I've always appreciated JJ's character and never made the Lip connection but that's a really solid parallel!! I like the element of JJ's character that, like Lip, he's driven by survival mostly, but JJ also does make solid attempts/choices that steer towards benefiting his found family with the Pogues (even if they don't see it that way initially). Even his chaotic choices are coming from a place of wanting to protect or provide for John B, Pope and Kie.

It's like Lip from Shameless (US), he's super smart but his circumstances of growing up in poverty has led him to self-sabotage a lot. JJ has everything working against him, people pretty much decided he's a waste which is how society looks at poor people.
