Succession 4x10 'With Open Eyes' EXTRA Early Access/Watchalong

Comments

so sad it’s finally come to an end. it has flew by so quick! i remember just over a few months ago i wasn’t even certain yall would eventually react to it now here we are 🥹 best show of all time, i feel like i will be recommending it to everyone until everyone i know has watched it, it’s also so much fun getting new people to react to it over and over so i never have to truly say goodbye to it! can’t wait for yall to start another show that fills the void (fingers crossed for big little lies) 🤞🏽

Lily

tom wambsgans ceo of waystar! (and swallowing his own load) 🏆🤝

Lily

I agree but my perspective of Kendall has changed upon rewatching this fully with them and Diegesis. When I was watching it for the first time, I was 100% Team Kendall and I didn't get why things just didn't work out for him but as I rewatch the show knowing what's going to happen, my thoughts have changed completely. I think it works because Jeremy also believes Kendall so he sold that so well throughout the show.

Briana J

OMG thank you lmao

Briana J

IM THE ELDEST BOY! 😂 So happy you guys enjoyed this show! Can’t wait to see what else you watch.

Ari

Bryce’s Kendall outfit is amazing too😭

cass

So happy you guys loved this show as much as we all do! This season basically took all the awards this year and rightfully so. The cast and crew are so incredible, it’s definitely going down as one of the best shows of all time imo.

cass

I should get on discord you always have good takes Briana 🤔

Sali Zellk

I'm surprised you found Kendall to be the most complex sibling. I thought he was easily the least complex compared with Roman and Shiv.

AK

What a finale this is. Every time I love it more. Seeing them as opponents and then as siblings messing around, being the most free we've seen all series only for it to come crashing down. I love that the last scenes they filmed on the show were those in Barbados. The stiches scene really gets me every time. It's so chilling. I have come around to the view that Roman needed that abuse in that moment, because that's what he's been pre-conditioned to need after years of it from Logan (look at him going out in to the protesters to get hit last ep), so I know some say Kendall only did what he needed, but still for me, seeing Kendall become the abuser figure to Roman, in place of Logan, after he'd previously jumped to his defence, was so chilling. He was really showing how much he was willing to become like his dad and that was another example. Roman yet again pulled in to line via abuse. Just awful. I was lucky enough to watch this ep live in London in a cinema with Jesse Armstrong and some of the writers and that scene got a lot of gasps in the room. I don't blame Shiv. She summed it up - she loves Kendall but she can't stomach him. He's always obnoxious when winning and he'd have been unbearable in charge. The fact she's still aligned to power via Tom is at least something, but yet again she's sidelined by a man in her life. If only she'd not fallen for Logan's games to control his kids in season 2's opener, she'd have possibly been Chief Of Staff to VP Gil right now. It's been great watching this again with the three of you!

Victoria E (vickster5001)

For sure. We see throughout the series that Logan uses verbal/emotional (and sometimes physical) abuse to control and manipulate Roman. Since Logan died Kendall's taken up using abuse to control Roman and we see it here again.

AK

I was saying on Discord that I genuinely think Kendall and Roman have the kind of relationship where Kendall and Roman can say the worst things to each other and then be fine the next day because so much of their relationship from the time they were children is surviving their parents. Kendall and Roman will be fine. Shiv and Roman will be fine. I think Kendall and Shiv might need some time but I think ultimately they will be fine because people forget this was one really bad week for the Roy kids. There's added emotions because of their dad, I don't think any of them were clear headed this whole season so with time, Shiv being a mom, and their mutual relationships with their brothers, it should be okay. Connor will be fine with everyone because HE is the eldest son and was a surrogate father. I think no matter what they will always be bonded because they survived their dad.

Briana J

I’m so happy yall watched succession it’s such a great show!! Big little lies next hopefully!

Jen

man, watching this for the first time was such emotional whiplash. I went from cheering for tom to crying because I thought Kendall was going to end his life in the span of a couple of minutes

