No it was definitely Damon’s idea. Damon told Matt to come with him so his life could have purpose. It is implied that it was Damon’s idea.

Amber Augustine

sometimes i forget that nina plays both elena & katherine. she does such a good fucking job playing katherine that it literally slips my mind. i can’t get over how good of an actress she is. the difference in personality, mannerism, and tone is just insane. she’s amazing.

luna

Let's not discredit Matt. It was his idea after all.

Heida

Again, Nina's acting in this episode is brilliant. I was SHOOK when Damon killed Matt! I really believed it because Damon has not been shy about how much he hates him and he should have died after driving off the bridge. Damon is smart when it comes to getting things done but people don't give Matt enough credit when it was his idea in the first place! Once again beating the allegations that he is useless.

Heida

you bring up really really good points. never saw it this way. thanks for the new perspective!!

luna

Really? I felt like Elena and Matt’s relationship was given a lot of screen time, especially in S3. I feel like Bonnie and Elena’s relationship could’ve been utilized more tbh. The two of them kinda just stopped having scenes together after S3

TK

I love Matt and Elena’s relationship. They always have a specific type of intimacy that isn’t around when either of them interact with characters like Caroline, Bonnie, Jeremy, and Tyler.

TK

This is such an interesting and accurate comment. It all makes more sense now, Elijah said Elena's greatest gift is her humanity and her empathy. How she feels deeply for those around her. Makes sense that without that she resorts to hurting people with words. You're right she's not about killing she just lashes out and says things she knows will cut people.

Give peas a chance

This was another one of my favorite episodes.

Heidi Louise

it makes sense that the first emotion elena would focus on is rage for Katherine. she was the reason Jeremy is dead in the first place. Katherine made it her life’s mission to make Elena’s life a living hell. I don’t blame her for trying to have revenge.

Amber Augustine

One thing elena should never do is call on Damon’s bluff because he would 100% do it lmao. He played off killing Matt in such an convincing way. I always get chills when I see Elena’s emotions come back on. Nina’s acting is incredible.

Amber Augustine

“You got a better idea, prom king? Unless you want me to lock you up in there with her, I suggest you shut up. Let the adults handle this.” Damon shutting down Matt quickly had me dying. Matt is offering no real solutions and this is the best plan they got by using Katherine at the moment.

Amber Augustine

I love that damon was able to bring back Elena’s humanity back after turning it off. It was smart of him to use Matt as an emotional trigger. damon knows Elena so well and I’m glad that his plan worked out successfully.

Amber Augustine

I always thought the same, I feel like they try, but we needed more meaningful moments between them if they actually wanted us to feel moments like this

Cassidy

I always felt like none of Elena’s loved ones even gave her a chance before deciding she wouldn’t cope with Jeremy’s death lol. She tried to burn her house down like 5 minutes after realising he was dead, they could’ve given her at least a month before doing something drastic like making her turn off her humanity 😭

Halima

i think that every vampire without humanity is different that's why it's so interesting to see them without it, seeing elena without humanity pretty much confirms that she's not a ripper, she only killed the waitress and that's because she wanted to make a point so the salvatore brothers would leave her alone, meanwhile her failed attempts with caroline and bonnie were more about her being annoyed with care and trying to get rid of bonnie so silas would lose his witch. i've never get why some of the fandom thought she was bad as a vampire, i know she isn't amazing as caroline and i agree that elena is better as human but that doesn't mean she sucks at being a vampire. anyways elena without humanity doesn't really focus in the killing, she focus in hurting everyone psychologically because she knows she can, she's good at reading people and knows exactly what things can hurt them so that's her thing as a vampire with no humanity

Melanie

"not matt's truck" i've never seen someone being that worried about that truck like you guys 😭

Melanie

Great episode! Silas does sound like ghostface, lol. The product placement in this show cracks me up. That whole Caroline/Klaus/Silas sequence was done so well. So glad he came back even as Silas, lol.

Cristy

I wish the writers did more with Elena and Matt’s relationship. She died to save his life and his “death” brought her back when nothing else worked, but outside of that they don’t seem like close friends.
