Well when we first see them together Kima is studying for her law class. Presumably her studies were interrupted by her long hospital stay. Given that her partner has actively let her displeasure known about Kima being a cop continually and that we early on see Kima preparing for another career it’s easy to deduce that Kima has agreed to a timetable of only being on the streets for so long.

@Luis Kima is clearly unhappy with this arrangement? She's visibly annoyed and bored being stuck at a desk this episode. There's been no indication leading up to this episode that they had such an arrangement.

Why would you make that assumption when we have evidence that it happened the way Robbe is saying directly from Kima. You want it to be way but its the other way.

Prez shouldn't have done what he did, clearly, but I have no sympathy for the kid, tbh.

We don’t know the relationship that well. It could be that Kima early on said that she eventually wanted to pursue law and that being a cop was just for the moment.

I was very curious to see what your reaction to Ziggy would be. He's quite abrasive, but James Ransome does such a great job of showing his vulnerability.

I think you can forgive without forgetting, and that's an important distinction. I can forgive Prez but I won't ever forget what he did, and neither should he or anybody else.

As I mentioned before, I don't think I can ever truly 'forgive' Prez, it's hard to be as forgiving when the kid has lost an eye, but I can "move on" with it so to speak...

Man, the Kima story here is so rage inducing. You knew what she did for a living before you got together with her, you have zero right to complain, much less demand that she stops doing what makes her happy.

I put that pistol whip down to him trying to fit in, trying to be something he's not. Carv and Herc looked at him like 'wth are you doing?' Because since he was trying to fit in, act all hardass, he didn't understand the boundaries that they did (the boundaries of their own dumb us vs them world). I blame cop culture more than I blame Prez, although it doesn't mean he's owed any forgiveness for the decisions he made that night.

Woah. The Wire Season Two. Honestly, we didn't deserve such a masterpiece of a season.

Prez also said that he shot up his police car potentially on purpose to sabotage his career as a cop. So, it wasn't incompetence per se, as much as frustration with his situation. Smacking the kid in the eye was still hella wrong though.

I know I was one that commented on season 2 possibly weird initially (because of a lot of new characters) but you two figured it out immediately and I think you'll love this season. Once you understand that each season focuses on something else while bringing back beloved characters you get The Wire. Season 2 is one that I've loved more and more as time passes.
Frank Sobotka is one of my favorite characters of the series.

In fact, this was the most watched season when it aired. The creators believe it’s because it was more easy to digest for the white audience.

I didn't get a negative first impression of the season. I actually loved it. I just was infuriated by Ziggy. That actor does such a good job that I actually looked him up for this comment: James Ransone.

That’s really interesting to hear, I know by season 5 ratings were overall in decline by a large margin.
I guess this is common with sequels of any kind, people being put off by sweeping changes and a sudden increase in characters and exposition. Glad most fans can appreciate the effort put into the writing and how it ties into every other season

Bodie searching the car also has a little bit of a callback to Herc and Carver taking the car apart in season 1 trying to find the money, even has the 'There's no way anyone is gonna believe us if we tell them' angle too

By the end of season 2 and on reflection, its an amazing season. But initially it is very much "hey where is everybody" but you have to trust the show.

Great catch fr, love whenever we see the incompetence of law enforcement and other established organizations paralleled with the incompetence or sometimes contrasted with the competence of the characters who commit crime

Strangely enough, season 2 actually had the highest viewership out of all the seasons on original release. Some people suspect that this was due to this season involving a lot more white characters so it didn't seem like a show about just Black people anymore.
I do love that it almost seems universal that no matter how people feel about season 2, everyone I've talked to seems to like it more when they watch it a second time.

The actor who plays Frank Sobotka (Chris Bauer) has had appearances on a bunch of different shows, but he had a big role on True Blood which I'd guess is where you recognize him from.

Just to clarify. No one got rid of the Gant evidence. That scene was just to show that the Baltimore police department is incompetent and misplaced it. Also, the show juxtaposed the police looking for evidence with Bodie looking for the lost package.

Just to help make sense of confusing stuff in the episode, I know it goes by fast. Everything I’m saying below was said in the episode
Why are the dock workers so concerned right now?
The city is choosing to put funds into supporting reconstruction of the Baltimore grain pier. What Frank (the head of the dock worker’s union) wants is for them to put funds into digging the canal 3 feet deeper so bigger ships can come in and bring more cargo. Valchek (Prez’s father in law and Major in the police department) mentions in the episode that the dock workers are barely making enough to pay their bills
Building the grain pier would create tons of job and in general is more realistic and less expensive than making the canal deeper
What were the dock workers talking about at the bar?
The dock workers in the bar were joking around talking about their long history working the Baltimore docks with limited equipment. Like a lot of cities with large numbers of blue collar workers the Baltimore docks have a strong culture of black and Polish Americans who have worked the docks generations back. Valchek is also Polish and wanted to put his mural in the church window honoring generations of polish cops but Frank Sobatka had already put in the mural honoring generations of polish dock workers
What is Frank doing talking to the Greeks?
You guys followed, he’s getting extra money from them to smuggle “packages” in for them
What was going on with Stringer and Bodie this episode?
Yeah you guys totally got this, Stringer was testing Bodie to see if he could follow instructions and show that he won’t lie. They allude to the idea of it being a hazing process they’ve done before.

I would have bet money on that being the thumbnail. Such a shocking way to kick off the new storyline. A lot of people say that this season takes a while to get going, but I was hooked right from the end of this episode.

Oh boy, I'm so hyped for this season given how much you were invested in Season 1. It's a pity Season 2 was somewhat snubbed on its original release (new characters, slower paced, different setting etc.) as it's gone on to be a fan favourite. I'm very interested to see what you guys are gonna make of this season once you get to the end!