Violet Aurora

thanks guys you really did amazing with the reaction to this show even tho it can sometimes get a bit too wordy and long. I'm going to write my fucking essay so buckle up! As for my finals thoughts, like a lot of us big Succession fans, I've read a lot of theories. It's pretty easy to guess where they all end up except for Ken. Shiv: people can say what they want but she kept the bloodline in the company. Yes it's not fair to say that Ken's kids aren't really his bc they're adopted and all that but realistically speaking they're raised by their mom and probably won't grow up to seek the CEO position. Shiv is going to give birth to kids that Tom and her will raise to be excellent and probably take back the company. Shiv has some trauma that she will probably pass onto her kids but Tom is a heartier version of her and I think despite everything they will probably stay together. The world is run by money and Tom will never make half the money Shiv has as an heir of Logan's fortune so since Tom has the title and Shiv the DNA and the money they will probably work together bc they each have something the other wants. Roman: Honestly I would love to think that about a world where gerri and him talk things through and become friends at least. I think he never wanted all of this he's just been conditioned to pretend like he does to get his father's love and attention. Overall his smile at the end is super sincere and I think he's just going to do whatever Roman wants to do Kendall: well idk man... one part of me thinks he might end up overdosing and killing himself bc his father raised him to only seek that CEO position since he was a fucking kid and he probably now feels like he's nothing at all bc he only had one purpose and unfortunately that will probably lead to suicide. But another part remembers his speech when he said "My God I hope it's in me" about his father malignancy and strength to keep doing things. And yeah idk I feel like maybe that's his rebirth. Maybe he will start something from the ground up and close his heart forever I mean as he said himself "maybe the poison drips through" the siblings bond: In the end I think Connor, Shiv and roman will keep their relationship but I'm not sure Ken can forgive Shiv so their relationship will probably never recover... Some people are saying that all the siblings are going to go their separate ways and not talk to each other but I don't think Rome cares enough about all of this to stop talking to shiv especially since she's expecting and honestly I kinda think he cares. However if ken kills himself I can see Roman being mad at Shiv and not talking to her so yeah their bond will probably take a hit for a while. Tom deserved it I guess, he did work a lot and while I think he's just Mattson' bitch and his position doesn't really mean shit in terms of power I think he got the security he was seeking all along.

Sali Zellk

I swear Zuff always be making laugh at the most unexpected times. Like why did he burst out laughing when Roman said “which? like you’ve killed so many kids?” 😭😭😭 That should NOT have been funny but man I couldn’t stop laughing 💀

Javier Suarez

Such a good show - a slow start (still good) and a slow end (bad) but so much quality and intrigue in the middle it's worth it

Natasha

Oh, yeah- misogyny, homophobia, & racism- Logan's bread and butter. I'll be honest, it was totally believable to me that Logan said those things, and where most people I've seen have heavily critiqued Roman quoting those at Kendall, I don't really blame him so to speak, in part for exactly the reason you said- the way Ken reacted felt to me like it came down to ego/insecurity. I personally just didn't really think too far into either kid's parentage until I started seeing things online referencing them as adopted, but it's the most minor quibble to wish we'd known sooner. Maybe because I've read lots of takes on that scene and lots of people fixate on what Roman says about the kids and not the context of him saying something to make himself a target (and distract from Shiv) or the armor-piercing moment for them both where Roman calls them all bullshit, and Kendall denies, denies, denies, but it's in his face that he knows it's a denial on some level.

Ash W

On the adoption thing with Sophie, I feel like that was obvious. Iverson surprised me though but I'm assuming it was like a donor situation. I remember back when Logan would make comments about "shooting blanks" and making comments that alluded to Kendall being gay (the comment in 1x8 about being dead in a French f-slur's pool and in 3x8 about Kendall possibly being with the waiter for sex). Basically, I think that adds to Logan not respecting Kendall as a man throughout the show. I get it's misogynistic business talk but a lot of Logan's comments stood out to me after that reveal. I agree that it can come off as a bit too much like just another way to knock Kendall down because it was so late in the finale but I also think it's slightly fitting that Kendall is fine with it and in his most insecure moments he resorts to being an absent dad. Maybe in Kendall's dark moments, he also thinks his kids aren't real.

Briana J

Kendall absolutely ripped Roman's stitches on purpose.

Ryan Roach

I know I was side-eying Zuff for laughing at Roman during the funeral episode… but I’m back to loving him again for the finale. This was one of the funniest, craziest, saddest series finales ever. Fantastic stuff. I agree that season 4 may be my favorite: Logan’s passing, the dirty politics, constant sibling backstabbing, & Tom landing on top! Just stellar stuff. Awesome reaction guys. Bryce rocked the fit, dudes. 😎

Paris Hardy

I had a moment during "America Decides" where Roman and Jeryd Mencken are doing their little saying "You and me, we'll go far. Over the road and into the bar" and realized that it basically foretells Roman's storyline and literally where he ends up?! Couldn't say anything because of the spoilers, but by god the details in the writing of this show are incredible. I love that we ended the series looking out at the water, the glow of a setting sun lighting the final shot. I love that Shiv made a smart decision against what she theoretically wanted and that she of all the siblings still retains some power in the family business. I love that moment we realize Connor knew their dad in a way we never actually saw in the show, and that Kendall can shout about being the eldest boy but Connor just is. I love that Roman, easily the most abused of the kids, looks so authentic for a lot of this episode- and when it was all done, he was the most free. He looks broken but also like there's hope for something better and real that couldn't have existed under the thumb of his dad or brother or business. I love that Kendall came so close to being his father but that all it did was spur his downfall again and break apart his family, so he's left with Colin watching over him and waves lapping at a distance. I love that it's Tom and Greg who remain. It's been a hell of a ride.

