the reason there were so many kids still in the school during the performance is that in Korea you go to school then after school is over you do clubs and then personal study which is mandatory unless your parents opt you out of it (most parents don't because they take school very seriously) or go to a cram school which is like going to school for a second time that day. most Korean high schoolers don't go home till like 10/11 o'clock. schools are really competitive and lots of Korean parents want their children to get into one of the top 3 Korean universities known as SKY Schools (Seoul national university, Korea university, and Yonsei university). being in any of these schools is like automatically getting a good job and becoming a societal elite with great connections and lots of networking.

one of the things i love about k dramas a lot is the dynamic/relationships portrayed between parents and kids. a lot of american shows don't do this well anymore like they used to and too often parents are just kinda there or a nuisance. i love shows that show meaningful moments with parents and a good amount of k-dramas do it so well. it's one thing i wish our shows here could get better with. it's also why i like bridgerton so much because i love violet's relationship with her children, while not perfect, it's really well done and idk i just get extra emotional about that and appreciate it

Yessss!! That had me bawling seeing her mom like that because you could tell those tears were welling up inside her. Like she was really suffering all this time and putting up a front. I feel for them both so much. This show is emotionally traumatizing 😭😭

i got a little teary eyed seeing hee-do and her mom crying because that was the first time since hee-do's dad passing that they got to console one another like that :(

were the chairs meant to be a symbolism to their relationship? they were ignored and forgotten when hee-do's father passed, left to mold (basically not acknowledging/coping with her dad's passing). and when hee-do finally hit her breaking point (the chair breaking), it was up to her mom to step up and get it fixed. although the chairs weren't repaired exactly as the dad left them, they were still able to get fixed. the chairs were given a new chance for new beginnings just like hee-do and her mother's relationship.

I feel like her mom kept taking opportunities towards the end of Hee Do’s dad’s life because she felt like now she would be solely responsible and that if she slowed down and really started to feel the emotions, she’d never be able to get out of bed and provide for her daughter. Like she’s had to push it down so that she could function and not crumble. That doesn’t excuse the way she treated Hee Do but at the same time I can understand why she did because she was essentially saying to Hee Do what she wanted to say to herself. The mouth speaks what the heart contains.
