The Truman Show (1998) - Movie Night Reaction #57 *2-WEEK* EARLY ACCESS

It has a similar vibe, though not as dark, but please consider Pleasantville!

Not even gonna lie here but as soon as I saw that, “The Truman Show” was up for early access on here on your YT posts, I knew that it was about damn time (any Lizzo fans in the building? xD) I had to become a patron member of this community and after just watching the commentary, I really wish I had become a patron earlier.😊 Anywho, absolutely LOVED your reaction/commentary as always and I’m just so, so happy y’all ended up watching this masterpiece! 🙌 Much love to all three of you.💙

Looks like this was a solid start to the new way you guys are doing the polling! I had seen parts of this and knew the premise, but had never sat down and watched the whole thing, so it was fun to do that with you guys. Glad you enjoyed it! Can't wait to see what options you pick next time!

this was the first movie I saw Jim Carrey playing a serious role (still haven't seen eternal sunshine of the spotless mind) and you're so right he's also so good in this genre as well. I grew up watching his comedic parts and they're obviously iconic but this movie did stay with me for a while bc of how much it blew my mind.

Perfectly said! You can see that he truly see Truman as his son, they way he brushes the screen really shows that and you can see how nervous he was when talking to him for the very first time.

Omg I got so excited when I heard rob hasn’t seen this yet 😭😭🫶🏼

Her is amazing! One of my all-time favorites

Incredible how well this movie predicted reality TV culture and viewing habits before the craze had really taken over American television. It’s also a great movie because it raises so many moral and ethical questions along with its entertainment value. Brilliant movie. Also the first time out of many that the Oscars snubbed Carrey’s excellent dramatic work. Jerks.

Kristoff is such a compelling antagonist because even though he’s methods are cruel as viewer you can understand how he believes he’s protecting Truman from the horrors of the real world by giving him a world where everything is perfect. Like a helicopter parent. The problem lies in that he never considered giving Truman the choice and now he’s unprepared for the real world

This really is such a great film, and was fun to rewatch with you guys. I agree that Jim Carrey has so much range. This movie definitely set the stage for the movies/shows like this after…it’s classic. Also, the White Bear episode of Black Mirror that Bryce referenced is definitely a favorite for me as well!

I’m so glad y’all liked the movie! It’s truly on my top favorites list, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is a must watch I hope y’all do it in the future! I highly recommend Donnie Darko, Her, and Shutter Island also some of my all time favs! You guys would loveee Spike Jonze film Her if you haven’t seen it already :)

To be honest I kind of feel for Marlon too only because he reveals that he's been friends with Truman since he was 7 years old, so he was forced to play a character since he was a kid too. Brainwashed and all kinds of fucked up. Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind! Yessssss
