2023-07-01 15:54:08 +0000 UTCThis is the romcom episode, so if you’re not family with a lot of romcoms from the 90s and 00s then a lot of the actions, dialogue, cadence… will go over your head. Ex: Roy leaving in the middle of his job, the hard journey he had to get to the stadium…etc.

When Harry Met Sally is the one referenced the most in that episode, and is definitely a must watch, but I'd also love to see you guys watch Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping too.

The speech that Ted gives Roy about how “when you know you want to coach with someone forever you want forever to start now”, and the “I’ll have what he’s having” in the restaurant is from When Harry Met Sally, the “I’m just a coach standing in front of a boy” speech is from Notting Hill, the “as you wish” is from the Princess Bride. The “you complete the team” and “shut up, you had me at coach” is from Jerry McGuire. And so many other references.

It took me a few watches to get it, but the whole scene of Roy leaving the show and his journey getting to the game etc. is them making fun of rom coms…which is why Roy told the other coach “I have to go” the way he did 😂 On a rewatch when you know that’s what they are doing it’s actually so funny lol
