The "trope" exists because it happens irl all the time, particularly for older queer people.

2023-08-02 14:25:35 +0000 UTCAt least they twisted it slightly. It wasn't just "you didn't tell me, what's wrong with you?", it was more "what did I do to make you think you couldn't tell me?". Still ignorant in its own way as he obviously doesn't have a right to know anything about Colin's sexuality, and a person's coming out should always happen on their time, but at least he was worried about if he was putting something across that made him seem untrustworthy or like he wouldn't be cool with it. I think it was a very hamfisted and mishandled attempt to make it look like an attempt to grow from Isaac.

2023-08-02 02:25:35 +0000 UTCit's such a tired trope, and really kind of upsetting ted lasso went for it. another show sure i could see them do that but there's a standard i find myself holding this show because it consistently tries to be better and do better. so to see them go that route was disappointing

2023-08-02 02:10:20 +0000 UTCAs much as I love this episode and Ted’s speech about supporting your friends, as someone who is not straight, the whole storyline where the straight friend is mad that his gay friend didn’t tell him really annoys me. When and how someone comes out is no one’s business but that persons. Isaac making Colin’s sexuality about him is just a tired trope at this point.
