Extraodinary Attorney Woo Episode 9 Early Access/Full Watchalong!!

It's not just that school. In S Korea (& to be very honest, with some Korean-American kids here in USA - trust me, I speak from experience), many kids (esp those of rich families who can afford it) go to "academies" immediately after the regular school day ends (that's why there was a school bus waiting to pick them all up right after school.) The pressure & demand to go to college (which is all dependent on the national college entrance exam) is so high, so many kids study all day & night. & it is the norm. As you can see in the ep, their parents are the ones who are putting them in those academies & putting their studies as the top priority (not play or childhood). No wonder the suicide rate in S Korea esp with teenagers is so high.

yes this episode actually depicts a pretty accurate picture for the korean education system. the lady in the store was worried because south korea has the highest suicide rate in the world between the ages of 13-25. and that’s because of the immense amount of pressure society and parents put on students and young kids to do good in school and be the top student in the school. they spend virtually their whole 24 hour days either in class, at academies like the one in this episode, or at study cafes. it’s really hard on kids.
