Hey, Miss CJ! This is one of my favorite books, too! I'm guessing it's an acquired taste for most teens. I read this in the 90s as a tween and loved it, but I also didn't have TV. :) I definitely related to Elizabeth's rebellious spirit, and her struggle to maintain autonomy over her life in a society that didn't give women many options - especially poor women. I grew up poor and felt the tug between responsibility toward my family and a desire for freedom. Austen's happy endings were always a welcome escape. And they're so fucking funny, though some might need a dictionary a few times. This film is among my favorite adaptations of Austen's books. It's just beautifully shot, with natural backdrops and a musical score that feel like their own characters.

It's definitely an acquired taste. I first attempted to read this book when I was 14 and to be honest, I didn't understand anything about it, gave up midway because the language they used was very strange to me, and I didn't really know anything about this era's society. And then a few years later, I had a period where I was reading A LOT, and when I got to the bookstore, I found that beautiful copy of Pride & Prejudice, hard covered, green and gold and I just wanted to buy it because it was the most beautiful book i'd ever seen. And holding it felt amazing. I'm not crazy I swear lol. But I decided to give this book another shot, and I fell in love with the story. The more I read it, the more I understood all the nuances and subtleties. And the audiobook is great too.

I definitely don't mean to talk down too much on your favorite book xD it's been a while since I read it so maybe I should give it another shot. I couldn't finish the movie hahaha. and I remember barely finishing the book as well 😅 just not really a romance person also, to be fair, not just this specific movie/book

I maintain, the book is far better XD But I can see why the movie might not appeal to everyone.

Whaaat?! No way! I've read the book so many times. I would actually recommend the audiobook read by Rosamund Pyke. She does such a fantastic job with the narration. The more you read it, the more you can appreciate it. It's my favorite book of all time xD
