Once my friends chased me with knives then I got mad and chased them and they hid and I broke the door they were hiding behind. Pretty similar to lolas story. We went to buy a new door so he wouldn't get in trouble for breaking a door but we couldn't afford it so we just bought wallpaper that looked like wood and covered the broken part. It's literally just down to how they're presented in the show. We only hear about Ging through third parties, whatever good things we hear about is overshadowed by his absence. Whereas we got to spend time with the Troupe and saw their personalities firsthand. It's much easier to care about characters when you spend time with them.

It's complicated and nuanced. Even more so when the ideas of existence and spirituality are so hidden and present. "Good" morality in HxH is usually portrayed as people required to take leaps of faith, especially for people they are opposed to. The anime is also surprisingly very non judgmental on a lot of things, whilst keeping it grounded by raw genuine emotion. Ging and his ideals are just part of a bigger tapestry in the story and no fault of his can deny that. Gut feelings are fallible and especially human judgment. I think the show actually does a pretty good job of letting you feel both sides of something. It expects you to like and dislike something, sometimes at the same time. It's a unique experience, all things considered. Very human.

I get it but they haven’t met Ging, like just bc some characters speak highly of him doesn’t really change the fact that the only impact he’s actually had on the show is his effect on the 12 year old he abandoned. Since they haven’t actually seen any of his good qualities or how they’ve affected the world around him, it’s natural to just not like him at the moment. There’s been no inner monologue or personal conflict. All they know is he abandoned the main character, a kid they love, and that some adults respect his work. Not gonna really endear you to someone if that’s all you have to go on

Nobody is defending the fact that Ging is a bad father but there is a HUGE difference between being an absent father and being a goddamn psychopath who massacres villages. The way they talk about Ging you would think he was the latter 😂

As a "Ging defender" let me just say I don't care if they dislike him or think he's an asshole I just think he's OVERhated, like on episode 60 another channel called him a bum and were negative about the message he left Gon which is fine, as opposed to saying I would find Ging and murder him on the spot, I wish I could shoot him, he's a narcissist, "fuck you" x 3, etc.

Ging himself says he's a bad person for abandoning Gon so I misspoke when I said that he's "good" I think I overcompensated just due to the abundance of hate they give him lol. It's more like evil vs heavily flawed but the majority of his actions in the world have been shown to be good outside of being a deadbeat

It kinda seems like in stories they just prefer evil people with one good quality over good people with one bad quality. Like in a fight to the death they'd root for a phantom troupe member who've tortured and killed men, women and children (but they care about each other) over Ging who goes across the world doing philanthropic work, destroyed an infamous group of bandits and saved a species from extinction (but he's a bad father)

The insane hype and excitement followed by "I didn't understand anything" is why I always say people saying "the OP spoils" are just straight up wrong. The OP does what it's supposed to, gets you excited and intrigued. You're always going to go into a story knowing roughly what it's about, and what kind of tone it will have.

I think what makes matters worse is that Ging is damn near always right. Consistently correct and an atypical morality make for a incredibly hard person to deal with. He changed his friend's name and apparently his friend had better luck with the new name. How do you even begin to approach that? That's just not fair. Every result has justified his actions, but yet he's intelligent enough to acknowledge he's a bad person. Like what can we say that he doesn't already know? Unpinnable in every aspect.

I actually fucking can't with how Killua looks at Gon. The amount of love that boy has for him is so bloody beautiful considering his upbringing. My favourite show is Avatar and I love Ed & Al to pieces, but no other fictional relationship tugs at my heartstrings more than these two.

This arc is probably the greatest attempt by mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi to reach our viewers/readers heart, it is a long arc, with what many consider drag, but it is also a very beautiful and human story that shines like few do, many say it is overhyped and I will not argue against it or for that particular opinion, I do not say every arc should be like this, but I do say more arcs should be written with such effort and dept. I watched this arc unfold in its original run back in 2013-2014 and I did not know what I was getting myself into. Suffer the drag, but enjoy, because at the end I sincerely believe you will ultimately enjoy the experience, so let there be more arcs such as this one, cheers girls!

Not sure if you know this, but the 2011 anime changed Kite’s role. In the manga, he was the very first character introduced, and Gon never forgot him. In fact, the whole reason Gon became a Hunter was because Kite told him about his dad.
