I think Lydia is 18 and Sutton is 25 or something like that (the actress is 21 and the actor 32), which is still inappropriate imo. Legality doesn’t equal morality, which is why I’m relieved you guys aren’t approving of their relationship either. At that age that kind of age gap still makes a huge difference. I mean I’m 23 and I surely wouldn’t date 18-year-olds anymore. I don’t understand why the author and producers chose to romanticize grooming. Knowing some of what will happen in the next book/season (trust me, you wouldn’t guess what exactly I mean by that), I’m not looking forward to the continuation of that particular storyline at all. It’s a shame really, because other than that it’s soo enjoyable

Even if for some sick reason someone ships them, everything else happening with her sucks and makes us uncomfortable. Pregnant before entering college? Cast aside by her parents? Blackmailed by her ex? My theory is that these days we may forget how misogyny and patriarchy affect women’s lives and Lydia story is meant to show/remind us. Like she is overlooked enough to have a whole relationship with a teacher but as soon as James is talking with a girl their dad flips? 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I work in a highschool and cannot tell you how much the thought of a student teacher relationship makes my skin crawl. It's unbelieveable to me that when I was a teen I used to think that (in fiction, not real life!) this stuff was okay! Major Green Flag guys.

Also, I am totally with you guys about the Lydia storyline, it's weird, the timelines dont make sense, and I dont like watching it lol. They tried to kind of save it by having them fall in love online without knowing each other, but once he found out how young she was and her teacher it should have ended. Does not help that he looks WAYYY older than her LMAO I cringe every time. Maybe since age of consent is lower over there its different but I cant hop on board with this ship
