Hi! I'm so happy you are watching Haikyuu! You are going to love it.
I've been following you since The 100, (no one shared my pain about bellarke like you did), so I am so excited you are watching my favorite anime.
This is such an amazing story, it has incredible themes and teachings, but most important, I do think this a love story.
A love story with Volleybal.
Lola, get ready, you are going to end up playing Volleyball again before finishing this series; you already love the sport, you wont be able to resit; even if it's just passing the ball with friends, or going to a local comunity gym and searching for a Team.
I cant wait for Milena to also fall in love with this sport.
I think that's one of the things that really distinguishes this anime with other sports anime; when Furudate (a horror mangaka before writing this) decided to write this story, he/(they) did not did it because they wanted to do a sports manga.
Furudate played Voleyball in middle school and high school, and he loved this sport, he adored it.
And he wanted to share that love. I think you'll able to see the amount of care that is in every single detail.
He just wanted to prove to the world how cool, how interesting, and how fun Volleyball is.

Good Timeline because Haikyuu won. Monster is coming next so there's no worry on that end, and the girls get to watch the show they personally wanted to watch the most. Of course our voices matter thanks to them being so nice but end of the day I wanted them to watch the one they are most excited for first.

Yes of course. Slam Dunk it's also my other favorite sport anime from all times. When I was a child the reason I was interested at first in basketball was Slam Dunk. Before Slam Dunk I was interested only in soccer. The movie The First Slam Dunk was also awesome even after so many years. I was really hyped and I cried while watching that movie. It was fulfilling.
Takehiko Inoue it's GOAT. Also Vagabond and Real are in my top Mangas.

the power of anime, man, you know that slam dunk, a popular 90s sports manga completely saved basketball in all of japan? no one was interested in it at all over there, people who wanted to play didn't find the support, but slam dunk blew up and everything changed.

Volleyball was a sport I really hated when I was in high school because I wanted to play soccer or basketball, but usually, volleyball was the only sport available in PE at my school and for me that was really frustrating. I never played an official game, just PE practice, so I never cared about the rules. But thanks to Haikyuu, I now have more appreciation for volleyball as a sport, and it has really changed my perspective. I've made my peace with volleyball. Haikyuu even has increased the popularity of volleyball at Japan schools and worldwide increasing the numbers of new players.
