P.S. with subtitles (esp on Netflix), make sure you are set to English SUBTITLES, & not English CC. You have to go to language settings & manually set it to SUBTITLES (instead of CC). It is because CC is the CLOSED CAPTIONING for the deaf/hearing impaired, which means it is the written version of the English DUBBING (which is not the exact translation of what the Korean actors are saying. It is sometimes different bc they vary it sometimes so it matches the actors' mouths & sometimes change it so it is more relatable in Enlish.) SUBTITLES is the translation of the Korean dialogue being spoken. (This actually was a big issue in Squid Games.) Always turn to SUBTITLES not CC when watching Kdramas on Netflix! ;)

In S Korea, turning yourself in & confessing matters immensely and reduces your sentence. The judge, who seems like a biased jerk but turned out to be wise, used what he can to reduce her sentence since Young-woo probably did impact him emotionally with sharing about what a good mother the defendant is. P.S. the whole "family origin" thing is a real thing in Korea - there are only a few surnames (i.e. Kims) but it doesn't mean they're all related; what matters is the origin of the name (i.e. Kims from one region are not related to the Kims from a different region). Korean people try to identify people by their origin & often associate some personality traits to them & also build relationships through familiar/friendly origins.
