it actually was the abcdefu song in the beginning of the ball 😭 also i was kinda putting off watching this season bc colin and penn were both annoying me in the previous seasons (still love them though) but i love it so far

They aren't really focusing on the main couple much and as a result, their storyline feels rushed. Colin's change in attitude happened so fast that it was like whiplash. We didn't get to see much between him going from never thinking of Pen that way to what happens at the end of episode four. So...yeah.

As far as we see, he seems to enjoy this weird new stuff he is doing (up until that point he doesn't). Feels like they could've added in more moments where his mask drops and we see how much he doesn't enjoy this stuff but we never really see it or when we do it is so brief that you aren't really sure if that's even what is happening

Pen as Whistledown clocks him for it immediately, even if it was out of spite, and it also serves as a contrast for how he acts around Pen vs. other women. I also feel they touch on this eventually, but I won’t say more than that here because spoilers! 😊

2024-05-17 08:29:03 +0000 UTCwhen i first watched it i also felt like colins character was a bit off and those pickup lines were beyond cringey but after thinking about it a little I feel like it comes off as cringey purposefully because it's not really him, like how they hinted throughout the episode that he's changed and it's so obvious to the people who are close to him. He's sort of wearing a mask and has adopted a new persona, most likely as some kind of response to the rejection he recieved from both previous seasons. Thinking back to when Marina Thompson straight up told him he was still a little boy, he probably felt he had to grow up quicker and appear more manly and flirtatious instead of the kind charm he had previously. He's pretending and that's how it comes off upon second watch, like he's not quite sure what he's doing

They give a few throwaway lines about him being popular/flirty but they never SHOW us. What we do see of Colin in the show is him being naive, a little bumbling, and kind. They forgot to SHOW he was a rake and instead showed us the exact opposite. The first rule of storytelling is show don't tell. That's why Colin seems so out of character. They made him take on the book persona. And that also doesn't fit the actor very well. He is much more in line with how they portrayed him in season 1 and 2. So the answer is terrible writing and directing!

Being a rake is having multiple threesomes with sex workers and gossiping with friends over all the women he slept with on his travels abroad. And yeah his book character was a bit of a rake but it just does not fit the actor/show version of colin they created. That's just my opinion though so I get it that some people disagree

It just does not fit his personality that we have seen the past two seasons at all. Like why build him up for years just to change him so much for his season? Men don't need to be womanizing rakes to be good love interests. He could've just stayed the same guy and it would've been way more romantic in my opinion
