Selena truly was an amazing soul and what I like about this film is that it showed how pure she was but also how sudden her death was, she was so young but also she was planning to have kids, she was at the top of her career, and then tragedy. She is a big figure not only for the mexican/latino community but Selena was so big in the music world, even Beyonce said she was inspired by Selena growing up. Selena truly would've changed so much, she was so effervescent and kind, like zuff said, never seen such a good soul and like zuff said Fuck Yolanda , she is rumored to be released on parole soon and ITS ON SITE. btw Christina Grimmie was the singer from the voice who was tragically killed by a fan

Love that you guys watched this! Selena was Chicano royalty and the loss of her right before her musical crossover was a tragedy. Selenassss forever ♥️

The entire state of Texas is waiting for Yolanda if she makes parole 2025, it’s onsite.

The child singing was Jennifer Pena and she was a child around 11-12 when singing in the movie the child actress was lip-syncing

I watched this movie in the early 2000s when I was like 8 and had no idea Selena had passed already. It hadn't been that long either since she passed in 95' and the movie was released on VHS in 97'. It literally destroyed me. Also Yalonda is still alive and she's gonna be released soon I think which is so wild to think about

I recommend reading Chris Perez’s book “To Selena, With Love”. I bawled while reading it. Such a heartbreaking story.

This movie is like right of passage in the Hispanic/Mexican community. I remember my mom showing it to me when I was in elementary school and I remember loving the movie so much. Little me thought it was so cool that Selena's mom and I had the same name. Now that I have gotten older, I can't help but cry every time I watch this movie. It is such a happy yet devastating film. This is one of these best biopics in my opinion. They truly did her story justice and showed what a kind and loving person she was! I am glad you guys loved the movie!

It’s never made sense to me how people who commit crimes like murder can ever have the possibility of living freely ever again. I hope her parole gets denied

Selina Gomez was actually named after her

You guys thinking Selena was raised in the 50s had me in stitches. I always remember her death anniversary because she died like 3 months before i was born and my mom always told me about how she was super pregnant when the news broke about her murder and how shocking it was for everyone. Also since Zuff mentioned her, I’m pretty sure Selena Gomez was named after Selena Quintanilla. I think she’s talked about her parents being massive fans and her knowing all about her as a kid growing up

Honestly, if she was smart she should just stay in prison. Being out in the real world is not going to go well for her, not with how loved Selena still is. She's also gained more of a following because of this movie. I know I didn't know her until I saw this. I've heard actually that they had to keep her in solitary confinement often for her own safety from other prisoners. But whether that's true or not, she'll have to just hide wherever she will live.

If you guys haven’t seen any of JLo’s rom coms you should definitely check them out! Maid in Manhattan and Monster-in-Law are my favourites

This film is fantastic! The family was very involved with the making of the movie, they wanted to honor Selena as much as possible. This came out only 2 years after her death, so it was still very fresh in everyone's mind. When people say JLo can't act, they clearly haven't seen this, she did such a good job. She spent a lot of time with the family, in fact she stayed in their house while filming, slept in Selena's bed, watched dozens of home movies and interviews to get her down, most of the clothes she wore in the movie on stage were actually Selena's. She also had to perform everything exactly like Selena, down to every dance move and hair flip. Obviously not everything is portrayed exactly like it happened in real life but they weren't that far off either. The scene with her and Chris in the room when she's talking about getting married was exactly like it was in real life, Chris has said when he watched the scene for the first time it felt like he was reliving it. And she really did do the bungee jump, which caused her to make up her mind and secretly get married to Chris. My favorite fact though is, when you first meet Chris they show a close up of his hands and that's the real Chris playing. And if you notice, when her dad is telling her about Yolanda stealing the money, you can see posters and such in the background and that's the real Selena, they just have it blurred. And I'm pretty sure they do show her for a slight second during the fashion show.
I loved despite not knowing the story, you guys didn't trust Yolanda. She was crazy, obsessed with Selena. She cowardly shot Selena in the back and she fought to make to the lobby, where she was able to tell them who shot her and what room she was in, she was a fighter for such. And there is so much more disturbing facts about the case. I do wish the film showed her being obsessed a bit more but I also understand why they didn't want to showcase her very much. The movie wasn't about her death, but her life.

The songs are sung by Selena not JLo in the movie and her husband wrote a book to Selena with love and it’s a really good read

Yes, they and the actress did a great job of portraying her being untruth worthy. I mean, the guys immediately didn't have a good feeling about her but I do think they could have done more with showing how obsessed she was. Yolanda was creepily obsessed and most likely the reason why she actually killed her, not because of the missing money. I believe she couldn't handle not being in Selena's life, so she took it. Kind of like, if I can't have you no one will sort of way. But it's clear to me the family wanted to have Yolanda in there as little as possible, which I completely understand.

Yolanda is eligible for parole in March 2025, which is wild. She shouldn't be released imo. Great reaction! This movie takes you on a journey - RIP Selena.

Frank Ocean spoiling it for Bryce got me weak 😭😭 Damn! And yes Bryce is talking about Christina Grimmie. She was on The Voice not American Idol. She was killed at her meet and greet by a weirdo that was obsessed with her. That was a tough one because I loved her so much. Ppl are nuts 😩

Her family was and is really protective over the depiction of her death. In truth Yolanda was way nuttier than depicted. And her murder was much more brutal than depicted here (being shot)

The first few songs were a medley she did at her last performance ever so she didn't originally sing those songs! Y'all probably know that now but I haven't made it that far into the reaction 😭
