I agree with emily, that's another good point about her character besides her relationship with her mother. I think young teachers have high expectations and they go into a job trying to save the world but older teachers have a bit more of an idea about how things are. It's sad and there's nothing wrong with trying to fix issues but yeah.

This episode though I felt bad because she clearly has some issues from her bad relationship with her mother. HEaling our inner child is a really important thing to do and I don't think Janine made it there yet. When you think about it, Janine's need to succeed and overperform is part of her feeling like if she does a good job then she'll get her mother's attention and love.

2023-04-11 01:22:57 +0000 UTCJanine is a good person with flaws. Human beings are imperfect ppl who can make mistakes or assumptions and the show does a good job with her character showing that. Even with the best intentions you can overstep or make mistakes. She just projects her own issues into the situations around her a lot. But you can tell she realizes quick and is always apologetic which shows to me that she’ll grow past it eventually. It makes me root for her character more tbh, like I can’t wait to see a Janine who’s overcome her insecurities and projections, imo it’ll make it that much more gratifying since we see how she struggles with it.

2023-04-10 16:56:43 +0000 UTCJanine means well and as you can see she has mommy issues which leads to a lot of her choices, it's never bad intentioned at all and she is truly a good person who makes some mistakes, but she always learns from it and is quick to apologize when she realizes she is in the wrong

And yeah, Janine is definitely not good at reading a social situation lol but she does mean well. Her bad choices I think are a result of letting her insecurities lead her actions, bc she wants to prove herself to everyone.

2023-04-10 02:55:14 +0000 UTCnot a teacher personally but to me she seems to embody all the qualities of a young teacher whose heart is in the right place. too often young teachers are mean with their something to prove attitude. she isn't like that, she feels she needs to prove herself as a young teacher but instead of being mean or course it comes across more driven and sometimes it can go too far but what i love about her is we know she's trying snd it's all coming from a place of caring. i enjoy that about her character

2023-04-10 02:10:05 +0000 UTCWhen I watched the first season Janine also got on my nerves a bit with the way she self inserts or can't read the room correctly. But now in season 2, I do love her a lot more since I feel there's been a bit of character growth. A lot of her traits stem from insecurity and her childhood so it's understandable why she is the way she is. You're right in that she does have good intentions, she cares so much that she can go overboard.

2023-04-10 02:06:32 +0000 UTCJanine can be too much and is definitely socially awkward. I think her character issues is what gives her a lot of room to grow over the seasons. For now, it does make me prefer a lot of other characters over her, while she provides the awkward moments for the show.
