lmao what I said

Farmer George was a real nickname too 😭

Speculation is bipolar disorder and/or hyper mania, though some scholars believe it could also be porphyria. The actor who plays young George has stated in interviews that there was a conscious decision to not diagnose George in the show, so I suspect they portrayed a mashup of symptoms for that reason.

It makes me so mad. I’m in school to be a medical assistant and there are things that happen even now in some places that make me so angry. Things that are so far from being professional or actually helpful. Some people have such god complexes and will do anything and everything to feel like they’re the “good guy” so to speak. It just really sucked seeing this happen in the show and knowing and seeing how horrible it was back then. And knowing that there are unfortunately still some people like that out there, even though they are much less known.

A colic is simply a baby’s prolonged crying (without any identifiable cause) ;)

Alice_S

No bc he would never get violent & he was able to feel emotions of happiness & euphoria during his episodes which doesn’t happen in schizophrenics

S.W.

Could George’s condition be schizophrenia? Thats the only thing I could think of. The older him could just be in such a deep psychosis to the point where he doesn’t remember anything.

Makayla E

Oh I couldn’t stop crying after this episode.

S.W.

The best episode so far!! Love your reactions sm (: Thanks for the early upload, y'all have really been spoiling us lately! 🥰

Bárbara Pereira

k

I haven’t seen it! 😱 I had no idea! I just buy Yorkshire out of habit. Thank you, I’m gonna Google now. 😅 🫖

Rosie

this was the episode that broke me

sophie

watching this before i study for my exam as a quick treat because i've had a long day!!

sophie

George needed medication that only modern times could provide. Maybe actual, proper therapy would've worked with giving him tools to try to cope somewhat, but I think that even if modern psychiatry was available, they wouldn't allow the king to be treated because it could easily get out that he was "crazy" if a psychiatrist keeps showing up at the palace.

Tosh

Fun fact: George's comment that he was "born for the happiness and misery of a great nation..." is a direct quote from George III.

speaking of cuppas, have you seen the brand republic of tea has a line of bridgerton inspired teas! i have the one inspired by pen and it's orange and champagne and it so delicious!

ugh that makes my skin crawl and my heart break

it's taken me a long time to get the place i am in now when i look back on past medicine without so much anger. i know many times it was just cruelty for cruelty's sake but in spite of how dark things could be, i think a lot of people medically did go into things with an intention of sincerely wanting to help. they just had no idea how and were throwing anything at the wall to see what would stick. it's absolutely heartbreaking but trying to see it this way has helped me look back on past things with much less anger, and more just a deep sadness. i am just so thankful we are where we are today. i know there's a long way to go with things but it's just such a blessing to be where we are now.

emily ღ

same, it made me so anxious that there was no way of healthily and properly diagnosing him with something so they just essentially tortured him and made him endure such pain without even knowing if they were improving or worsening his condition

k

i honestly think the doctor torturing him made everything 10 times worse

Makayla

The doctor knew that the news of Charlotte’s pregnancy would trigger George, and delivered it because he’s on such a power trip and loved the control he had over him. He was more concerned for his own self-interests rather than the king’s welfare. Makes me so angry

booknerd_charlie

Rob’s hair and glasses combo 😫🤌🏽👀

Mariya Pratt

same here, it's heartbreaking seeing what they had to go through back then just bc they didn't have the advanced medicine that we do now

Tia Lily

this episode honestly made me so thankful for modern medicine

Priscilla
