his confusion this episode proves otherwise. I think he said it was high school when he last saw it. Also he didn’t realize that when you become a vampire all former compulsion you experienced wears off, so that’s obviously why Jesse knew to call Caroline.

It was an instinct to save her boyfriend, just like it was for her when she save her best friend.
