges that drive students to such high debt

The war that the right wing is waging on American education scares me almost as much as their war on democracy. By destroying public education like this they're entrenching wealth inequality even further, reverting a century of positive social changes to back when public education wasn't even a thing for most Americans. Watching all happen in broad daylight over here in Europe makes me hope we can avoid the same pitfalls, as it's not only terrifying but heartbreaking knowing just how many children are going to be let down because of these nut jobs.

Randy’s home and foster mother being burned always destroys me (especially his words to Carver). Something similar happened during the filming of the show before this episode The Dawson family (7 people) was burned to death when their house was set on fire after it was leaked that they were informants https://www.wbaltv.com/amp/article/dawson-family-baltimore-firebombing-firefighters-2002/41627110 The house was rebuilt and reopened as a safe haven community center

The situation with the budget deficit is terrifying The Education Law Center put out a report last year that my state (North Carolina) is ranked last in school funding proportional to state budget AND in per pupil spending The state is giving MORE money to private and charter schools (overriding the department of public education). Poor kids and black and brown kids are thrown under the bus yet again (We're also facing a teacher shortage worse than most states https://www.wunc.org/education/2023-09-14/nc-state-budget-school-teacher-vacancies-understaffed-ncae Also teachers with Masters degrees AREN’T gonna be paid more here so they'll leave to other states https://www.wunc.org/education/2023-09-20/2023-state-budget-schools-teachers-private-school-vouchers?_amp=true
