This is a good point to mention that not all of the music in the US version matches the original. If you watch on All4 with a VPN, you hear the originals. For example, Orla's dance at the end of season one was actually to Madonna's Like a Prayer, which makes so much more sense with the routine. One thing that really stands out as missing from both versions though is the conspicuous absence of any U2, who like the Cranberries, have several songs about The Troubles. Guess we know who overcharges for their music.

I think one of my most favorite thematic experiences while watching Derry Girls, is the ability to portray the ignorance of the group, through their meeting during the Ukrainian episode, with Mae, and more to come. They are not a perfect group, they come from a dangerous place and sometimes their intentions are intertwined with their ignorance of the world besides themselves. However, the contrast between adulthood experiencing the violence versus the bliss of childhood portrays the innocence of adolescent in a whim.
