Agree, Freddie is the closest to a good person we've met in these two episodes, I don't understand the hate. (In response to the discussion, not your comment): Campbell's only goal is the guns. Now that he knows Tommy has them, there isn't a reason for him to care about Freddie / for Freddie to be at the top of Campbell's list.

He is reckless and too optimistic about his political goals but he's genuinely trying to fight for the rights of the working class in an era when the conditions and wages were really bad. (And Ada always knew he's a communist and a risk to hang around with.) In the whole scheme of things he might just be one of the rare good ones. And the way Tommy wrapped Campbell around his finger in that meeting, just too good!
