I was "team Stefan" the first time I watched this but there is no way we can call him the bigger person or whatever. He has adopted this persona of self sacrifice and strong morals for a reason. They are both killers and have turned off their emotions at different points. I don't try to reason why one is better then the other. I don't think they are. We all just like different kinds of crazy hahahah

Liv

It’s so sad actually. The way Bonnie was an after thought is weird and knowing Kat’s experiences on this show, it makes everything even more upsetting.

Ash 💕

I agree with you but they use another witch the same way in the originals. Its just how TVDU is

Rewatching the show makes it apparent how much Kat Graham (actress who plays Bonnie) must've truly suffered being on this show. She has talked about the racism she faced on this set countless times and I feel like some of that must've bled into the writers room. You guys point it out in a laughing matter, because it is rather ridiculous, but the way they treated Bonnie as a character i.e only ever giving her screen time when they need a witch when she is one of the main cast members… but somehow manage to write Matt into a scene every couple minutes is absolutely ridiculous. As a young black girl watching this show the character of Bonnie meant so much to me and so rewatching this… seeing how this show does her dirty and how many racist tropes can be found around her character alone is pretty upsetting. But loving the reactions and glad Zuff is feeling better!

Thats the thing that pisses me off lmao like okay yeah we can all find Damon entertaining but (as someone who is neither Team Stefan or Team Damon) the hypocrisy is ridiculous. Stefan is repeatedly the bigger person and it still gets him absolutely nowhere lmao. The writers clearly had every intention on making Damon the fan favorite because they gave up on Stefan as a dynamic character like mid season 1. He's just used to be the person we pity who also coincidentally is always the one willing to sacrifice himself for others. Stefan actually has strong morals and actively tries to become a "better person" but they write him off as him being lame and uncool when really?? He is kinda one of the better ones? (Now let me not get ahead of myself because I do enjoy Damon/ Stefan even more in later seasons, as their dynamics within the show kinda shift).

I like Tyler and Caroline. I think Tyler needs a woman like Caroline to ground him. Her compassion is what he needs. They’re growth as singular characters is nice to witness as well. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to see Tyler find out his uncle was murdered and the person who he trusted and is developing feelings for, knew about it the entire time.

Damon has been the most consistently terrible character. He will have moments of small growth and then take a million steps back. He abused Caroline and treated her like trash, he killed Stefan’s best friend without remorse, he also killed his witch friend because she was distraught over Lexi’s death which is normal. Anyone would have that reaction. He killed Jeremy without knowing that he had a ring because he was rejected by the woman who is dating his brother while also being in constant chase with this very same woman who his brother is in love with. He just kills…doesn’t matter who it is. His actions provided the basis for Jules to bite Rose. He’s the one who was aggressive with Jules first. He’s the reason why Jules is in town in the first place for killing Mason successfully after trying to kill him the first time after Mason only wanted peace. He is absolutely terrible. Stefan doesn’t get any benefit of the doubt and he has been the best boyfriend (as best he can for being a vampire) and friend. He has forgiven Damon time after time after time and he isn’t given the same sympathy that Damon is. RIP to Rose because I loved her character and I loved the dynamic between her and Damon. Her death makes me cry. This was such a nicely written episode.

Matt the gaslighting king 😵‍💫😬

Well said!

RIP Rose. This episode was a hard but necessary lesson for Damon: realizing his actions have real consequences. He killed Mason and it lured Jules to town. He arrogantly baited Jules on the night of a full moon and Rose ended up bit. He overplayed his hand, and Rose suffered horrifically then died. He needed this moment, for sure, because he didn't learn his lesson the first time around when he impulsively snapped Jeremy's neck.

We got Rose for such a short time that we didn't get to really connect with her but her death still makes me cry everytime I watch it. And Damon trying to deny that he cares is kind of annoying at this point. Him crying and admitting he missed being human made me want to give him a hug. Then when I thought he was gonna let the woman go I was so proud of him but when he killed her I wanted to slap him. That man can make me feel so many different things in the span of a few minutes! Also, as part of Team Stefan (who still likes Damon for the most part), I'm glad Rob is able to admit when Damon does something wrong and doesn't make excuses for him. I've had way too much experience with hardcore Damon fans doing that. There's such an obvious double standard when it comes to him and Stefan (and certain other characters). Though unintentional, he is the reason Rose is dead! The dude has a serious anger problem and needs some serious therapy. He SA'd Caroline, gaslighted her and generally treated her like garbage. He literally killed the brother of the woman he claims to love because both she and the other woman he loves/loved rejected him. And before you come with the "but Jeremy had the ring on!", Damon ADMITTED he didn't know that (even if he had known it's still messed up). He doesn't just kill people to feed, he kills for fun, and most importantly, when he's hurt. But Stefan goes on one rampage and people are like "See! He's no better than Damon! He's such a hypocrite!" The math ain't mathing people. Anyways, fun detail: When Mason first arrived, Tyler referred to him as the 'black sheep'. In this episode Jules wears a sheepskin coat - two wolves in sheep's clothing.

Damon giving Rose that dream was sooo heartwarming💖💖 That scene always breaks me😭😭

TVD REEL TIME!

"Everyone just needs to stop kissing me!" Line of the episode, Caroline. RIP Rose. That whole Rose and Damon part just gets me emo every time I watch it.

Cristy

Roses death is so heartbreaking I really wish she would’ve been a regular on the show and her and Damon were so cute:( but at least she died while her mind was in a happy place. Poor Damon I feel so bad for him and I hope he can eventually just give into his feelings and stop fighting it

Ashly_ 789

Poor Rose! I genuinely liked Rose and Damon's dynamic, it's sad it got cut short.

Caroline

I think this was a huge turning point for Damon- realizing he is still capable of caring for others and suffer losing them.

Kenia Ortiz

Damon in this episode ah my heart!!

Mariel

I had completely forgotten Damon’s monologue at the end!! It completely changes how I feel about upcoming seasons!! Damn I might be Team Damon by the end of this hahah
