Here's the thing. I get it because of the oldish Thai BL shows are problematic AF. The newer ones seem to be trying to get out of that. I should also say that because a ton of them take place in college, they tend to go to the dramatic extreme for storylines. So basically they tend to be SOAPY as hell. If anyone is old enough to remember the soaps, all of the toxic characters you listed above could be found heavily in soaps. I still don't think the whole genre should be disregarded. I do agree that BLs are written by women and the main consumers are women. The writers being women annoys the crap out of me. The main consumers being women isn't weird to me b/c women are the main consumers of any type of romance. So yeah there are definitely problems there, but I don't think every last Thai BL show suffers from the same issues.

2023-10-27 14:40:55 +0000 UTCmost thai bl's are horrible when portraying relationships. they portray the community as either rapists, cheaters, sexual assaulters, stalkers, (fill in any horrible toxic relationship title here), and are based on scripts and/or stories written by girls who fetishize gay guys. not to mention most actors who portray the gay guys in these dramas are not only NOT gay, but have sometimes expressed disgust in the community and/or use their on screen relationship to garner off screen popularity from their crazy obsessed fans. out of most of the art written about my community, thai dramas that focus on the lgbtq community are some of the worst and have a bad reputation among people actually in the community. while not perfect, if you're going to recommend bl dramas to them from an asian country, which is what you seem to be doing for some reason, i would say taiwanese, japanese or korean bl dramas are better, though korean ones more so as their level of actually harmful material is minimal.
