Because this is the story from older timeline, "kicking" from the senior was more common during those time. Also physical punishment was legal during those time at the school (This speaks a lot about culture during those time). It only became illegal sometimes in 2011. Yurim's mother stood surety for the store, and that store owner ran away so basically Yurim's mom would be responsible for paying the debt for whatever the store owner owes.

although hee-do reacted weirdly and kind of childishly at yi-jin's ice cream joke, i can see her perspective. she's been through so much emotional turmoil recently with the gold medal fiasco, and then her just now realizing her feelings for yi-jin. her emotions must be going haywire. she doesn't want to seem like a kid to yi-jin especially now that she sees he's so grown up, he seems so much more mature to her than when they started their friendship. her being upset is more of a projection rather than anything else. she likes him and she sees him differently, but he doesn't see her differently at all