Ash W

We're finally here!! 1st, though, let's be clear- Kendall deliberately broke his brother's stitches. He also tried to physically attack his pregnant sister. He tried to gaslight his siblings and rewrite history we watched play out, adopting a version of his dad's "no real person involved"/"it never fucking happened" schtick to the one thing we've ever seen Ken take accountability for. He said just last episode that he hoped the "malignant, awful force" of Logan was in him. You can see Kendall holding Roman's head, grinding it into his shoulder while Roman (half-heartedly, already sitting in a defeat he half-wanted) tries to get away. I think it's worth noting that this is the most of Logan that Kendall has ever been, the closest to a complete transformation. We've seen bits and pieces of a bully Ken who was not afraid to be a brute to friends and siblings alike but he's emboldened here in a way that beckons his fall. There is so much gross stuff said and done in this show and the cracks about Kendall's kids not being his real kids are up there. It may be the only thing that bumped me a little in the finale- why are we just now finding out Sophie was adopted and Iverson also has a different biological father?? I feel like we should have been told they (??) were adopted ages ago and it would have fleshed out everything even more + made the unveiling of what Logan said about them all the more potent. It's a minor nitpick in the grand scheme. But, damn, can you ever see Shiv get the ick multiple times with Ken- there's something to the fact that she never claims she won't betray him during "Meal fit for a king". She alone spits in that blender. When she says, "I love you, but I can't fucking stomach you." It's evident that she realized she had a path to keep her in with the company via Tom and that it was the only option to prevent Kendall's full rise to power he clearly should not have.

Ash W

i read it as kendall deliberately opened roman's stitches. then we have the meaningful look at logan's chair, his desk, his space; logan said he wasn't a killer. the closest he could get was making his brother bleed. it wasn't enough. but he sacrificed so much of who he was to try to meet logan's challenge.

sanrac

So glad you guys watched this!!! Definitely one of the best shows ever made. Hoping for The Crown next! (Been putting that forward for what feels like forever😂)

Erin

Mr. Darcy always wins. :D

Karen Wood

I love the scene with the kids at their mother’s house. I guess it’s fitting that each moment after one of the few heartwarming scenes in this series, we are forced to watch it all crumble. And Shiv the shiv, man. 🥲 No words.

Juliet

If you guys ever watch the show again on your own time, I hope you look at the "Controlling the Narrative" videos at the end. I think you can even find them on YouTube in a playlist for the entire show because they give a ton of insight into how the writers, directors, and actors think about their characters. Even that series won an Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmys lol

Briana J

I'm not mentally prepared to watch the full length yet lmao. Bryce you're serving in the fit. This was such a fun show to watch with you guys and I hope you enjoyed it! There's so much to say but I loved this finale so much. I am a bit more hopeful than a lot of people (and the writers) I think that this was the best ending for the Big 3 Roys. Kendall was prepared to walk away from the company in season 3, it is not good for him to be this invested in this so I think it'll take some time for him but he will get better. I think Roman always knew it was all bullshit but he wanted his family's affection. Now my opinion on Shiv is super unpopular, mostly because people just don't like her and I do. People question Shiv's decision and reduce her character to being a clone of Caroline/Logan but Shiv is NOT Caroline and Tom is NOT Logan and that's hugely important. I took the hand-holding moment as Tom and Shiv finally accepted each other based on their conversation earlier in the show. Also, this plan was the OG plan from season 1 technically with Shiv getting Tom the CEO position. She just re-pivoted. That's not to say I don't think Shiv suffered a major loss because the misogyny sucks but I genuinely think she made a good choice for her and her baby. Jesse Armstrong even said that in a lot of ways, Shiv is the one still in play. Finally, I also don't see Shiv being "stuck" anywhere with Tom because it's not the 1950s and she's a billionaire who has shown us that if she's not happy, she's ditching.

Briana J

the meal fit for a king scene was the last scene they filmed (which is so cute and so sad) after it was over they all shaved jeremy's hair lol. there's videos of it online!

abbey

We’re here !!! It’s been such a joy to rewatch this in a more timely fashion. We had like 5 years you all had 2 months. It put a lot of things in perspective bc the time from episode 1 to the end isn’t very long at all

DP

We've finally come to the end 🥲 why am I nervous lol! I've loved watching along w you guys! Also, Bryce I love the fit & glasses, you look great

Kiana

Can't believe this show is over 😭 Also congrats on 150k!!🎉

Tanya Murphy
