Let's get something straight, NOBODY hates Claire, that's exaggerating. MOST of us though didn't like her and we have valid reasons as to why. She feels out of place, she is one note and boring, her scenes were the least interesting parts of this season, Carmy (a character we do love) didn't feel like Carmy when being around her, she was wayyy to pushy with Carmy to try and start something with him when he clearly wasn't ready, also everybody and their mother TELLING us Claire's great every two seconds without us actually arriving to that conclusion ourselves, is all more than enough reasons to dislike the character. No disrespect to the actress, she played her well, but Claire just wasn't compelling or needed and I do think the show will benefit if they decide to not bring her back. Let her serve as a hard lesson that Carmy learned and be done with it.

Yes! Richie and Tiff had less camera time and I am really sad she’s now with someone else. I just think Claire’s character was poorly written

Ashley

Claire is the epitome of a manic pixie dream girl, maybe it's us seeing her from carmy's perspective but she just doesn't feel real. Every other character in the show is so fleshed that sometimes it feels like I'm watching something off Bon Appetit, then out pops Claire and I get those 2010s hipster vibes again. We had like 10 minutes of Richie and Tiff proving the writers can show an authentic romantic relationship. Its a shame cause I was so excited for Molly Gordon.

Zahra

No it’s not. People don’t like Claire because we literally know nothing about her other than she works at a hospital and she likes Camry. Also her character is just thrusted into the show like we (the viewers) are supposed to care about her.

holyrosé🔪

The hatred for Claire stems from shipping Syd and Carmy. She’s a good person and people have this ridiculous bias against her just because they feel more threatened and jealous of her relationship with Carmy than Syd does. 🙃 Apart from needing Carmy’s attention and focus for the restaurant, Syd appears like she couldn’t care less about Carmy dating someone.

Cindy S.

Even the guys noted the chemistry between Syd and Marcus, but whatevs. 💅

Cindy S.

I don't think she's really meant to be, at least at this stage. She's more of a plot device than someone you're meant to deeply care about so far. We know she's a nice person, they had crushes on each other for years growing up, she's successful, and they'd be good together if he was in a place to be in a relationship. All of that is as explicit as storytelling gets without blurting it out in corny exposition. That's all we need from her character this season. Whether or not it goes further we'll see. I didn't love the plot line, but either way, hating her is insane.

Liam Duggan

I get the point of Claire's role in the show. She also meant to bring him out of his shell and be more social outside the restaurant. I just didn't find her character intriguing or interesting even if Camry did.

Monica

The whole point of Claire is that she's great, but if Carmy wants the restaurant to be as successful as he claims, and if they want those Michelin stars, he has to put all of his focus, time and energy into the restaurant. They made her such a good person and a great match for Carmy to show what kind of life he has to give up for "the cause". He has to make the choice between a work life balance, or running the restaurant of his dreams, and Syd and Jimmy were telling him to choose the restaurant. People who seem to hate Claire (for being...too good of a person, or because they have their own weird obsessive ships and refuse to entertain any other options), and/or want Carmy and Sydney to get romantic are completely missing the entire point of the back half of this season.

Liam Duggan

Just like you see 0 sparks between Syd and Carmy I see 0 sparks between Marcus and Syd. All I see is friendship. Although they probably have more chemistry than Carmy and Claire 😂👎🏼

Ashley

All I know is that the MAJORITY of us don’t want Claire back and I hope she doesn’t. Even IF Carmy and Syd remain platonic, Claire’s gotta go!

Ashley

Definitely gagged me too, I was shook 😭

Emily

Carmy's walkout towards the end gagged me a bit, he looked great.

Nikki

Well, they both regard each other as "platonic" partners and from their perspective that's where they are right now, a partnership. I think there is a difference between the actor who is playing the character and what that character is currently aware of vs what the writer/director might do in the future you know? So yea he is speaking from Carmy's perspective and what the relationship is currently and it's not like either of them has confessed anything romantic to each other. And I do feel there were some seeds planted if they decide to take it that route. I mean during his panic attack, In the background, we hear a distorted version of the song Strange Currencies by R.E.M playing (it's the same song that played when he first saw Claire and it's also a love song). However, the minute he starts to picture the first time he saw Sydney and the time she came back after she quit, we hear that song start to play normally again. I'm sure when Carmy thought about Sydney to calm down he more than likely wrote that off as "she believes in me, we're a team, I can do this" but we may view it a little differently because we have more knowledge about that entire scene and song choice (It's not like Carmy is aware a love song played when he thought of Sydney 😂). Like idk they could have used literally any other song but they chose that specific one. Interesting. Also during the table scene, there is another love song playing called "Come Back." Now this could mean totally nothing but idk, I find it hard to believe they chose two love songs to play during two moments when Syd and Carmy were on screen by accident. They could've just as easily chosen instrumentals.. so it's interesting. There's a difference between what the actor is currently playing/feeling in a role vs what the writers/directors may want to do or hint at in the future. I mean I remember last season Jeremy said Carmy didn't do a certain "thing" and then bam in season 2 he's doing that certain thing 😂. Now I'm not saying it's going to turn romantic but I do see how it could happen. The writer/directors are making interesting choices 😂

candyxo

Stomach issues/Pepto Bismol guzzling= stress/ nerves from opening a restaurant. 😜

Angelica

I’m a Syd/Carmy shipper so I definitely don’t see it that way at all but like I said it’s all up for interpretation, some people see it, some people don’t.

Emily

I spotted the chemistry between Syd and Marcus since last season. I'm glad you fellas could see it too. They are the ones to root for, but Marcus has some truly horrible timing. He's 0 for 2 what with the donut fiasco is season 1 and now asking Syd out on the night of the 'soft' opening. Oy.

Cindy S.

It was a beautiful moment between two friends being honest and vulnerable with each other. I adore their platonic relationship. I looked and looked for romantic sparks between them and always came up empty. It makes such perfect sense for them to remain just friends and nothing more.

Cindy S.

Also, Jeremy Allen White: Syd and Carmy share a *platonic* relationship filled with love, respect, and admiration. (Some) Syd/Carmy shippers: what a liar!

Cindy S.

Carmy later revealed to Syd that Claire is so great it scares the shit out of him. So for me it became clear that during his panic attack he was trying to justify being with her by recalling Syd's words, reminding him that he's pretty great too. And Syd/Carmy fans trying to run with this whole "she's too attached to his past..." is hilarious because she isn't. She's just the right amount of familiar (they went to school together) to fit in to his current life, but it's not like every memory of her is intertwined with his family or trauma.

Cindy S.

agreed! that whole scene was shot beautifully and was just so sweet. they're soulmates (even if not romantically) without a doubt. and the way he was experiencing anxiety and calmed down at the thought of syd. love love love them!!

AJ

Syd and Carmy chemistry is so chief kiss 🤌🏾 like that under the table scene felt so intimate and real, I felt like I was invading a moment when I first watched it. Whether you ship sydcarmy or not, you can’t deny they are soulmates, whether it’s platonic or romantic is left up to interpretation.

Emily

Completely agree and I MAY be part of the minority but this ep was definitely the one for sydcarmy fans

keani

Claire is definitely not the one for him, I think it's very telling that while he was having his panic attack, she wasn't the one to calm him down, memories with her were just as anxiety-inducing as memories with his family. I think she's too attached to his past, in order to move forward/heal, he needs to look towards his future.
