Totally agree! I was surprised when they interpreted it as pity. My read on it was that she wasn't asking Colin (the guy that she's been in love with for years) to kiss her, she was asking Colin (her best, really only, friend who has been the only person listening to her and supporting her in her search for a suitor) to kiss her when she finally has completely lost hope in finding the real thing. She didn't ask him because she thought it would inspire pity (who would even want that??) she asked him because she trusted him, felt comfortable with him, and thought that even though it could never be romantic between them, they still cared for each other deeply.

Yes, thank you for addressing this! You said it all so well! There were so many points I wanted to cover after watching their reaction last night but didn't want to write a novel-length post. What is important for people to remember as we watch is that Pen isn't trying to attract or get Colin. After overhearing him last season, Pen starts off this season pushing her crush for him aside and determined to find a husband. She had no idea Colin would come looking for her, and she asked for that kiss because just as she was beginning to feel confident about her ability to attract a suitor, it all came crashing down and she then felt hopeless about ever securing a match.

I don’t think she asked him in hopes he would pity her. It was no grand scheme to manipulate him into kissing her. This is her best friend and, she was broken, ridiculed, and possibly the lowest she has felt. She simply wanted to do something she hadn’t before. All this talk about never finding love and being a lost cause was really getting to her! Pen’s character is so different this season she’s not swooning over him or pining anymore. The ending to that kiss was heartbreaking, her “thank you” was so sad and broken. I’d also like to point out that this scene is directly out of the book, and Colin had already started having feelings, he wanted to kiss her! I mean if kissing truly meant nothing why try so hard to not do it, someone who had no feelings or emotions involved would have done it no questions asked, he knew it would probably change things and force him to question his feelings! 🫶🏽

You guys have likely already seen all the episodes as I'm typing this, but don't get your hopes up about seeing more Kate and Anthony in part 1 of this season. They'll be back for part 2, but even then their appearances will likely only be a very minor subplot just as Daphne was in season 2. Every Bridgerton will get their own season/love story, and since they already jumped to Colin and Pen's season, the next one is pretty much fair game between Benedict, Eloise, and Francesca.

Those scenes gave me the ick too, but this is set in a different era where those double standards for men and women did unfortunately exist. Noble men with time on their hands, free to do whatever they liked... I mean Anthony taking on a mistress but wanting certain standards in a wife - we hate it, but that's the toxic masculinity in that society and time

i mean he didn’t brag about it to anyone though. He wrote it in his private journal that he explicitly says is not for anyone else’s eyes but his own. And is deliberately choosing to be silent when the other men ask about his time away. I feel like they’ve made it a point to show that he’s in fact not f-ing around and bragging about it.

Believe me, I don't care for it either, but I felt like Colin goes through his manwhore phase because he thinks that's what he has to do to size up to his brothers and to somehow meet society's expectations. And while the threesomes are especially ick, I felt that was intentional to indicate that there are no feelings involved there whatsoever and that these women are not in any way special to him.

producers say they’re trying for all 8 books as seasons, which means a season to focus on each bridgerton sibling. my probably wrong guess is that one sibling is being set up alongside colin and p’s wedding, and then it’s benedict’s season, francesca’s season, and eloise’s season. as i mentioned though…maybe wrong!!

Great reaction! Loving this season! Cressida didn't spread the rumor at all. The show had that scene where the other girls asked her for gossip and she said no and walked away. Then when Eloise accused her of spreading the gossip she said she didn't but pointed out when Eloise spread the gossip to her they were in a crowded party and someone likely overheard.

Penelope and Colin have my heart <3 I felt so bad for her because after everyone insulted her she just lost all hope in herself and felt so low which lead to her asking Colin to kiss her out of fear of never experiencing it. It breaks my heart that Pen thinks so low of herself, but god was that kiss so good. Can't wait for the next two reactions!!

I'm curious why I've seen people say this. I know everyone has their own opinion but Colin has always been sweet. What he said was mean yes, but imo he made up for it and changed his behavior towards pen. As for the being a rake... was Anthony not the exact same and quite honestly more blunt and kinda rude in his behavior than Colin before he fell for Kate? It's just weird because nobody seemed to feel tis way about Anthony. After watching the whole eps I think Colin is a sweetie. Confused about himself yes, but they all are.
