Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Episode 3 'Even Days' Early Access/Watchalong

So.. I'm Bipolar with psychosis. I'm medicated and fine, but I've had some of George's symptoms. Anxiety attacks, then some psychosis. I woke up soaking wet in the shower once with my clothes still on while clutching my pillow. My mom said I ekpt talking and crying to myself and wouldn't get out. It's case by case, and every bipolar experience is different. It's just sad that back then either they think your stupid, weak, a lunatic, or possessed. I'm just happy to live in a timeline when medication and treatment is available.

Due to the lack of knowledge on mental health/illness at the time of George the third's reign - its hard to know exactly what was going on with him. From working in the mental health field it looks most aligned with Bipolar II (two). Short (24-48 hours) episodes of hypomania that can include auditory and visual hallucinations and feelings of euphoria or irritability. Most people don't know that bipolar disorder isn't simply flipping between depression and mania, it can be much more debilitating. Many people with bipolar disorder are on anti-psychotic drugs similar to those prescribed for schizophrenia. Bipolar I is more in line with the stereotype, months of depression followed by weeks of mania. His illness did get worse over time but some scholars think he also developed dementia later in life. Anyway love your reactions! Sorrows Sorrows Prayers for Bryce's emotions later in the season lol

Honestly the porphyria theories make my stomach hurt because my boyfriend of three years has it. Best believe I’ll stand by him if it get rough but I truly hope he never gets lucid like King George.

Sierra

I highly recommend you guys look into “Reign” for your next LA show! It’s got everything you like romance, drama, mystery, action and it’s a period show just like Bridgerton!!

i recently watched a psychiatrist react to this show and in the comments he theorized that king george might've also been autistic amongst the things you listed which I think was interesting; I think it shows up in his passions and how he interacts with people :)!

eli

thank you so much!!

It’s just so sad seeing George when he’s having an psychosis episode… it’s like, when he’s himself he’s so beautiful, and then when that happens to him it’s just a completely different person. It’s sad. And for Queen Charlotte too, ugh. She handled that like a true Queen at the end. This series really made me respect and love the Queen much more, it made me see the depth that she has. Can’t wait for the next ep reaction! ❤️

re: King George’s illness, scholars are not completely certain of which mental illnesses he suffered from, and the speculation ranges from bipolar disorder to schizophrenia to porphyria (which is actually a blood disorder that can cause neurological complications). Whatever the actual issue was, we start to see signs of it here in this spinoff, but when we see him as an older man, it’s clear that his situation has gotten worse, with signs of dementia on top of everything else. All of this is based on the real King George III and records of his symptoms. That being said, the actor who plays George mentioned in an interview that they “didn’t want to diagnose” George in the show, so it seems like they just applied a variety of symptoms to serve that purpose.

Hope you did well on your finals!

Elyse

some people say that the king is bipolar but I read somewhere that he has porphyria

aalliyah

omg I was hoping they would know "if I Ain't Got You" too 💀💀💀

Alana

Not you guys doing Beyonce dirt on the first episode and now my girl Alicia too 😭✊️ I was sweating cold, waiting for the chorus to hit in hopes yall noticed If I Ain't Got You playing at the ball, as if it was a serious matter 😂😂️

George suffered from either bipolar disorder or a blood disorder that attacks your nerves. It's unclear which one he had, but he did have episodes off and on, that eventually became permanent.

Tosh

One thought is he was actually either Bipolar or suffered from a blood disorder that attacks your nerves. It's not clear which it was. He actually didn't start to show signs of mental issues this early in their marriage.

Tosh

I’m glad I’m not the only one! When he kept being rejected from the hunt I felt bad for him & understood his frustration. He just wanted to be accepted. But then he’d take it out on Lady Danbury by taking her to the bedroom or dismissing her as “just a woman” or being rude to her and it was just wrong. Could not root for him but glad he died at least witnessing how he had been accepted into the high society he was desperately trying to be a part of.

I felt terrible once we saw Lady Danbury talking to Violet about the differences in their marriages because there were several brief (VERY brief) moments where I found Lord Danbury almost endearing. Hearing her perspective later changed that view. Love this series & all the complex relationships, nothing is one-dimensional.

Taylor Gardner

I DIED at that.

Taylor Gardner

“I want him to talk to me like that “ lol Same Rob. Same. 😂

Xio’♡

though he shares some symptoms bipolar people have when having manic episodes, it doesn’t seem like he suffers from bipolar disorder but from something else

sophie

I think it was something else

Alana

Finally Lady Danbury is free 🙌

As someone who is severely allergic to bees like Edmund Bridgerton, I also like to imagine a bee saying “Gotcha!” and then chomping my arm.

Kaela

He is bi-polar

I just realized that in episode 1, when Charlotte was asking the servants questions about the king some of the questions were related to his mental state.
